Very helpful. Am looking at an amazingly finely detailed ornate ring through which the candle passes on a Sheffield Plate candlestick. Wondered how it was made. Looks like this way with annealing in the middle.

Can an impression die be made of STEEL in order to press strong enough into other metals such as aluminum, copper, gold, etc? I have a 20-ton hydraulic press i would use to press. I am trying to find out how to make my own impression dies (without using titanium).
