I'm sure you've figured it out by now but just in case if not, like Bagel said if when you press left on Dpad and it's still showing that you need to go up (soft lock) you can just restart and it'll center you back to the correct spot to continue on from. And at that 2nd lift spot just send it up above you, and then send it down and just as it passes you, jump down on top of it and take it down. Once you get off, Hit left on dpad again and it should be showing you the correct way to go now and you should be good from there.. the next part tho is a bit of a doosey lol, just remain calm
