Writing this about my husband who has been to salem many times. It means alot to him as his mom was what you call a traditional pagan Wiccan. Its tragic til this day that people believe its evil ! Wiccans are one with mother earth 🌎 similar to the native americans.Thank you guys for your compassionate episode❤
Great video. Huge nostalgia for me since I lived in Salem for nearly 10 years. I can't believe that jail is now a residence. It was abandoned when I lived in Salem and it was a creepy creepy place. I can't fathom living in that place now. One weird story: one Halloween I had taken a picture of a guy dressed as Michael Myers standing in front of the house that is next to Charter Street cemetery. It was in the 90's so I developed the film and had it printed. For years there was only one person in the photo. Then one day I looked closer at the photo and there was a second person next to Michael Myers in camouflage hiding in the bushes! This guy never said anything, he didn't move, and for years I didn't even know he was in the photo. It creeps me out thinking about it to this day.
I couldn’t click on this video fast enough. I used to live in Salem, and get there 2x a year with my kids. The Peabody Essex Museum is world class, and I love browsing the Pagan gift stores. The Hawthorne Hotel is the best place to stay and is known for ghosts.
My husband just found out recently after an ancestry search that Susannah Martin is his 6th great grandmother on his mothers side. She is one of the 19 names memorialized on proctors ledge.
I like how Jessica is placed somewhere in many of the shots, in the distance, with little movement from her and appears almost ghostly. Like an apparition. Nice touch! I like it! Just recently discovered this Toober and now I'm subscribed! I'm hooked!
Hi Michael and Jessica :) I really like the respectful way you told the Salem Witch Trial history. We love the spooky part at Halloween but we also need to remember these were real innocent people who were murdered . Thank You once again for a lovely thoughtful walk through Salem's "witch" history . Happy Halloween :)
I’ve taught The Crucible and historical background info on Salem to my high school students for years. Interestingly, the reason you see the victims hung approx a month apart is bc judges made the rounds back then only 1x per month. As you pointed out, Judge Hathorne is buried in Salem. His ancestor, writer Nathaniel Hawthorne, was so ashamed of his past that he changed the spelling of his name. Thanks, Guys. Great job as always. ❤️👏🏻
Me and a friend did a trip to Salem in 2019. Funny thing is we were unaware of the shrine they built at Proctor's Ledge. We came up the hill from behind the Walgreens and actually explored the hanging spot. When you get away from the kitsch of Salem and actually stand on the spot where those poor innocent people were hanged for no good reason it's sobering. So glad you guys tapped into that feeling at the end. Amazing place. We also hit the Rebecca Nurse farm where there's another shrine in the graveyard. One of the victims has a grave there as well. Legend states that the bodies were cut down and tossed in a niche on Proctor's Ledge but that the families of some snuck in and recovered them and buried them privately. Witches were not allowed propper graves.
Wow . I didn’t know the couldn’t be buried . Thank god for friends and family. I guess they would have just left the bodies to rot . That’s horrible. 😢
Your post is amazing. Not only am I a descendant of Rebecca Nurse and her sister Mary Estey, but I visited Proctors Ledge in 2018 and happened to meet a family descended from Quakers who supposedly snuck the bodies out at night to give them a proper Christian burial.
I remember these witch trials from school, reading about them, we had our own in Sweden as well if I remember correctly.... May these poor souls rest in peace! 😥😪
I absolutely love Salem. I feel very comfortable there. Its been years since I have have been there.I miss the beautiful of Salem. Thank you for this sweet people.
This is such a sad historical event. We had things like this too in the U.K. as well ,but witches were burnt or drowned .Very disgusting treatment. Most were innocent people and they lost their lives because someone had a grudge, disliked them, jealousy etc.So many lives lost and sometimes whole families. The worse part the wise women who knew about herbs and acted as midwives were amongst these. So villages and towns lost all that help .These women were so skilled and had been taught from Mother to Daughter for generations. This is when doctors only cure was bloodletting and leeches..So because of loosing women like this others suffered for it too.So sad.I am glad they remember all those who died because they were normal people. It’s sad how witches get labelled with a bad name.Mose are just in tune with the earth and Spirit and are loving caring people .You may even have one living next door. You would never know. The Bad ones(Black witches) ..Mess with things they should not and will live to regret it.These paint a bad picture for all witches .Brilliant video once again and very informative.I did not know that one had been crushed. That must have been awful for him and no doubt drawn out too..Glad I found your Chanel..Love n Light 🥰
It started with the salem witch trials through sheer hysteria on top of the power of sugestion and theres no such thing as black or light "magic" its all about the intent behind it
No accused "witches" were burned in the UK. Massachusetts Bay, as a colony of the UK, went by British law. Heretics were burned, accused "witches" were hanged.
I loved this, thank you for the tour. My daughter made me a sweatshirt for my birthday this year. It’s black with the moon, image of a witch and 1692 below that in smaller print “they missed one”, all in shiny gold. I was born and raised in NH and have always wanted to be in Salem for Halloween, now I live in the Midwest and don’t think I,will ever get there now. Thank you again for your videos. I will be checking out many more.
and everyone had to wear vast and restrictive clothing all while living a non-stop laborious existence, I dont see where they got the time or energy to do pointless things like worrying about "witches."
I am a witch and I made the trip to Salem several years ago. I always wanted to go there to pay homage to the people who were killed (targeted) for being different or for merely being easy targets. I got so much just by standing at the foot of Gallows Hill and going to the witches jail than anything else in Salem. If you go there to tour the area, avoid the big Witch Museum. It's a rip off. Also, I stayed at Best Western Plus - North Shore Hotel in Danvers and saved a lot of money by doing so. The tradeoff is the traffic you have to deal with between the hotel and Salem. Also try to find the time for a ghost tour; pretty cool.
Most places that turn into tourist attractions end up being a huge rip off and i guess thats how businesses thrive off people especially tourists and probably dont get any more info etc that you dont get from doing actual guide tours or by looking around
I visited salem for the same purposes the hotel salem makes things easier and one of the cheaper too. If you go again the witch walk is lead by one of the high priests or priestess of salem they practice the Cornish (english) witchcraft. It gives you a different way of calling the corners to different practices and a witches perspective as well as the history of salem. One of the better tours.
Just another example of people abusing the idea of Religion to further personal interest. Blind faith always leads to terrible abuses to innocent people. Dominance and control, two great evils of human DNA programming, were a huge component as well. May all of the victims RIP.
I love the totally awesome clothes n hats you wear, Jessica, your style is exactly like mine was in the 1970's, when we're were a blend of hippie, goth, n Glam n high fashion, but you are lucky today, cuz no one even bats an eye at that sort of dress, unlike when I was coming up n running the streets n parks n cemeteries n bars n clubs as a teenager. We got great alienation by great scores of the unhip population back then, but we purveyed. I haven't changed my style in all this time n I am 66 yrs old, but I still miss the days when all of us who were innovative dressers were like a great club n always we were accepted by each other no matter where we came from or how old we were!!! It was an awesome time!!! Thanks for continuing on with the most fabulous styles ever !!!
We were just there in late May! Beautiful! The cemetery was closed down for maintenance though, but we found another really old cemetery a few blocks away. I can't wait to go back!
1692 was a busy year...especially through July-September. That's absolutely heartbreaking. I've always enjoyed researching this topic. Giles Corey, I cannot imagine that death. He refused to say...not guilty. You've gotta respect the man for that strong will. That witch was hilarious though and I loved her makeup! What a character. I AM A 🪄🧹 WITCH.
It's sad to know that they died telling the truth and with self respect. The old building on the corner use to be a old jail which I remember to this day very well. Also one of the prison doors is hung up in a laywers office down one of the streets near the bewitched statue is. I love salem and know enough about it
Thankyou guys for the informative, sobering and somewhat disturbing history of the Witch Trials in Salem. I knew of them, and some of the history surrounding them...thanks to your video I now know the true depth and magnitude of the ignorant killings sanctioned by the then Legal system. You would think we as a race would learn from such chapters in history... You are both lovely and genuine folks whose videos I found almost by accident, and I have spent many hours since then (I have a lot of time now I am housebound with chronic illness) 'catching up'. I loved your area 51 video, and the vid you guys did on the Conjuring house kept me thinking until the wee hours of the night (I spend my nights up most of the night due to my illness). Have a fantastic new year Michael and Jessica - please keep doing what you do - I for one now have something to keep my interest up when I can. All the best, Dennis Stratford New Zealand.
You two are incredibly respectful and thoughtful with these videos. My girlfriends and I are planning a trip to Salem next year and will definitely pay our respects at Proctor’s Edge. Thank you for letting us “walk” with you in these adventures!
I've been there once and seeing you two walk through it and visit those sights is truly nostalgic and brings me an erie fondness!! Great vid 👍💥👍💥🪦⚰️📜🧹🧹🧹🧹🧹
This just came through my feed! What great content! Hope you guys visit Salem again soon. Btw~ Rebecca (Towne) Nurse, Elizabeth (Towne) Howe, and Mary (Towne) Eastey were sisters and my 9th great-grandaunts. Their brother Joseph was my 9th great-grandfather. Fortunately their parents were no longer alive to see three of four daughters falsely accused and executed. Rebecca was a 71 yr old grandmother with 9 children.
A good book about the trials and the environment they occurred in is “The Witches” by Stacy Schiff. It is well researched and explores what was behind the trials in the context of the time they occurred.
I visited Salem years ago in late September. I was amazed at how one, small town could be so beautiful and so haunting at the same time. Still one of top favorite places on Earth. 🖤❤️🖤❤️
As a descendant of victims and the son of an Essex County native, the kitchy witchy poo nonsense of current Salem makes a mockery of what happened there in 1692.
When I went to Salem for vacation I stopped at The Witch's Dungeon. They play a small bit of the trial of either Rebecca Nurse or Sarah Proctor. After they condemn her your guide took you to the basement where the dungeon is set up and you got to see what the conditions where like in the dungeon at the time of the trials. Whole families where even kept there even pets. They also have a wooden beam that was actually part of the dungeon.
I last visited Boston and Salem in March 2007 via my US Navy ship when we went on a port visit there. It still looks the same. I been to that witch house too. It has not changed. Glad y’all got to visit!
My aunt was a medium - she would move a ouija board without touching it , she read tea leaves & tried out coffins. many saw her as creepy & strange but she loved everyone & would do anything for anyone. It is horrible to think that this woman would have been tortured & put to death for being evil because she was “Different” she wouldn’t hurt anyone… sadly we haven’t “evolved” much since then either. Hatred over color, religion, etc is rampant & innocent lives are taking by the ugliness of prejudice 😞… thank you so much for sharing!
@@steviesgirlbrenwag People rarely believe in such things until they have a direct experience themselves that they can't explain. The problems is the human DNA programming that seeks to dominate and control for personal interest and survival, we act like animals a lot.
I've been to Salem twice. Once in September and once in October. There was pretty much no one there in September and in October there were SO many people it was insane!!! Awesome visit either way...
It appears that you were following us around. We were here during the nation-wide heat wave in Summer 21. This is one of the saddest places I've ever been to. Especially the hanging site.
This was an amazing interactive tour online. Salem has such a rich history and so many injustices wete done there. Thank you for showing this piece of our history that definitely has impacted the world .
Get well.... It went through my house this week.... Second time and not sure how my daughter's and wife looked like death, but my son and I tested negative both round... Meanwhile I still got mildly sick but never tested positive... Weird
God..I remember watching this film back in highschool that was based off of these cases called "The Crucible". It was horrifying to see then as a teenager, but as a wiccan and practicing witch now as an adult this video gave me all sorts of chills watching this.😢😢😢those poor victims, that were accused and died for nothing.
Another brilliant vlog 👍🤘 would love to go to Salem, although I can't help thinking about the kid floating at the window every time I hear the word Salem 😂❤️
Good evening/afternoon/morning everyone! I just wanted to say how touched I am, and how I cried lightly when you said Sarah Good's name. I'm one of her direct descendants, and have been trying to do more research on her. I found that she was hanged for being sassy and expressive, which still runs in the family actually. She was accused because some people wanted what little land she had from her husband who had passed. Thank you so much for going around and doing this, it really touched my heart. I wish all the wrongly accused people well in heaven. Thank you again.
I greatly appreciate that you highlight that these victims were indeed innocent. Too much of our American history was about acquiring land at any cost, then damning the innocent to a false narrative that is now monetized based purely on lore that is based on fear and bigotry due to their own guilt. This shift of respecting those lost for no reason is special and quite rare. Excellent video, as always!
You two have been on a roll lately. What a fun vacation to be on .. nice mixture of work and play. Great video. So 1692 was the year. Wow. Sad that's how they delt with anything that steered away from the beaten path.
Once again, this time of year you guys pop up with incredible visits. When I was young witches always had a special place in my heart. My guidance as a child from my parents was always Christian based but was always encouraged to be opened minded. My aunt was responsible for the family geology … surprised all of us we were decent of a witch on trial. My daughter and I will make the journey there next year. Finding out where you guys live surprised me. Please do some drive by vintage Hollywood haunts. That is where I live also and do many on my own. It would be lovely to hear what you dig up.
@@alphabarre9096 yeah really. It's a clear representation of the true nature of humans. And I stand by my comment. I have a mind of my own and do not need you to tell me what I SHOULD think. Thanks have a good day.
Your wording is perfect on what towns or places do, immediate erasing. The sheer amount of hanging in a time period is so hard to fathom. Happy Halloween 🎃
Fun fact: the green associated with witch actually came from Wizard of Oz because they thought green looks good onscreen. Before that, red or orange were the common colors for witches.
I never got to go to these historical sites. Thank you for allowing us to go along with you and to see what we would otherwise not be able to see. Your hosting skills are awesome! I also love the 2 of you together. I'm new and will be watching more of what you present.

I live in Rhode Island and have been to Salem a few times. Halloween is the busiest time of year but people recommend you don’t go because people can get really crazy in Salem on Halloween. It’s for safety reasons they recommend people not going. The last time I went to Salem was with my friend and her friend who found out through Ancestry that she’s related to Bridget Bishop. It was funny because when you’re in Salem you see lots of people on the streets doing role playing and people being taken away to court and you can watch mock trials. But a woman role playing as Bridget Bishop came up to us and my friend’s friend wanted to tell her she was her ancestor. I think she said Bridget was a cousin but I could be wrong, it was a while ago.
Our Uncle did our genealogy on my Dad's side and we are related too Rebecca Nurse, and 2 more. One was Goodie I believe. It's on my bucket list too go there

I've walked around Salem 3 different times, but never knew about the "red line" until this video...huh. That would have made my visits easier. But we had the privilege of being some of the first, randomly, to visit proctor's ledge after it's dedication a few years ago. Very nice memorial
This was informative and interesting - thanks for sharing! I first heard about the Salem Witch Trials from the Arthur Miller play "The Crucible" which has always drawn audiences, along with the several film versions made over the years. Thanks again!
The hysteria emanating from witch trials turns people from human to beast. Group hysteria nearly always leads to irrational conclusions. So the people of Salem who were executed simply were in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were truly martyrs. They deserve all our respect. Thanks for the up close and personal account. I still want to go to Salem. Saving my money!!
I've never seen a head stone from the 1600s usually there from the 17s cool thanks for sharing I really would love to go to Salem. And Giles Corey said more weight until he died because he was innocent
I am a direct descendant of Martha Carrier through one of her sons. I am the first female in that ancestry line. It has been a while since I've been to see her marker. Thank you for showing all of them. Most videos I see only show the well known names. I love watching your videos because I am a history buff at heart and love the respect and admiration you both obviously have for the places you visit.
I am related to Martha and Giles Cory. We have a family book and when I learned I was related to them I always loved learning their story. Thank you for showing me them. Its on my wish list to go visit there
Their story is a very sad one. Giles apparently accused his own wife, by telling a priest that she was reading strange books, and he attempted to recant and was tortured to death.
@@MamaMoonsKitchen yes it is very interesting! Although I am a little bothered by Salem's attempt to commercialize the witch trials when there are actual grieving family members walking around.

Going to Salem for a wedding in October 2022 and these suggestions are great! Can’t wait and thanks! 🖤
My husband just found out recently after an ancestry search that Susannah Martin is his 6th great grandmother on his mothers side. She is one of the 19 names memorialized on proctors ledge.
😂😂 another woman said in this comment that they were also related. I don't know why Americans lies.
@@alphabarre9096why would they lie ? Ur a fool
We learned about the trials in school and watched a movie on it. Seeing the grave markers really hit it home.
Wow,cool,my schools never showed or talked about anything cool like this,if they'd had,I'd have showed up more often.
OMG u prb had nightmares after that movie!
The Salem Witch Trials were the only thing that kept my attention in school. Thank you for your travels and informative videos.
I like how Jessica is placed somewhere in many of the shots, in the distance, with little movement from her and appears almost ghostly. Like an apparition. Nice touch! I like it! Just recently discovered this Toober and now I'm subscribed! I'm hooked!
You 2 are just the most perfect soul mates 💗💗💗 thank you for all the great content, you never disappoint 🙂🙂🙂 much love to you both from the UK 🇬🇧
I just love you guys. So respectful and wholesome. Your interactions with Jessica remind me so much of my wife and me. Adorable.
Ugh this area looks sooo beautiful 😻♥️♥️
This is my favorite video of yours. The emotions of it, really got to me.
History is fascinating! Thank you guys for sharing! It was amazing when me and my wife went and its amazing watching this! Thanks guys!
That Bewitched statue was recently vandalized. Someone threw red paint all over it. It was so cool to see you guys in my hometown. Huge fan 👍
True
Salem is your home town?
I M.A W itch
It started with the salem witch trials through sheer hysteria on top of the power of sugestion and theres no such thing as black or light "magic" its all about the intent behind it
No accused "witches" were burned in the UK. Massachusetts Bay, as a colony of the UK, went by British law. Heretics were burned, accused "witches" were hanged.
My sister and I are going to Vermont and Massachusetts in October this year!! We are definitely seeing this and many other historical places -
Thank you for this deeply meaningful respectful historic visit. I will never forget! I just know now they walk in light along with us!
Your intro is so badass it sounds so official. Sounds like it should be on a TV show or something.
You guys are a national treasure! Keep up the grimm work!!
Living back in the 1600's had to be unbelievably hard. The weather was awful and it was tough to grow anything.
and everyone had to wear vast and restrictive clothing all while living a non-stop laborious existence, I dont see where they got the time or energy to do pointless things like worrying about "witches."
And don't forget hundreds of sexually transmitted diseases. Yep the 1600s was tough times.
Hello from Mississippi! I cannot believe I haven't watched your channel yet, so now I'm binge watching every one I can find! love your videos.
I am a witch and I made the trip to Salem several years ago. I always wanted to go there to pay homage to the people who were killed (targeted) for being different or for merely being easy
targets.
I'm a witchfinder general
Stop being fake.
It is great how both of you have found your macabre counterpart, to go explore the darkness within the light of life!
If you guys are still in Salem go into Red's Sandwich shop and ask for my girlfriend Sharon and you can have a breakfast on us. We like your content.
I doubt they are still in Salem, the weather looks warmer than it has been lately around here.
They were back in California before Oct 31 actually
Damn I figured as much. I live on Looney Ave too at Gallows Hill right up the street from Proctors Landing it would have been nice to say hi

Just amazing how much detail and work is involved that you pass along to all of us is greatly appreciated!
I'm originally from CT and i lived in Salem ma for a little over a year. There is lots of great history and sadness in Salem
We were just there in late May! Beautiful! The cemetery was closed down for maintenance though, but we found another really old cemetery a few blocks away. I can't wait to go back!
That would be the Howard Street cemetery. Around the corner from my house.
Wow that's awesome Bless you and your great ..........grandmother what a wonderful connection ❤
I am glad you guys did this video. While the tourist stuff is fun Salem has very dark past that seems to be forgotten now days.

1692.......369 hmmmmm
It's sad to know that they died telling the truth and with self respect. The old building on the corner use to be a old jail which I remember to this day very well. Also one of the prison doors is hung up in a laywers office down one of the streets near the bewitched statue is. I love salem and know enough about it
Thanks for taking us along with you on this amazing adventure
All the best, Dennis

We are related!! Mary is my 9 times great grandmother!!
Awesome! You guys were in my area! I am decsended from John Proctor who was hung during the trials. He was my 8 times great grandfather 😀
A good book about the trials and the environment they occurred in is “The Witches” by Stacy Schiff. It is well researched and explores what was behind the trials in the context of the time they occurred.
Amazing book! yet so heartbreaking 💔 Bernadette
I hope your aunt is doing alright 😔
@@PMIII Thank you! 🤗 Sadly no, she passed on years ago…

We did the play in Middle School
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Also glad you included the Samantha Stevens statue at the beginning too.
9:23 Borah! Thanks for keeping Salem spooky 🎃
The Salem Witch Trials, to me, still is one of the most disturbing historic occurrences. Great video, enjoyed it.
The Communists are still acting in this manner, humanity will soon face a great challenge to overcome these primal crimes.
Well you never seen the worst when Black people back then being hanged for fun for white people taking picture and cutting their penis for FUN .

Hi Michael & Jessica I am so glad you got to visit this historical sight where so many women were accursed of which craft & were burned at the steak 🥩 most were tortured to confess out of great pain 🥺 it was so 😭 that inasent women were put thugh such torture
It's on my bucket list too go there
That intro music is pretty amazing. I’m a vocalist and I found myself harmonizing along.🖤

Thank you for your tasteful and tasteful narrative of the past.
Great job, you 2. Most informative I've seen on this subject. Thanks.
