"the television screen is the retina of the mind's eye. therefore, the television screen is part of the physical structure of the brain. therefore, whatever appears on the television screen emerges as raw experience for those who watch it. therefore, television is reality, and reality is less than television" this is one of my favorite films, no question

The phrase "ahead of its time" is overused, but it undeniably applies to Videodrome.

great thing about him is he leaves people to their own interpretation of the movie. it's really hard to do that

The way I see it, this movie is all about the extreme upside and downside of entertainment. People like Oblivion, believe that something like Television and VHS would be superb at not only communication, but also a way of sharing power with the world and in effect help the world. Whereas Convex sees it as a weapon that needs to be used on his enemies. All Max wanted to do was make a few bucks on providing risque entertainment and he ends up going from Patsy to hero in his own fucked up way.

Was cronenberg talking about Cannibal Holocaust when he mentioned animals being killed? I think that was very much a topic of conversation in Hollywood at the time this was made.

Videodrome would have been a better horror movie had it not had all the gory special effects, re-written it could be about mind control thru Television.
