Fun to watch. I bought one brand new in 1984, back when I was a salesman making way too much money for someone my age and you could write all your business miles off of my taxes and the depreciation credit you got was based on the price I paid for the car! It got soooo expensive to maintain over the years. I finally had to donate it to charity. But owning it and driving it was a blast. My favorite thing was taking it through mountains. Invariably, a Saab Turbo would get on my tail and tailgate me, a situation the 533i LIVED for!. When I got tired of looking at that cheap-ass Saab logo in my mirror, I would drop that 533's 5 speed into second or third and take off. In third gear, I could get it up to 110 mph and still only be cranking 4500 rpm. What REALLY set the 533i apart was the handling. Loved watching Saabs body rolling and crossing the double yellow line as they attempted to give chase. But alas, the poor Saabs always had to throw up the white flag when chasing that Bimmer. Mostly I would see them in the next town where I definitely would slow down for. That car was a cop magnet. Oh and it was also scary as hell to drive in snow. Always filled up the tank and threw two bags of sackrete into the back before a snowstorm.
Nice 533i. I had a gold one with tan leather, automatic. Bought it in 2002 with 250K miles, off of eBay (for $1,500) and in 2010 had it up over 500K miles. So many repairs, upgrades, and maintenance over those eight plus years. Was still running when I sold it. What I miss most is that huge sunroof. Consider the Saab glass sunroof to turn yours into a moonroof, they swap out. And the rear headrests from the 7 series slip right in. 👍 Best regards.
My friend and I are customizing the exact car and color . I would love to pick your brain for certain parts and great knowledge of this vintage style. You do a great job, are you sure your not half bmw too. Lol just kidding please hmu thanks sending you blessings and happiness from Denver,Co "!!
Car looks beautiful. The E28 is the first car I recognized as a BMW when growing up. Interestingly enough, for some weird reason that has been lost to history, Malaysian spec versions of the E28 also had the USDM bumpers. So I grew up thinking that's the default appearance of the E28! And those iconic headrests!
im looking at buying one, 5speed. odo is broken but estimated to be 220k ish. small strip of rust on rear quarter panel at the edge of the wheel well. most front end parts were recently changed, green with tan leather. not the worst interior, nothing like yours though. back seat is pretty clean. going for about 3k would you recommend?
Such a classic car. One of my favorite body styles. Wish I had a 5 series or even 3. Amazing how great that 84 still looks and the interior. How I'd love to have one as a special car to drive to have fun
I had my 1988 M3 and my cousin had his 1988 535is and I swear they were basically even in a drag race and at stability in top speed handling. Nice e28 though !
BIMMER ZEIT kicking myself in the ass everyday when I think back to the day I sold it in 1992 .....hind sight is 20/20 I guess.... but what hurts even more was my NYS plate was M POWER and I turned it in after I sold it .........I know WHAT WERE YOU THINKING BRUH .....? that would be worth $10k alone today on eBay ......like I said 20/20...... plus I was in my 20’s then ...grew up since then now more aware. Currently have a 1989 e30 325i 1983 320i 1975 2002 e10 ....but I’ve owned many others that I wish never sold now thinking back .
@@ClintStrickwood I definitely lucked out on purchasing this for such a reasonable price. It's not common to find one this nice for that little money. More typical to spend $8-$12k for a clean example.
Nathan's DIY Garage you’re right the starter in an M30 or M20 is a real gem of a job. Especially when you’re 16 and it’s your first car with no experience!
I've read about the nightmares people have had on the early m30 starter replacements. Fortunately they made access easier in the B35 like on my e34. I haven't had the liberty of needing to replace the one in my 533i yet. Aside from that I'd argue that m30s are one of the more simple engines to work on.
Awesome car, love it. Had a e23 with the aforementioned engine. Regret I sold it and regret it was auto .. PS. Presenter looks and sounds like Tyler Hoover & Doug Demuro offspring (like Jaden Smith version :/). Too many guys rolling the same script at YouT. He needs to find his own style and originality. Car gets a thumbs up!!! ..but present, a fat thumbs down.. Change the copycat script and maybe next time I’ll watch you again.. Ciau.
Back then BMW wasn't perceived as a luxury car but merely a pricey quality car - similar to Volvo and Saab (sorry VW, you were garbage). The two 5 Series that followed, mainly the E39, were far more stylish and comparable to Jaguar and Mercedes, character-wise, than this generation 5 Series. Then again, the valve cover of the E39 is indeed made of plastic and it breaks with the years.

Antonio Porras wow 500k! Amazing. Thank you for those tips, will do!
My parent had a 533i and the recirculating ball steering system is tremendous.
With over 200k miles on it, it looks very good inside and out. The m30 sounds amazing! I had an e34 535iA.
I had a ‘84 alpine white 533i 5-speed with the cardinal red leather interior and two-tone gold and silver BBS sport rims. Was such a fun car to drive.
The OBC was standard on the 533i. The only option was a LSD. The OBC is actually pretty simple to use.
The automatic transmission was another option
@@AnthonyJSollitto Yep, which his car has - so I didn't say that. 1983 was a 3-spd, 1984 was the 4.
Maybe one of the best car ever made
stefan koles agree 100%!
0:01 the way you said "this" at the start of the video reminds me of doug demuro
hey George, I said it in homage to Doug

Kon Wai Luen thanks man! Wow I wouldn’t have guessed, thanks for sharing that bumper fact! Are there many classics in your country?
Climate in our country is harsh. Many of the E28s and E34s have disintegrated under our hot and humid weather.
Kon Wai Luen too bad. They rust away here too though

Love your e28! Such a gem in today's plastic car world!
nice review as always! this E28 has been beautifully kept, definitely one of the cleanest.
Leon L probably the nicest car I’ve ever purchased! Sight unseen, so when it arrived here I couldn’t believe how clean it was

V B very interesting, do you still have the e30 m3? Hope so!

You sounded like Doug Demuro 😆
I’m still looking for one in Aust ,with cov 19 it’s hard to travel to purchase them in other Aust states ,very nice E28
What would one like this sell for in Aust...ralia? Austria?
Owned 28 BMW from 1984 .First BMW from Fields. 5min awayJohn Hughes 16 Candles movie. 533/535 suck ass with Auto Trans?Manual run with 911/vette.
Great vid as always! And I loved how you put more humor into this video!! :)
May I ask what you paid for this model? Here in Germany these have gotten expensive! I have paid 9500€ for my 528i with little to no interior options.
I paid $3500 USD plus $1500 USD shipping from Oregon to Connecticut. Agreed value from insurance company currently $12,000 USD.
@@BIMMERZEITT Wish we had these prices over here haha. Thanks for the quick reply!

Anti-lock brakes?
Big B no ABS on this model I believe it was introduced in either 1985 or 1986!
Man those m30 engines are a pain to work on, had a old Bavaria I had to remove the starter , almost impossible...

Phil P thanks Phil, I love this color combo, nothing better than an 80’s pacific blue
awesome video
Mohammed Hussam thanks mo!
Mmmm interesting….🤔
Someone really took care of that car, and drove it too!
Хорошо сохранилась эта Е28 , но мне конечно больше по душе е30 :) хоть и места в ней меньше в салоне...

evaldas grig lol thanks, valid points but maybe a little harsh. Doug DeMuro is mentioned in the end, just experimenting with presentation styles.
Hey can you contact me please I need some help with some stuff dealing with my e39
