Some proctors do seem to prefer the chat box. I've also interacted with ProctorU stff who seem to prefer to do everything by voice. Try either approach to see which one works best, or ask your proctor what they prefer. :)
Kazi Sayeeda, once you register with proctor u, there will be step by step instructions as well as the option to test your system. The chat box I believe is an add on to your browser. You will be instructed don’t worry.
Lol. Joke. Because once test started you can not go back to the chat box and there is no way you can get out of the test screen. Because they controls your computer. Or maybe the technician only helped you but not me and others as well. Wow. I felt helpless whole time and just lost my money after waste my time and nervous for 7 hours.

I recently gave the home edition test and it was the worst experience ever. My test lasted approximately seven hours. I was flushed by the end of it with just a ten-minute break in between. There were mic problems when the test started (one hour went in fixing that) and again after the break when I was in between my speaking section. I tried to record my response and it failed twice. The troubleshoot went on for 2 hours guys. It was so frustrating to just sit there and keep recording my response to test if the problem had been fixed. I didn't want to drink water for obvious reasons. Although I got good scores overall in all the sections, coincidentally my score in the speaking section is the lowest. I heard the question for the speaking section after which there was 2-hour troubleshooting. In that period I could have written a good response but I chose not to do that as it would be cheating. I was tired and exhausted by the time the writing section began and just wanted to get it over with.
I took my on monday, july 6 , I was good. I just have some problem with connection but it was less than 4 hours. I am still expecting my result up to now
For some technical difficulties I couldn't do my test. ProctorU told me that I could reschedule for another day. And now nobody replies to my emails! No money no test! Be very careful!
the same thing happened to me, the ETS browser did not work on the day of the test I was really disappointed as I prepared so hard for it, so I had to reschedule it, it took a month, even more time to solve the issue, now I'll be able to take the exam within a month, I will suggest you call ETS and insist that it was I did, they gave me a voucher so I did not have to pay for the test again, then you will be able to reschedule the test, Proctor U will help with that. As I said, you should call them insisting and the problem will be solved, be patient.
I took a test today and I had problems with connection twice. That is why I did not properly finish my writing. In general, it is good but it is really stressful too. Especially because you do not know what can happen with your computer.
I was thinking the same, there are a lot of inconveniences that people may get while taking the exam like that kind of issues. I would prefer to wait until we are able to take the exam out again

@@av9706 , potential connection problems are one disadvantage of the home based TOEFL. I can tell you that most students are able to take the TOEFL Home Edition without serious problems. But as Anna mentioned above, sometimes problems can arise. So sorry you had that experience, Anna!
@@MagooshTOEFL My wifi speed is 30.mbps, and I had pretty fast computer actually for gaming. I did not expect there would be 7 hours of delay because of the technical issue as they said, and ended up could not take my exam. I would not blame ETS, but I ProcterU. ETS should do better for sake all these poor kids who has desire but not much money to pay for this for nothing.

You can also directly contact them through the contact number here: www.ets.org/toefl/contact . If you call them, I recommend asking to speak to a test-taker advocate. The advocates are particularly interested in knowing if students are happy or not. I relayed my concerns to a test-taker advocate when I was in direct contact with ETS.
Please everyone be careful with taking the TOEFL Home Edition. I have been waiting for the scores for almost a month and finally I received an e-mail from ETS explaining that my exam could not be scored due to sound problems in the speaking section. I properly passed the sound test previous to the speaking section and ProctorU stated that my equipment worked well. In addition, the costumer support service has been "poor" to say in it in good words. Think about it twice before taking it!
As I mentioned before, Ignasi, if you haven't gotten refund, definitely talk with a test-taker advocate in situations like this. You can ask for an advocate when you call TOEFL customer service. I'm sorry you had this experience! :(

I don’t know if anyone needs to hear this but I feel it's right to say, so that no one else has to go through what happened to me. I took the TOEFL test a few days ago and it was one of the worst experiences I had to undergo. My screen froze during the writing section and I couldn’t scroll down to read the remaining passage during the integrated part. I called for the proctor for help and she IGNORED me for the better part of 50 minutes until the end of the entire test. The spectacle didn’t end there, as the proctor TALKED OUT LOUD on full volume when I had to listen to what I had to speak on during the speaking section. She continued talking through the speakers for more than a minute, during all the listening (even if she lied to the institution saying that she talked just to ask to lower the camera, that requires 3 seconds). I was so nervous and terrified as the sheer horror of speaking on something I could NOT hear. I had to compose myself and I did my best to speak as this joke of an “test” came to an end. This is incompetence and a scam. I immediately filed a complaint and sent them an email to open an investigation. It’s evident that “investigation” didn’t happen as ETS chose to not do their job like their LIAR of a proctor and simply took her word for it. My scores will stand and I was told I will not be allowed to retake the test for free. They chose NOT to review my RECORDED test. Choosing TOEFL was definitely one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made in my life. They’re morally bankrupt and shamelessly corrupt. Don’t let them mess with your future. I’ve said my piece, make of that what you will. And add that to all the complaints of other type you can find on this page (for example not receiving the scores in time).

I have scheduled my exam few days back and on the day of exam I faced some technical issues which couldn't even fixed by the Technical person or Proctor. The problem was with the ETS Test Browser only as they have completed and cleared my system check. Then they have rescheduled my exam but I am not sure whether the same problem will occur again or not. I am a bit confused and concerned now.... One thing I realized when I had to deal with this is that the ProctorU staff are not trained on the ETS software. If there is a technical problem with the test software, they won't be able to solve it, and you'll need to call ETS itself. Right now, ETS has been kind of overhwlemed with emails about the TOEFL Home Edition. As a result, the best way to get an immediate response is to actually call ETS. You can find your local ETS customer service number here: www.ets.org/toefl/contact . When you call, ask to speak to a test-taker advocate. Right now, the advocate team is the team that is most able to help you resolve technical issues with the TOEFL Home Edition software. When I had ETS Browser problems, the test-taker advocate I spoke to was able to fix the problems for me.
This happen to me; once the proctoru staff enter ed the login and password of the exam; a window appeared in ETS browser said your exam will be terminated for a security reason
I COULDN'T TAKE THE TOEFL HOME EDITION even though I checked all the requirements. ON THE TEST DAY, my microphone was working perfectly until they launched the ETS test page. I spent MORE THAN THREE HOURS trying to talk to someone. In the end, they said I would need to find another computer - which I did not have at that moment - and to send an email to ETS. It has been A WEEK now, and they promise to reply in two business days... I NEED to RESCHEDULE my test or have my MONEY BACK! PLEASE REPLY! From my experience, there is no guarantee you will be able to take the test even though your PC meets all the requirements!!!

Now I have to say that when I examine your language skills, I see that you think in the language, have totally taken it and subconsciously use it. I would love to get to that point. My English meets the standards of C1 with a tendency towards C2. To gain more fluidity and confidence with the language I would very much like to ask for your advice. Always wonderful to hear from a student who is thinking so carefully about how to improve their English. :) For the TOEFL itself, it's best to really focus on TOEFL-specific English. You can learn the structure of each section and task, and do well in it even if your non-TOEFL fluency isn't quite as good. But general English fluency will also help you onthe TOEFL and in life. To give some broad advice, find ways to use English that interest you-- discussing your interests in English on social media is one good way. You could also watch TV or movies that you enjoy in English, join online English conversation groups, read English language articles you find interesting, and so on. Motivation and interest is as important as getting in regular practice.
As my laptop has only one port, I plugged in my external microphone in it. But when I do it, I'm not able to listen the audio prompt in test from my internal speakers. What should I do? How can I resolve my problem?
You should be able to change your settings so that audio goes in through the external mic and out through your internal speakers. You can also leave your microphone unplugged if you aren't using it. Or you can get a splitter to turn your single port into multiple ports!
I do not recommend at home test. I had so many problems during the test and even before it started. I waited 1 hr before the test actually started because there was nobody to assist me. Imagine scoring a 15 in one section and a 28 in another. The proctor wasted so much of my time asking what is on my lap, did not pause my test while I was asking for their help. I lost an entire lecture of listening and had to guess it on my own. It feels like you are on your own. Now I have to give the test again in test center in this situation despite the risk.
Please clarify the whiteboard/transparency paper--can several sheets be used during the test, or does the candidate have to keep erasing (and showing this action) throughout the course of the test?
You don't have to show the action of erasing until the very end of the test. But you may need to erase as you go during the test nonetheless. The official rules state you should only have have one sheet of paper or one whiteboard for note-taking. I've heard of some proctors allowing more than one sheet, but you can't count on that. You can write on both sides of your sheer, though. :)
Right now, on the official page for the Home Edition, ETS says this version of the TOEFL will remain available until the end of September. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they extend it, based on how the pandemic is going. There's no guarantee you can take the TOEFL Home Edition after September 30, though, and no way to book after that date.
@@manelziadi5987 they should come to you automatically in an email. The email will prompt you to log in to your ETS account, where you can view your scores.

I still don't understand how do we get the scores now that the authorized centers are closed, do we get them by e-mail? or how does it work? No, pls do not take home edition test for toefl. It will take way much more time than you expect. Beleive me. There are always technique issue come s up somehow and you will stuck n your desk at least 3,4 hours to make them fix it. And after 4 hours you will be tired, exhausted, and frustrated, so you can not concentrate your test. And once you start your test, then do not hope there will be someone will help you during the time. No one help you, and somtimes they will just end your test session for no reason and without notice. So you will lose your money. 225$ is a lot of money. Do not beleive, there are plenty of people put comment that theu got good score. Do not beleive that. They all proctor U`s ads to attract people to get home edition test which is bring money to the procter U. Just take your test at the test center. It will be save your time and nervous.
@@helenfuf5028 No. I shut down my computer because there were no way to get out of the test which was completely wrong. So after that I turned on back and called procter U to complain and ETS. Procter U did not want to take their fault, so I could rescheduled barely which was better than to be failed unfairly. Afte that I called ETS again and they did not wan to switch my home edition to test center, instead they offer me to canxel appt. So I cancelled which I lose 50% of my money for nothing. I hate them and I wont take a toefl again. IELTS can be good for my school.

Your browser should respond in some way, even before test day. Once it's installed, if you click it, it should open and prompt you for a username and password. (This username and password will be entered for you by your proctor on test day.) If the browser isn't responding at all, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling it, or trying it on a different device. If that doesn't work, call ETS and politely, firmly ask to be connected to either someone from tech support or to a test-taker advocate. Only ETS can troubleshoot the ETS broswer; ProctorU's employees administer the test, but don't have access to the software, or extensive training in it. That said, I suspect that an uninstall/reinstall or change of device will fix things. :) If you can, let me know how it works out!
MagooshTOEFL Hi dear, I have an issue pertaining ETS browser, when I record my voice at the beginning during the check screen for 60sec my voice gets breaking up in the last 30sec and it is not clear when I play it again. I talked with proctoru help desk staff but he couldn’t help me. Just advised me to restart the computer or replace the pc. Now I tried it on 3 laptops and it is still the same problem. What can I do please to solve it out and my teat is after two days. Thank you
Also, how much time in advance should the candidate start to log into the system before the test begins; in order to set up the proctor, check connections, etc.?
I recommend giving yourself about 30 minutes before your start time to do this. You'll likely need less than the full half hour, but on especially busy days at ProctorU, there can be "hold" periods where you're waiting to hear from the proctor. The good news is that if the hold periods cause you to start your test late, you're still allowed to take the exam. But in that case, you may finish later than you had originally planned
You can erase your notes for extra space. I recommend against taking more than one piece of paper, though. While some proctors have been known to allow it, most proctors will not let you do that.
@@adityag3563 , short interruptions shouldn't cause the test to fail. But longer interruptions might cause the test to shut down. In that case, you'd need to rescedule and retake the exam. Hope this helps!

@@user-xi1to4ph6s once you're back in from break, the Speaking section starts immediately. So there wouldn't likely be enough time to write the templates right there. However, if you have the templates well memorized, you could write them before each task, during the note-taking period, as you progress through the Speaking section.

Can I save my seat on Toefl HOME EDITION and do it in JULY?Like, can I pay for the test this month and only do it next month or the schedule and the actual test are only available until the end of this month? I am from Taiwan but currently live in the mainland of China. Am I still eligible to take the special home edition? I have my account address set in Taiwan because that's my main address, but I don't live there for now. Will they find out that I will be taking my test in the mainland and cancel my test? I want to try out the home edition because it seems like I am not allowed to take TOEFL in the mainland for some reason, and I don't want to fly back to Taiwan again just for the test.
Interesting question, Tzu-Yu Weng! The TOEFL Home Edition is still unavailable in mainland China, but eligibility is based on where your home address is. This means that-- in theory, at least-- if you have a Taiwanese home address and use it in your TOEFL account, you could still take the Home version of the test. I'm not sure how that works in practice, but I would say it's worth trying to register if you have a Taiwanese address.

That should be acceptable. You may not even need to show your ears. ETS makes an exception for people who need to wear head coverings for religious reasons.
The proctor will contact you through a small piece of software called a "chat applet." Before test day, I recommend logging in to ProctorU, getting on live chat, and asking them for the chat applet donwload link in advance. But you can also receive that link when you launch your exam on test day. Once the proctor is texting you through the applet chat window, they will also connect to your computer by voice chat.
As I am from the remotest areas of sub-Saharan Africa where the loss of internet connection and electric power are just common, I adjusted to take the test in a data center having a power saver for hours. Is it allowed to take in such a room? Please let me know that.
You are allowed to take the test in such a room, provided that you are alone with no people immediately nearby, and provided there are no prohibited devices on or immediately near your desk.
If you have an external camera, you should be able to physically turn it and point it to each side of your room. If the camera is built into your monitor, turning the whole monitor around is hopefully an option. If the camera and monitor are both fixed, however, I recommend buying an external USB camera for the purpsoes of the test.
I am the only one who consider the experience a HELL???? 5 different proctors, interrupting without pausing the exam and without explanation, I have half of my exam undone because of this. It is really frustrating and sad, I prepared and I put a lot of effort in order to afford the exam

The short answer is "yes." Most (but not all) Canadian universities accept the TOEFL Home Edition, and if your university accepts it, then immigration will give you a visa. Your proctor provides the ETS browser login to you on test day. However, before test day, you'll want to log in to your ProctorU account. Then click the live chat window in the bottom right part of the screen. Ask the live chat agent for the "chat applet download link." On test day, click that link, and you will download a chat program that will immediately open and connect you with a proctor. (The connection to the proctor itself is not immediate. It can take a few minutes, and in rare instances, it can take up to around 20 minutes-- wait times are normally short, though. :) )
After having scheduled your exam you can find a countdown in your ProctorU account. As soon as this countdown is zero, you can click on a button next to the countdown to start your exam. Then, you have to complete several steps such as showing your ID, taking a photo of you and reading through some stuff and confirming that you understood all these terms and regulations. After you completed these steps you can download this chat-function which connects you to a proctor (or a technician in case there are some problems). After my technical issues were solved by several technicians, the proctor started to talk to me. He wanted me to show all four walls of the rooms (and the laptop itself with a mirror) and then he entered the exam ID and password for me. And the exam started. By the way, unlike the person in the video, the proctor didn’t ask me to show him the room again after the break and also, I didn’t need to show him everything in the room (e.g. he wasn’t interested in what is under my table). So after the break, he just entered my exam ID and password again and the exam continued. 😉
@Theresa , you do need the chat applet link. Unfortunately, ProctorU doesn't make the instructions for this very clear in advance. Fortunately, if you ask a ProctorU chat assistant for this link, you can easily get it. :)
I do not recommend to take this test. Almost 2 month still no scores issued. Noone answers the emails, no clear explanation about the reasons of delay. Noone taking care about the problem. No help , no assistance. Money thrown away. Who else haven't recieved their scores yet?

Lol. Joke. Because once test started you can not go back to the chat box and there is no way you can get out of the test screen. Because they controls your computer. I recently gave the home edition test and it was the worst experience ever. My test lasted approximately seven hours. I was flushed by the end of it with just a ten-minute break in between. There were mic problems when the test started (one hour went in fixing that) and again after the break when I was in between my speaking section. I tried to record my response and it failed twice. The troubleshoot went on for 2 hours guys. It was so frustrating to just sit there and keep recording my response to test if the problem had been fixed. I didn't want to drink water for obvious reasons. Although I got good scores overall in all the sections, coincidentally my score in the speaking section is the lowest. I heard the question for the speaking section after which there was 2-hour troubleshooting. In that period I could have written a good response but I chose not to do that as it would be cheating. I was tired and exhausted by the time the writing section began and just wanted to get it over with.
I took my on monday, july 6 , I was good. I just have some problem with connection but it was less than 4 hours. I am still expecting my result up to now
For some technical difficulties I couldn't do my test. ProctorU told me that I could reschedule for another day. And now nobody replies to my emails! No money no test! Be very careful!
the same thing happened to me, the ETS browser did not work on the day of the test I was really disappointed as I prepared so hard for it, so I had to reschedule it, it took a month, even more time to solve the issue, now I'll be able to take the exam within a month, I will suggest you call ETS and insist that it was I did, they gave me a voucher so I did not have to pay for the test again, then you will be able to reschedule the test, Proctor U will help with that. As I said, you should call them insisting and the problem will be solved, be patient.

I took a test today and I had problems with connection twice. That is why I did not properly finish my writing. In general, it is good but it is really stressful too. Especially because you do not know what can happen with your computer.
I was thinking the same, there are a lot of inconveniences that people may get while taking the exam like that kind of issues. I would prefer to wait until we are able to take the exam out again
I have to take it at the end of May and I'm very stressed because I have read a lot of different comments. The main problem is the connection apparently
@@av9706 , potential connection problems are one disadvantage of the home based TOEFL. I can tell you that most students are able to take the TOEFL Home Edition without serious problems. But as Anna mentioned above, sometimes problems can arise. So sorry you had that experience, Anna!

@@MagooshTOEFL My wifi speed is 30.mbps, and I had pretty fast computer actually for gaming. I did not expect there would be 7 hours of delay because of the technical issue as they said, and ended up could not take my exam. I would not blame ETS, but I ProcterU. ETS should do better for sake all these poor kids who has desire but not much money to pay for this for nothing.

I have already communicated this to ETS myself. (This is David Recine, the Magoosh TOEFL Expert who took the TOEFKL Home Edition: ruclips.net/video/10VfO45EDgQ/видео.html ). You can also directly contact them through the contact number here: www.ets.org/toefl/contact . If you call them, I recommend asking to speak to a test-taker advocate. The advocates are particularly interested in knowing if students are happy or not. I relayed my concerns to a test-taker advocate when I was in direct contact with ETS.

Please everyone be careful with taking the TOEFL Home Edition. I have been waiting for the scores for almost a month and finally I received an e-mail from ETS explaining that my exam could not be scored due to sound problems in the speaking section. I properly passed the sound test previous to the speaking section and ProctorU stated that my equipment worked well. In addition, the costumer support service has been "poor" to say in it in good words. Think about it twice before taking it!
As I mentioned before, Ignasi, if you haven't gotten refund, definitely talk with a test-taker advocate in situations like this. You can ask for an advocate when you call TOEFL customer service. I'm sorry you had this experience! :(

I don’t know if anyone needs to hear this but I feel it's right to say, so that no one else has to go through what happened to me.
I took the TOEFL test a few days ago and it was one of the worst experiences I had to undergo. My screen froze during the writing section and I couldn’t scroll down to read the remaining passage during the integrated part. I called for the proctor for help and she IGNORED me for the better part of 50 minutes until the end of the entire test. The spectacle didn’t end there, as the proctor TALKED OUT LOUD on full volume when I had to listen to what I had to speak on during the speaking section. She continued talking through the speakers for more than a minute, during all the listening (even if she lied to the institution saying that she talked just to ask to lower the camera, that requires 3 seconds). I was so nervous and terrified as the sheer horror of speaking on something I could NOT hear. I had to compose myself and I did my best to speak as this joke of an “test” came to an end. This is incompetence and a scam.
I immediately filed a complaint and sent them an email to open an investigation. It’s evident that “investigation” didn’t happen as ETS chose to not do their job like their LIAR of a proctor and simply took her word for it. My scores will stand and I was told I will not be allowed to retake the test for free. They chose NOT to review my RECORDED test.
Choosing TOEFL was definitely one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made in my life. They’re morally bankrupt and shamelessly corrupt. Don’t let them mess with your future. I’ve said my piece, make of that what you will. And add that to all the complaints of other type you can find on this page (for example not receiving the scores in time).
That is exactly what I felt yesterday. The worst expeirence in my life.

I have scheduled my exam few days back and on the day of exam I faced some technical issues which couldn't even fixed by the Technical person or Proctor. The problem was with the ETS Test Browser only as they have completed and cleared my system check. Then they have rescheduled my exam but I am not sure whether the same problem will occur again or not. I am a bit confused and concerned now.... If anyone has faced the same problem then please let me know.

One thing I realized when I had to deal with this is that the ProctorU staff are not trained on the ETS software. If there is a technical problem with the test software, they won't be able to solve it, and you'll need to call ETS itself. Right now, ETS has been kind of overhwlemed with emails about the TOEFL Home Edition. As a result, the best way to get an immediate response is to actually call ETS. You can find your local ETS customer service number here: www.ets.org/toefl/contact . When you call, ask to speak to a test-taker advocate. Right now, the advocate team is the team that is most able to help you resolve technical issues with the TOEFL Home Edition software. When I had ETS Browser problems, the test-taker advocate I spoke to was able to fix the problems for me.

This happen to me; once the proctoru staff enter ed the login and password of the exam; a window appeared in ETS browser said your exam will be terminated for a security reason
I COULDN'T TAKE THE TOEFL HOME EDITION even though I checked all the requirements. ON THE TEST DAY, my microphone was working perfectly until they launched the ETS test page. I spent MORE THAN THREE HOURS trying to talk to someone. In the end, they said I would need to find another computer - which I did not have at that moment - and to send an email to ETS. It has been A WEEK now, and they promise to reply in two business days... I NEED to RESCHEDULE my test or have my MONEY BACK! PLEASE REPLY!
From my experience, there is no guarantee you will be able to take the test even though your PC meets all the requirements!!!

Brief Internet outages should be fine. I've heard from students who had slightly spotty Internet and were able to take the test.

I would generally consider my English not to be very bad. I study the language and have been studying at a boarding school for a certain time. Now I have to say that when I examine your language skills, I see that you think in the language, have totally taken it and subconsciously use it. I would love to get to that point. My English meets the standards of C1 with a tendency towards C2. To gain more fluidity and confidence with the language I would very much like to ask for your advice. Always wonderful to hear from a student who is thinking so carefully about how to improve their English. :) For the TOEFL itself, it's best to really focus on TOEFL-specific English. You can learn the structure of each section and task, and do well in it even if your non-TOEFL fluency isn't quite as good.
But general English fluency will also help you onthe TOEFL and in life. To give some broad advice, find ways to use English that interest you-- discussing your interests in English on social media is one good way. You could also watch TV or movies that you enjoy in English, join online English conversation groups, read English language articles you find interesting, and so on. Motivation and interest is as important as getting in regular practice.

As my laptop has only one port, I plugged in my external microphone in it. But when I do it, I'm not able to listen the audio prompt in test from my internal speakers. What should I do? How can I resolve my problem?
You should be able to change your settings so that audio goes in through the external mic and out through your internal speakers. You can also leave your microphone unplugged if you aren't using it. Or you can get a splitter to turn your single port into multiple ports!
I do not recommend at home test. I had so many problems during the test and even before it started. I waited 1 hr before the test actually started because there was nobody to assist me. Imagine scoring a 15 in one section and a 28 in another. The proctor wasted so much of my time asking what is on my lap, did not pause my test while I was asking for their help. I lost an entire lecture of listening and had to guess it on my own. It feels like you are on your own. Now I have to give the test again in test center in this situation despite the risk.

Please clarify the whiteboard/transparency paper--can several sheets be used during the test, or does the candidate have to keep erasing (and showing this action) throughout the course of the test?
You don't have to show the action of erasing until the very end of the test. But you may need to erase as you go during the test nonetheless. The official rules state you should only have have one sheet of paper or one whiteboard for note-taking. I've heard of some proctors allowing more than one sheet, but you can't count on that. You can write on both sides of your sheer, though. :)

Right now, on the official page for the Home Edition, ETS says this version of the TOEFL will remain available until the end of September. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they extend it, based on how the pandemic is going. There's no guarantee you can take the TOEFL Home Edition after September 30, though, and no way to book after that date.
And as far as the results are concerned I got mine in about 7 days.

No, pls do not take home edition test for toefl. It will take way much more time than you expect. Beleive me. There are always technique issue come s up somehow and you will stuck n your desk at least 3,4 hours to make them fix it. And after 4 hours you will be tired, exhausted, and frustrated, so you can not concentrate your test. And once you start your test, then do not hope there will be someone will help you during the time. No one help you, and somtimes they will just end your test session for no reason and without notice. So you will lose your money. 225$ is a lot of money. Do not beleive, there are plenty of people put comment that theu got good score. Do not beleive that. They all proctor U`s ads to attract people to get home edition test which is bring money to the procter U. Just take your test at the test center. It will be save your time and nervous.

@@helenfuf5028 No. I shut down my computer because there were no way to get out of the test which was completely wrong. So after that I turned on back and called procter U to complain and ETS. Procter U did not want to take their fault, so I could rescheduled barely which was better than to be failed unfairly. Afte that I called ETS again and they did not wan to switch my home edition to test center, instead they offer me to canxel appt. So I cancelled which I lose 50% of my money for nothing. I hate them and I wont take a toefl again. IELTS can be good for my school.

Your browser should respond in some way, even before test day. Once it's installed, if you click it, it should open and prompt you for a username and password. (This username and password will be entered for you by your proctor on test day.) If the browser isn't responding at all, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling it, or trying it on a different device. If that doesn't work, call ETS and politely, firmly ask to be connected to either someone from tech support or to a test-taker advocate. Only ETS can troubleshoot the ETS broswer; ProctorU's employees administer the test, but don't have access to the software, or extensive training in it. That said, I suspect that an uninstall/reinstall or change of device will fix things. :) If you can, let me know how it works out!

I have an issue pertaining ETS browser, when I record my voice at the beginning during the check screen for 60sec my voice gets breaking up in the last 30sec and it is not clear when I play it again. I talked with proctoru help desk staff but he couldn’t help me. Just advised me to restart the computer or replace the pc. Now I tried it on 3 laptops and it is still the same problem. Also, how much time in advance should the candidate start to log into the system before the test begins; in order to set up the proctor, check connections, etc.?
I recommend giving yourself about 30 minutes before your start time to do this. You'll likely need less than the full half hour, but on especially busy days at ProctorU, there can be "hold" periods where you're waiting to hear from the proctor. The good news is that if the hold periods cause you to start your test late, you're still allowed to take the exam. But in that case, you may finish later than you had originally planned
Can I just take one piece of paper in a plastic sleeve or several ones? And if not, can I erase my notes during the exam for more space? Thanks!
You can erase your notes for extra space. I recommend against taking more than one piece of paper, though. While some proctors have been known to allow it, most proctors will not let you do that.

It's a risk, as the proctor definitely could make you erase them and start fresh. You can always try though :)

However, if you have the templates well memorized, you could write them before each task, during the note-taking period, as you progress through the Speaking section.

You can't use any kind of earpiece, although other types of external speakers are acceptable.

I am from Taiwan but currently live in the mainland of China. Am I still eligible to take the special home edition? I have my account address set in Taiwan because that's my main address, but I don't live there for now. Will they find out that I will be taking my test in the mainland and cancel my test? I want to try out the home edition because it seems like I am not allowed to take TOEFL in the mainland for some reason, and I don't want to fly back to Taiwan again just for the test.
Interesting question, Tzu-Yu Weng! The TOEFL Home Edition is still unavailable in mainland China, but eligibility is based on where your home address is. This means that-- in theory, at least-- if you have a Taiwanese home address and use it in your TOEFL account, you could still take the Home version of the test. I'm not sure how that works in practice, but I would say it's worth trying to register if you have a Taiwanese address.

That should be acceptable. You may not even need to show your ears. ETS makes an exception for people who need to wear head coverings for religious reasons.
During the setup time, will the proctor call me on the phone? What if the phone is not around me?
The proctor will contact you through a small piece of software called a "chat applet." Before test day, I recommend logging in to ProctorU, getting on live chat, and asking them for the chat applet donwload link in advance. But you can also receive that link when you launch your exam on test day. Once the proctor is texting you through the applet chat window, they will also connect to your computer by voice chat.

As I am from the remotest areas of sub-Saharan Africa where the loss of internet connection and electric power are just common, I adjusted to take the test in a data center having a power saver for hours. Is it allowed to take in such a room? Please let me know that.
You are allowed to take the test in such a room, provided that you are alone with no people immediately nearby, and provided there are no prohibited devices on or immediately near your desk.

If you have an external camera, you should be able to physically turn it and point it to each side of your room. If the camera is built into your monitor, turning the whole monitor around is hopefully an option. If the camera and monitor are both fixed, however, I recommend buying an external USB camera for the purpsoes of the test.
I am the only one who consider the experience a HELL???? 5 different proctors, interrupting without pausing the exam and without explanation, I have half of my exam undone because of this. It is really frustrating and sad, I prepared and I put a lot of effort in order to afford the exam

The short answer is "yes." Most (but not all) Canadian universities accept the TOEFL Home Edition, and if your university accepts it, then immigration will give you a visa. Can you use headphones/Bluetooth headphones for the test?
Unfortunately, no. No headsets of any sort are allowed.
Is using portable speaker also not allowed? The quality of my laptop's speaker is not good enough.

@@user-xi1to4ph6s the best thing to do is try the TOEFL Home Edition equipment check-- this is an automatic tool to test your Internet connectivity and make sure it's steady and strong enough for TOEFL. You could try it several times to make sure. The system check page is here: test-it-out.proctoru.com/ . Also, if your Internet connection cuts out only very briefly, you should be able to continue the test. Hope this helps. :)

What is exam Id and password
Your proctor will enter that for you on test day.

Your proctor provides the ETS browser login to you on test day. However, before test day, you'll want to log in to your ProctorU account. Then click the live chat window in the bottom right part of the screen. Ask the live chat agent for the "chat applet download link." On test day, click that link, and you will download a chat program that will immediately open and connect you with a proctor. (The connection to the proctor itself is not immediate. It can take a few minutes, and in rare instances, it can take up to around 20 minutes-- wait times are normally short, though. :) )
After having scheduled your exam you can find a countdown in your ProctorU account. As soon as this countdown is zero, you can click on a button next to the countdown to start your exam. Then, you have to complete several steps such as showing your ID, taking a photo of you and reading through some stuff and confirming that you understood all these terms and regulations. After you completed these steps you can download this chat-function which connects you to a proctor (or a technician in case there are some problems). After my technical issues were solved by several technicians, the proctor started to talk to me. He wanted me to show all four walls of the rooms (and the laptop itself with a mirror) and then he entered the exam ID and password for me. And the exam started. By the way, unlike the person in the video, the proctor didn’t ask me to show him the room again after the break and also, I didn’t need to show him everything in the room (e.g. he wasn’t interested in what is under my table). So after the break, he just entered my exam ID and password again and the exam continued. 😉

I do not recommend to take this test. Almost 2 month still no scores issued. Noone answers the emails, no clear explanation about the reasons of delay. Noone taking care about the problem. No help , no assistance. Money thrown away. Who else haven't recieved their scores yet?

@@marcostorrestaboada5502 I'd recommend to check more feedbacks and call them and ask questions by email to cast away doubts. I spend about 1 hour to be reached by the agent on the phone and my emails they simply ignore.... If I had known it were like this I would have choosen IELTS and now I am stuck.
