  • I've always been intrigued with random little facts. Because of this, I wanted to look into the history of the images on the bank notes here in Albania. The first of this mini-series is the 2000 lek note, and I decided to go to Butrint National Park to try and recreate the photo on the back of it.

    Money denomination is still a problem. During the reign of King Zog, our money, Frang Ari (golden frank) was way more powerful. But when the Italians came, they somehow managed to convince us that paper money (banknotes) were far powerful. Then Frank Ar was renominated Lek.

    • @emermbiemer302
      @emermbiemer302 5 лет назад +1

      Dorian Zhega it wasn’t the italians who convinced us that paper money was better. King zog simply made paper money more valuable and took all the gold for himself. That gold is sitting in an English bank last time I checked. Idk any details but it wasn’t the italians it was like usually our own who screwed us.

    You talk about the "Lekë", but you forgot to talk about its etymology. I think it's a short version of Alexander. Alexander the Great in albanian is also known as "Leka i Madh". Anyway a nice video. Greetings from Skopje.

    • @JamesLeithart
      @JamesLeithart  5 лет назад +6

      thanks for the info! i actually chose to title the video the way i did because i wasn’t planning on talking about the history of the “lekë” as much as the history of the place/person ON the paper. But i appreciate you sharing some knowledge!

    • @emermbiemer302

      @MilIMeta 5 лет назад +2

    awesome vid bro! sitting here in Melbourne salivating as i always leave behind my heart when i travel to my motherland...the feeling i get when I first land is "finally..I'm home"
    the capture from above was/is perfect! the music too is very heartwarming bro..pulls heart strings always!
    i remember dad telling me when he use to go to albania when he was younger and exchange aussie dollars he couldn't fit the money in his wallet 😂 he always exaggerated "1 aussie dollar got you 1,000,000 LEK" ahaha felt rich with a full pocket ahaha 😂😂
    -wonder if you've realised how musical albanians are..there is a broad range from ancient to modern. perhaps you can do a vid on some traditional albanian music...bagpipe, flute(shepard), këngë me zë(songs with voice/voices) or këngë lab, tamborine(woman) plus heaps of old folk music...i crossed paths with film maker dan shutt who you can find here on yt. his masterpiece documentary on iso polyphony singing, washed by the moon you have to watch! albanian iso polyphony was included and now is protected by UNESCO - Dan Shutt is just like you...he fell in love with albania "i quit school, sold everything to make my video of albanian music" i believe he is still there.. **he is from england

    Hey man, for some information, alot of albania refers lek in the video as 20000 instead of 2000, this happens with every lek, so if you go to buy something but it costs they say it costs 10x what you got in your hand, it means what I said above, so the 50 lek is known as 500 lek and so on, sorry if I wasnt too clear.
