Money denomination is still a problem. During the reign of King Zog, our money, Frang Ari (golden frank) was way more powerful. But when the Italians came, they somehow managed to convince us that paper money (banknotes) were far powerful. Then Frank Ar was renominated Lek.
Dorian Zhega it wasn’t the italians who convinced us that paper money was better. King zog simply made paper money more valuable and took all the gold for himself. That gold is sitting in an English bank last time I checked. Idk any details but it wasn’t the italians it was like usually our own who screwed us.
You talk about the "Lekë", but you forgot to talk about its etymology. I think it's a short version of Alexander. Alexander the Great in albanian is also known as "Leka i Madh". Anyway a nice video. Greetings from Skopje.
thanks for the info! i actually chose to title the video the way i did because i wasn’t planning on talking about the history of the “lekë” as much as the history of the place/person ON the paper. But i appreciate you sharing some knowledge!
@Mevlan Isufi it has less to do with Alexander the Great and more with what @John Morris said. Many also think that the "Leke" refers to Leke Dukagjini, which is untrue.

Hey man, for some information, alot of albania refers lek in the video as 20000 instead of 2000, this happens with every lek, so if you go to buy something but it costs they say it costs 10x what you got in your hand, it means what I said above, so the 50 lek is known as 500 lek and so on, sorry if I wasnt too clear.
yeah, it seems like you’re describing the difference between old lek and new lek. I definitely run into this frequently but it’s not too hard to figure out
My friend found one of these notes .we didnt know how much it was worth so we put it in an automated currency exchange machine in london and it gave us 26 british pounds i thought wow thats a strong bit of cash. We looked at the receipt and the machine had glitched out and read it as a discontinued 100 deutschmark. Can you guess what we did next.......?
