I'd argue that there has never been as much reverb on vocals as in today's pop music. Maybe because the arrangements are very sparse but it's an ocean out there !

Geoff, you are a natural presenter and educator! What a wonderfully crafted and well-thought informative video this is! Thank you ever so much for sharing it with us and for your immense effort! I'm looking forward to the next video in this "mindful usage of effects" series! An EQ and a compression video in the similar style would be much appreciated!

Yessir. This series has been so helpful to rein in reverbs and delays. Thank you for these, and I look forward to seeing more to get off the struggle bus. 😅

This is by far the best explanation on Reverb! The video on Delay was amazing as well!
Please keep them coming. Thank you!

Such a great video! Really glad I discovered this channel. Your delivery is clear and straight-forward and your videos don't have a bunch of extra fluff like so many on RUclips. Thank you!

This is the best video about Reverb I've ever seen. Beautiful explained - it made me re-work some of my songs. Very inspiring! Thank you.

EQ is what I have been missing in the reverb setting!!! I usually add a compressor but it makes everything muddy. Thanks for this video! 👍🏼

I know it's a Reverb tutorial but wouldn't it be better to tame some of this sibilant sounds with De-esser first and then play with EQ? Just in case I want brighter reverb?
P.S: Heh... As soon as I wrote the comment you went and De-essed the vocal a bit. 😆

Hey Geoff, your tutorial on reverb is awesome! Wish I would watch it 10 years ago
Maybe it sounds obvious, but what I want to say, it is always important to stick to the basics. Once you mastered fundamentals, you can learn more advanced topics with ease. It applies to any field, music, programming or even cooking.. Do not go for fancy plugins or equipment.. Start and master simple stuff. I always thought the more expensive your equipment are, the better music you will produce.. That does not work! Knowledge is a superpower!
Oh, Geoff, the last sample in a tracking area, which placed in the bottom, in my opinion the key of a sample is not fitting the overall song.. The sample most probably recorded in A minor.. that just my thought 😅
    Cheers to everyone!
    With love from Kazakhstan 🇰🇿

Thank you! Super useful video. One question I had was whether it is ever useful to duck reverb the way one ducks delay? To prevent too much wash and improve intelligibility the way you did with pre delay/decay/EQ.

Yes, what you're referring to is sometimes referred to as 'Tail Recovery and Suppression control'. There are some reverbs that tackle this for you (Anything by Exponential Audio) and others don't have this feature but you can create your own suppression/recovery system by side-chaining reverb to the dry signal manually, often using a compressor.

question: seeing that you sent every channel to a different send, does this make any difference than putting the reverb directly on the channels?

    • @ManchesterMusic
      @ManchesterMusic  Год назад +1

You're seeing this because I wanted to demonstrate how to perform bussing manually (as I mentioned at the beginning of the video).
