- Ray Kroc may get all the credit - but there's a lesser-known history of the @McDonald's fast food chain. It got its start at a stand in San Bernardino, California, where brothers Dick and Mac McDonald created the Speedee Service System to offer burgers that weren't just fast and cheap, but also good.
Any historic remaining elements from those early days, however, are nearly extinct. Lost LA host Nathan Masters joins Chris Nichols of Los Angeles Magazine for a Big Mac at the oldest standing McDonald's restaurant in the world - a circa 1953 example of the ""Golden Arches"" that's located in Downey, California - to talk architecture, preservation, hamburgers and ketchup.

Lived in southern California all my life and I was finally able to visit this location with my wife and kids this past year. Loved it.
When it comes to the history and origin of the fast-food burger, Southern California is vastly underrated.
I ‘ve always wondered how a burger from the original mcdonalds might have tasted like.
I doubt the ingredients/prep are original, just the awesome old school look.
@@jareds9863 I’m sure. I meant original as in back in the day before it blew up.
Ah my bad man
@@jareds9863you’re good bro. No need to apologize.
Now, with the current economy in 2024, eating here is like going out to dinner.
So San Bernardino isn’t the 1st McDonalds??? 🤔
The first McDonald's was in SB but the oldest remaining McDonald's is in Downey.
Good job with parts of thee history but you failed telling the story of how the Family name was stolen from e Mc Donald's family .
Stolen or bought?
Sadly now it's tasteless overpriced food.
Really? His first Big Mac ever?
