    Ceriatone has a hint of subtle upgrade compared to Mosky obviously, but both definitely sound great. Tight budget: Mosky or Soul Food. True Clone that proudly local built: The Centura🙂

    @johngonzales8224 Год назад +1

    The difference between a Klon and the more expensive clones vs the Mosky is the others have a transformer to boost from 9v to 18 volts which gives a bit more head room. I wonder if you used an 18v power supply on the golden horse if it would have been even better?

  • @ExpatZ266

    I mostly heard a volume difference which seemd to be from the gain section, you probably could have pushed the gain on the Mosky just a little harder to match and it would have been a near toss up.
    I picked one up a couple months back to add some more color to my recording rig and it does what it does great, but not being a blues/classic rock player I just dont use what it does all that often.
    Stacks really nice though and competes outright with my TS808 for that spot.

  • @arveerga4076
    @arveerga4076 3 года назад +1

    Thank you for your great and spot on reviews. Based on your previous review I bought the Muslady golden horse, great as a clean boost. However I also bought a few other pedals and I would highly recommend the Mosky Obsessive overdrive pedal, an OCD Fulltone chlone. On high gain it is absolutely lovely, smooth and warm. The first time I plugged my vintage mim Strat in to it, gain at nine, and then to a Marshall tube I was shocked when hitting an A5 power cord, I felt like Mike McCready playing Alive. Best OD I’ve had, close to distortion on high gain particularly with golden horse in front. Really basis for my sound. Highly recommended.

    I just received my Golden Horse for $18 from China and although I can’t compare it to any Klon or clone, I think it’s a great pedal that sounds awesome! Now when I listen to your vid I’d say I would pick the Golden Horse over the Ceriatone for my live set up anytime: it’s small, it’s cheap and it sounds so close to the Ceriatone that I find no rational reason to spend the $$ for that (not even considering a real Klon) or use 3 times as much space on my (small) pedal board. Perhaps in a recording situation you would like the Ceriatone, but even then I don’t think it has any real advantage over the Golden Horse that a little eq and compression couldn’t fix.... but maybe my ears are just rubbish, I dunno..... ;-)

    • @DerekPaulGuitar
      @DerekPaulGuitar  4 года назад +3

      Honestly Jason as i say in the video, the Golden horse is that close! it will definitely annoy some people who don't think a $20 pedal can sound that good but it just does, i mean the Ceriatone would definitely sound better in a recording situation (more refined sound due to the quality construction) but as i said in the Vs video in a live situation, i don't think you'll hear it, thanks for the comment man, and enjoy the Golden Horse :)

    New subscriber, I have been picking up a lot of the budget pedals recently, one or two a week... I got the tube screamer clone last week, and I have NO idea how it compares to an actual tube screamer pedal, but I do know that what it's done for my guitar tone has absolutely hooked me on these pedals. Now... prior to that pedal, I've never played/owned any OD pedal, but because I instantly fell in love with it, I decided to start stacking my boost and OD pedals and I just bought (about an hour ago) the Golden horse pedal. I can't wait to see what tone I get from this stacked with the screamer clone. I haven't looked at the rest of your videos yet.. but I'm new to stacking od pedals.. if you haven't done a video on it, I'd love to hear your take on it as well as how to do it properly, and what pedal I should try or add next. depending on the components tolerance, you can't put the pots the same place and excpect the same tone. A bit more here, a less here, and you achieve the exact same tone with both. These pedals are simply perfect. Blind test, you can't hear any difference.

    Hi Derek. Your videos usually give me a lot to think about. The Ceriatone has the edge as you describe, but I bet most people have other pedals on their board that could add that extra sparkle to the Mosky, ( a touch chorus for example.). It sounds a lot like my Boss Blues Driver in front of my strat, which is a good thing. I am committed to a six pedal board, (and I have already been forced to move my looper onto the floor because of your videos:), but the overdrive slot is up for grabs because it is currently occupied by a Behringer Tube Screamer clone that isn't cutting it, (the Blues Driver is in front of another amp by itself). I keep circling around purchasing a Fulltone OCD, but this might work and as you point out, for $20.00, what can go wrong?

    Making a pedal one by one by hand is probably how the cheap mosky are made..they claim hand made on their website. Its how most boutique peds are done. I’m geussing all bar boss and other large companies, would have infrastructure to tool up a factory of robots to assemble pedals. My geuss is that all chinese peds are hand made, hands are cheap and there be many of them, and it may be an assembly line. A pedal is only a circuit board which come from the board house prepopulated with surface mount parts. Assembly consists of inserting pots, switches, jacks and led which may or may not have to soldered depending on how they designed the board. In any rate the dpdt foot switch would have to be hand soldered. I got one on order..definitely going to pull it apart and have a looksee...

      Given all the SMD on the Mosky boards inside their pedals, and the MASSIVE amount of units they move, I'm 99.9% certain it's all done by machines whenever possible.
      Some aspects of their pedals seem hand soldered though - namely the stomp button and wires connecting it to the board. I've had to open up two of them and resolder/rewire because of sloppiness.
      Hint: Mosky also makes a Little Brute Drive clone that is fucking killer. I've only seen it selling on DHGate.com though and it's being marketed as the real thing. Worth every 2500 pennies though!

    Living in California with tons of gear and incredible musicians, a bunch of players in early days got many original pedals from BILL still for $279 later $329 and we all have them and sold them. Great pedal just the only way to use the pedal is with Gain between 9clock and noon to get the best sound with volume and tone depending on volume and tone desired THE KLON IS NOT A OVERDRIVE PEDAL it SUCKS. In our opinion is all a hype because today's pedals like the RYRA have a better overall sound and we all after testing many times prefer to the original KLON. Bill still selling the KLON pedal on EBAY claiming is to help a friend and there are idiots paying $3000 for a pedal today. You can buy a killer amp or a Gibson R8 or NOCASTER FENDER or FENDER RELIC STRAT that will really improve your sound. Also when you own an awesome guitar you will play more and that's how you become a better player. That will making a huge difference in your sound, way more than any boost pedal. I love my RYRA and there's a few other pedals that are great boosts that we prefer to the KLON. Try the Morning Glory JHS, the BMF Effects El Jefe This pedal EL JEFE or the RYRA are incredible sounding. For small sized the TUMNUS and for a close to the original KLON the ARCHER pedal is very very good when comparing to a KLON. Buy a great playing guitar with an awesome amp. The majority of incredible players like Mark Knopfler/Clapton/Robben Ford or Santana aren't using many or any pedals at all, is all in your fingers, your guitar & amp. Get a good guitar Fender tele or Strat or Gibson Junior or Les Paul Traditional or R8 through a Fender/Tone/King/Marshall/Germino/Komet/Bludotone/Glaswerks/Sebago/Morgan/Friedman/Bad Cat/Matchless type of amp and get a RYRA or EL JEFE and tell me what do you thing. The Klon is just like DRUGS because you can't have it, NOW you want it. Stop being fools. Buy a great Fuzz like the JHS KILT or Tone Bender like a ProAnalog MK IV also his a great boost with the gain down, Get a Big Muff or a Eric Johnson Fuzz or Bonamassa or the little green wonder or a tube screamer, get a SUPRO tremolo, Bro UNIVIBE, a MEMORY MAN or a FULLTONE ECHO and then tell me how your sound improved use 3k to your advantage. If you have a shitty sound and now you now using the KLON is going sound even worst. PRATICE PRACTICE PRATICE...

      That's officially the longest comment i've ever had, and you make some valid points, i also think that pedals like the Klon or KOT e.g. are for players that can hear and know the difference, that can hear the subtle tone changes, i for example am not of that calibre, i do of course appreciate good tone but would agree that $3000 on one pedal is complete overkill, having said that if you have the money and can hear the difference then good luck to you, thanks and stay well.

      @@DerekPaulGuitar I been bless to be able to hear the difference just when you try RYRA or ARCHER the Klon isn't anything but a HYPE. If you got one at $300 ok that's fine. I owned a few gold and silver and if they sounded that great I would kept them all. Not the case, Sincerely I prefer the RYRA just listen Guitar Paradiso Pete & Ariel RYRA Klone pedals and tell me if you Dig it.

      "The Klon is just like DRUGS because you can't have it, NOW you want it. Stop being fools."
      Exactly, and the Klon vs RYRA vs the Mosky/Muslady is the same as Klon vs Ceriatone vs Mosky/Muslady. The $ 25-30 pedals, leverage that price savings to save 10x vs 100x just the same. I don't hear anything with the big name brands that I would be spending anything more than $ 30/pedal. The RYRA is no better than anyone else's pedal, practice, live gig or recording. The Guitar Paradiso video, 27 minutes of going on about the RYRA and you're right, if you sound bad without a pedal, you'll sound bad & louder with a pedal, whether it's a $ 30-4K pedal.

      Hey Joe, I wish I had $3k to spend but I don’t. I don’t gig and play only for my own enjoyment therefore inexpensive gear that sounds good is paramount. Without gear demos like these - as imperfect as they are - are my lifeline to experimentation without killing my budget.
