I have never heard of this, which surprised me as I have an interest in wwi II tactics. Thanks great video
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for taking the time to make this interesting lesson for us.
A much needed video. Thank you!
This is BRILLIANT!! I love it. Gonna get down and get with it using this. I ain't done ship attacks for ages and you've just inspired me Req! Thanks.
ps So would you say that Martin Harlinghausen was a tosser then?...
My understanding is that Harlinghausen did the original flat release then somewhere along the way a fighter jock in a 190 figured out the toss part
Very interesting bombing technique! Looks like it requires (quite) some practice to perfect in order to get a feeling for the right timing, but I imagine it will increase a pilot's survivability if he can get well acqainted with this technique.
It will take a little practice to do the toss bomb, but with a few runs you'll get a nice feel for it
the level bombing is actually nearly foolproof, very effective tactic
Great video! I usually used a skip bombing technique when attacking ships but I will give this a try next time :)
Just plan on using this technique, and if they land early they'll skip anyway! :-)
That is true :D I just won't tell anybody what my plan is and then act as if I wanted to skip-bomb all along!
@@hummerltheOh It's a perfect plan and will never fail!
Класс. Спасибо. Как всегда без воды и по делу.
Пожалуйста, рад слышать, что вам понравилось
Welp, guess I found what I'm going to be doing today. Thanks for the video, Req!
Good luck Malloy :-)
Very, very cool technique. I also didn't realize IL-2 could simulate bomb skip, which is also incredibly neat. I've been playing for years and had no clue whatsoever. That's kind of sad, lol...
I've been doing skip-bombing since the old Il-2.
Started as joking on a lan party, low pass with a p40, and found to my surprise the bomb actually skipped.
Haven't had a chance to try in BoX, only added BoK recently.
It's a fun way to approach the ship and you can pretty much guarantee a hit with practice
Great video especially with a historical perspective in mind. However, flying level near sea level is a great way to die from AA in my experience. (What was the AA level set to on this ships in the IL-2 mission editor?) I see these techniques as inferior if you are a good low-angle dive bomber.
I just set this up in the quick mission editor so I'm not sure what the level is set to. In RL the big advantage to this attack was that because they came in low and were hard to spot up until they actually performed the attack, but against AI obviously this isn't possible as they're all seeing/all knowing. In the sim though it's a lot of fun to attack to this way compared to a dive bombing attack.
*looks at diagrams* huh, looks a lot like my skip-bombing technique, I picked up in Il-2:PF.
Req: "and if you release early, the bombs will skip to the target."
Ah, that's why...
As a question: any plans on redoing the older Il-2 vids to the boBP standard?
Regardless, top job on all of them,
Thanks Jos, are you referring to the original B of Stalingrad videos? I don't plan on redoing those as it would take a lot of effort/timr and I don't think the results are that much different if I did
@@RequiemsACTL those are indeed the ones. And quite understandable if they are not. As you say a lot of work, for little real benefit.
The (pre-patch) mix-up in rpm full forward/back, is on me. Since I know about it. 😀
So is the 'Turnip' part just the colloquial term Luftwaffe fliers used for masthead bombing, or is there some added finesse to this particular technique that's lost on me?
I wish I knew....my uneducated guess is that the way turnips look when coming out of the ground is like how the ships silhouettes look when you're attacking them as I believe this technique was used near sunset, so the ships stand out against the dusk horizon. Maybe someone else truly knows why the "turnip" is in the name. It's essentially a masthead attack, but there is a little tweak in the second example as it utilises a toss bomb to increase the range whereas the other one relies on a straight and level release at a closer range.
could you share what manual/book the picture you use in 0:27 that shows the different bombing attacks with the Fw-190 is from? i'm curious and i'd like to look for it myself
I'm not sure I have a book with it in it...may have just been a picture I found. I'll have to check
@@RequiemsACTL please do, i've recently gained interest in anti-shipping operations during ww2 and the early cold war and im thankful for every bit of information i can find
How do you think about dogfight in battlefield series?
The battlefield series is not very representative of how dogfighting works. I've played all the BF series and I never fly the airplanes in it
Dogfight debrief pls x)
If the MP servers enable tacview recording again I'll gladly make more debrief videos.
I‘m gonna be toss with my 190 G a lot
Good hits! In a 110, ships are my specialty, but I don't use these techniques.
Cheers Justin, hope all's well with you mate!
@@RequiemsACTL doing well mate! Let me know next time you come through CVG, beers on me!
Why do you call it HE Triple One but not JU Double 8? lol
Good question....I guess that's how they roll off the tongue better? lol Thinking about others...just to make things worse....for the F-111 I always say "F one eleven" haha
@@RequiemsACTL lol just something that I noticed. Gotta love those weird mannerisms, we all have em
