    Interesting.
You are the third person I know to have done this. Always wanted to play with idea as well. But too many other ideas.
    Well done.

It is fascinating, I had just found out my mentor has done this technique in the past- would have been good to learn from! So that makes 3 for me as well. I appreciate your interest, and I recommend trying this out when you get the chance!

Considering all the time , and skill it takes to cut a diamond and make it look beautiful I see why they cost so much .

I really appreciate these kind words for my small channel! Even though this type of doublet certainly wasn't my idea, I really enjoyed trying to figure out a way to try it. Your support is very appreciated!

    Thanks for sharing!
All epoxy will yellow over time, even the ones with the most resistance to yellowing.
Maybe a silicone or acrylic adhesive will work?
There is a silicone adhesive used for ceramic repairs. It can handle the heat from a dishwasher.
The acrylic powder used for fingernails might be a candidate? Needs testing. Mix acrylic powder with acetone to polymerize it.

I always appreciate your return views and comments! Thank you very much for the warning, I will be monitoring the glue, but I wanted to share a few things to consider in the meantime:
      • This epoxy has been specifically manufactured to not yellow. Though, admittedly, labels aren't always the best to go off of
      • This glue also, however, is popularly used as adhesive for *cabochon* opal doublets and triplets. It's the adhesive of choice for not just its clarity and strength, but also because they are assured it will not yellow. So it has some field testing as well
      • And in my own experience, though I haven't used it for very long, nothing has yellowed within 4 months- though I will continue to monitor that as well
But I do agree: There's a possibility that this might still yellow, but perhaps only if it was left out in the sun for a very long time. Knowing how sensitive opal can be, I can't see anyone leaving out doublets or triplets long enough to find out! Overall, time will tell. And if it does then I'll be sure to try out those great ideas!
P.s. I'm getting ready to tackle another amber, and I'll be trying out your suggestions on that stone shortly!

Agree need to be in the sun to accelerate epoxy to yellow. Some day I'll test the fingernail acrylic powder. Looking forward to watching you tackle the amber. Tks! @@crystalquarry

Very interesting cutting. I think if you used about a quarter opal and 3 quarters quarts that might fill the quarts more. 👍👍

Just discovered your RUclips channel and subscribed (and same for Instagram) and almost caught up, but thought I would mention that my favorite combo for polishing quartz material is Gearloose's Creamway lap with spritzes of Cerium Oxide solution from a spray bottle every now and then (1 tsp. Cerium Oxide to 3/4 cup purified or distilled water... shake, wait a second or two and spray). Combine this with a very slow drip (just enough to keep the lap wet, but not enough to wash away the spray too quickly) and quartz polishes up nicely. I figure since you have both the lap and the oxide, you might like to give it a go to see what you think (if you haven't already). I haven't tried the polishing film discs yet, but I certainly do appreciate your detail in their use!
Thank you for all your hard work creating and sharing these videos!!! They are great, and your finished gems are beautiful!! 🙌👏💯

I was so happy to read this! I will for sure be trying that lap and polish combination out, thank you for your recommendation! I checked out your blog and you do some fantastic work, so it's an honor to have your appreciation for my craft and channel. Thank you so much! 🙏

@@crystalquarry Actually, I am the one honored to have you visit my blog, and thank you so much for your comment!! 🙏 I continue to learn, and have already done so by watching your channel... I would have never even thought of creating a "denim lap" for burnishing amber (fantastic idea!), and I like your technique of epoxying two stones together when making a doublet, as I know I would have been plagued by air bubbles if I hadn't watched your videos first!!
I am also *super-impressed* that you were able to acquire a fantastic faceting machine that was well-cared for (and know it will continue to be!). That was my biggest fear when I had settled on getting a faceting machine as I didn't belong to any club or personally know anyone else that faceted (coming from the "cabbing" side of cutting/polishing rock). I settled on Ultra Tec (and SOOOO glad I did!), but fearing buying a used one that might have issues since I had never even used one before, I held out until I could afford a new one and went with their entry model, a VL Classic Analog, and love it.
But, seeing you with your *true* classic, the V2 from the 70's that is still running smooth is so heartening to see, and as Ultra Tec is a leader in the I.T. industry that also makes equipment for polishing silicon crystals used in computer chips, they won't be going anywhere very soon, either (unlike many other faceting machine companies that have already gone out of business, or sold their company off to someone else). I came so close to buying a much cheaper machine (in cost AND quality), and am so glad I didn't as now I know what it is REALLY like to facet on a quality machine (and the machine I was considering was made by one of those companies that has already since closed their doors).
Apologies for my rambling, but I sincerely hope you continue to create your great videos... I love watching this art form when I'm not faceting myself, I'm always learning and really enjoy seeing others work at the craft, too. Thank you again!! 😊

@@silverdimensions I really am so glad my videos can help teach anyone in the craft! On getting the right machine, I definitely agree. I had gotten a very cheap Graves M1 from the 60's as my first machine. I'm fairly certain it was out of alignment and fighting against that as a beginner just made the entire process frustrating. I still was able to get this machine cheaply as well thanks to a friend, so I try to upkeep it as best as possible.
It really makes it worth it to know others would like to see more videos! Thank you so much for your interest in this new and growing channel 🙏 I'm hoping to post more soon (roughly once a month)
