This review was a game changer for me. This IS the radio I'm listening to your review again but have my phone hooked up through Bluetooth to the h-501x. Great radio. I've sold my satellit 750 and pl-880. Keep doing what you are doing I love listening to you -Jake CO USA
Thank you for your videos. I've had this radio for a half year and I'm very happy with it. The reception performance is very good and I can receive many radio stations at my location, even during the day on long wave where there are not many stations in Europe anymore. Of course, there are also points of criticism that I noticed. On the one hand it would be nice to have a display in the Display with which battery you are currently working and on the other hand a display whether you are in direct frequency input mode or in memory input mode when you press the VF/VM button. In the big screen would be enough space for it. Furthermore, a function for audio recording on the SD card would be nice, unfortunately not provided by the developer. Thank you very much and keep up the good work with your videos....Greetings from Europe Germany
My PL330 picks up signals from my cellphone and QRM from various devices around my apartment. I've got a chair in my living room that seems to be in a sweet spot. Instant improvement to signal strength and much less interference
It has 4 speakers 2 each side there is something different about the speakers not sure what. I got this from a channel where the back was off. The ferrite antenna was huge for a portable radio. The build looked very good. I am no expert but I have dug in to electronics repairing game systems. I ordered one last night on the strength of many reviews I watched. Yes there is some issues but what doesn't have some issue to grippe about? I see there is a blue tooth so I am wondering if I can use my blue tooth headphone or speakers.
Thanks for the great review! This is a crazy question -- I understand the differences between the 501 and the PL-990 (I did listen!), but if *you* had to choose between H-501 and the PL-990...which would you pick? An even crazier question: H-501/PL-990 vs what was the holy grail when I was younger, Sony ICF-2010? Thank you from a happy subscriber, and a very happy user of a PL-330 and PL-368. Thanks!
I thought you might have included the Tecsun S2000. Whilst it lacks some of the features on the more modern portable style radios, it is the only affordable bench top radio with a proper VFO knob and an analogue S meter. I still enjoy mine.
Good review and possibly a good radio to have but my money was tight so I went for the Tecsun PL-398MP that has stereo sound too. no ssb but SD card and aux audio input that can have a Bluetooth receiver plugged in thus turning it into a Radio, MP3 player and Bluetooth speakers not bad for £50 ($70)
I am really thinking heavily on getting me the Tecsun H-501 from Amazon because I can get it in about 2 days but it's not the X model and I heard you say on another video that that's not important that some models come with English user manuals and that is what x means for export but then I heard other people say that the X is the newer model. The model sold on Amazon says it does come with an English user manual so should I be concerned? I'm on Social Security and will be getting paid in a week and want to order one.
@@OfficialSWLchannel thank you so much for being so knowledgeable. Just out of the blue about a week or so your channel popped up and I didn't even watch any radio channels but after checking yours out I got hooked on this radio. I've had a few kind of nice Portables in the'80s, 90s and the early 2000s the last one got struck by lightning a long time ago and I think it's a good time to get back into it.
@@OfficialSWLchannel Could you recommend me the best shortwave radio with recording function please?? I'm in France, they announced that in 2024 , France stop FM radios, because of the Dab....and almost all the shortwave radios are stopped in France and Occidental Europe, so my question is, it's still worthy to buy a shortwave radio in my case??
Hello from Newfoundland. I have a Grundig YB400PE that I've had for years now. Is it still a good viable radio compared to the new technical radios of today? Just curious as to what it's sister radio is at this date in time.
It als has an mp3. I only wish it would be able to record from the radio. Not a big deal breaker, but a bit of a downer. Otherwise it looks like a nice product.
oh yeah, the 880 is great... all you need is a low noise location or good antenna. H-501x is great but it will not get you anything that the 880 is not capable of. have fun !
It will only charge one battery at a time... You must switch the switch to charge the second battery... (makes since if you think about it)... but I wasn't sure... 🤔
Anyone know where I can buy this radio in Canada. I can only seem to find USA dealers. Amazon lists them but has no stock, any help would be appreciated.
@@OfficialSWLchannel Anon is a top dealer. I bought this radio from there and it arrived faulty. (audio kept cutting out) I contacted them, they had the radio collected and shipped out a brand new unit straight away. I don't think I would have had better outcome if I'd bought it from here in the UK.

Very nice radio, I heard the updated Sangean 909X2 solved a lot of the problems on the 909X as well...

Hi Dakota... There is a line-out so you could record from the radio, it's just that you can't record to the microSD.
This is one that might be nice for my collection but I do not have a “need” for it. Good review Gilles, looks like a great radio for sure.
Gilles your utube videos are so cool
Looks great, want to get one! How long is the telescopic antenna?
Excellent advice. Thank you!
Hi, I like to know your opinion about the Tecsun S2000. I didn't find any videos on your channel about the S2000. Ailton from Brazil.
Great radio. Highly recommended.
I hope to buy it soon :)
Would I do better with this as opposed to the Tecsun 880 I already have?
no, the 880 is great receiver there is no real reason to upgrade to this
Thanks. Saved me a bunch of money. I hooked up the ML30 antenna outside about 15' above this corner room and my Tecsun 880 came alive big time.

Nice radio but will hold off getting one til the reviews of the new Eton comes out. The PL-660 also has no muting.
TECSUN RADIO NICE RADIO
Gilles your Tecsun H 50,1x
Mw lw fmstreo SW ssb 5 band
Desk Top receiver is so awesome
I do find it to be better than my Sangean ATS-909X2 in many features.
What is RDS?

Very nice 👍 top shelf

I want one of these!
It has 4 speakers. Two per side.
Nice, but I can get a 42" flat screen TV for the same price. I think these high-end radios are overpriced.
