Thank you for doing another video on this great radio! Yesterday, during your show, I was going to ask you if you could do more videos using this radio, because I absolutely love this radio.

I’m glad you set me straight on shortwave receivers that don’t live up to their pricing. My top radios now are Sangean ATS-405, C Crane Skywave (non SSB), and Eton Elite Traveler III. I also have an XHDATA D-219, Eton Elite Mini, a GPX R616W. They’re all fun radios which is the whole purpose of tuning and listening. I will definitely get a Tecsun with SSB. Perhaps the PL-330, 680, 880, 990, or H501X.

Hello and good morning from the Philippines. Retired here for the US 6 years ago. Thank you for your channel uploads!! They are awesome!! I have the Tecsun H-501 on order from the official XHDATA China seller through Lazada online. Lazada is something like Amazon here.. It's not an export version. They do not have an English version of the owners manual. Did some research and the H-501 and H-501x are basically the same thing. Some different settings for some of the bands. But, the setup for China and the Philippines are the same. Should be plug-n-play when it comes. Anyway, I downloaded the PDF manual and printed it out. Will place it into a ring binder. And, I plan to do the same thing with my PL-330, PL-990, and XHDATA D-808. Mostly because of the larger size print. The XHDATA D-808 manual that comes with the radio will make you go blind from squinting trying to read it hahaha.

Does this radio have a scan feature, either for finding signals or for moving between stored frequencies sequentially? If not can you recommend a similar quality radio that does?
    Thank you!

I definitely have an itchy finger for an H501X. As soon as I find a deal, I'll own one.

What I found out about FM stations here in the New York City metro area they compress their audio to get more punch after the signal

I live in Vancouver and now get very little above the noise level on shortwave on my previously viable rig. Even oddball broadcasts like "Supreme Master", I used to be able to pull in-I would give a listen to whatever it was, on principle no matter how fringe. Nowadays, I sometimes cannot get even WWV-and good stations like that I could get loud and clear on a good night- like WWCR are off the air.

Radio broadcast from Ireland on long wave closed down this week. I believe it was costing £240,000.00 a year.

The broadcast FM stations in Kansas City tend to overload more for me on my SDR. If I reduce the audio and/or RF gain, it's not as bad (but still noticeable).
The broadcast AM stations don’t usually overload, but I tend to get a lot of ghosts on harmonics below their assigned frequencies.
I don’t get as many ghosts on FM stations’ harmonic frequencies. Then again, I think Bott Network (an area religious network) does have a repeater at around 28MHz. But this could be a ghost of 96.5 FM.

I have just ordered one of these . I already have the S2000 which I really like . I am buying the 501 because of its portability and the mp3 playback and bluetooth . I hope it works as least as well as the s2000 on SW .
Can you imagine if we had had radios like these back in the 70s and 80s when SW was buzzing with life . Here in the UK not that much is still available to listen to . I have been a SWL since the 50s . Glory days .
I also have a 330 but not happy with thst. Sensitive but much too fiddly with the buttons and horrible DSP tuning . Ok for travel though . Love your channel . Aleays enjoy . Best regards .

So you need speakers as good these to reveal how compressed the FM sound is.

I find an increase in audio quality when one
receives an HD signal on FM, as some of
my radios 📻 receive it. Ray.

How loud do these speakers get? Any idea of the max db level at 1 m distance?

I found it so disappointing that the 501 and 990 had MP3 Playback, but no record. A wasted opportunity, especially when cheap Tecsun models like the ICR-110 have it. No RDS either.

We have a local 50 kilowatt station which sounds terrible no frequency response
