In this video, I go over a RUclips comment thread to demonstrate how many people approaching Bitcoin struggle with cognitive biases or anger-- what's commonly known as "Bitcoin Derangement Syndrome."

You spent waaay more time with that chronic BDS victim than anyone expected, but it was an entertaining smackdown nonetheless. _Keep up the great work, Matthew!_
This person needed the permission of science journals to accept Bitcoin. I like how you said he should be the scientist himself and do the work to come to the conclusion.
Everyone gets Bitcoin at the price they deserve...
I agree and I am a bit late to the party. Fixing that.
Scientific method is amazing, but doesn't work well for social phenomenon and emergent systems like BTC
Read the whitepaper !
He says he likes to "understand complex systems", but isn't interested in going beyond a surface level understanding of BTC... He'll be back in 10 years, to convert his fiat for what will be only a few sats. Gotta love it.
He will be back in 10 years to delete his comments. 😂
Unconscious incompetence - we have all been there. Unfortunately for this guy his is very very public.
I actually have a bit of hope for him.
Maybe it's going to click in.
At least he is here arguing with us on his own spare time, right ??
@PierreEmmanuelDOCQUIN I agree. I was way worse than him. I felt he was ready to buy some BTC to experiment with.
“You will buy back higher” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is why I don't generally debate people - once you make a point they don't acknowledge or respond to it, they just move to another point or change the subject. Or just strawman or any make any flawed argument.
For those people it’s just their process of coming to an understanding. Some people lash out when they are struggling to comprehend something new. Others will be skeptical, ignore it, or disregard it completely. Time will tell if that will be to their detriment.
The beauty of Bitcoin is it does not care. It will continue to reprice everything regardless of the noise, anger, and belly aching of those people.
Why wouldn’t anyone want to hold a money that cannot be debased? For those that have put in the work to understand, It seems so obvious.
Guy gathered all his mental prowess to read one article published in 'Science' magazine and now thinks he is a scientist.
Great comment
🤣🎯
My wife said, "I'm pretty sure this person is a bubble."
🤣🤣🤣
They're definitely a bubble-head
I used to have conversations like this with people but now I've embodied Satoshi's quote:
“If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.”
Cringe, that guy just keeps digging himself into a deeper hole and has no real talking points. Typical nocoiner conversation.
At least there is hope for nocoiners. Shipcoiners are degen gamblers.
Teach the young know-it-all the concept of math. Whoever Matt was interacting with doesn’t understand how math works.
I find it hilarious when people get mad about things that are completely VOLUNTARY to use/do
this is a simple but great point. if you hate bitcoin, dont buy any.
We have lived here in El Salvador since shortly after the legal tender law. The map shows only a fraction of the businesses accepting Bitcoin. Bitcoin adoption is proceeding slowly, but steadily.
There is a lot of skepticism, thanks in large part to the poor timing of the last bear market. Most people cannot endure the volatility. Thankfully, there are companies here deploying innovative solutions for regular working people.
Unlike other countries, there are few barriers to using Bitcoin as your sole medium of exchange here. There are more people doing so this year than last year, and there will be more next year too.
If I had to guess I would say he is employed in Academia. No where else can you pretend to be an intellectual without any actual proof.
This is why i do not engage with these these types anymore. No amount of new information is enough, no work will be put in on their behalf, no ppoint.
Imagine thinking that bubbles, in the day of information, last longer than when news still traveled by ship. What an absurd notion.
Applaud you for the efforts.
Yeah, that 'bubble duration' argument was clearly among the weakest he made (although none were particularly strong).
People who don’t realize they are biased are the worst, literally impossible to be logical with.
That's how I feel about Bitcoin Maxi's. They have complete tunnel vision. No vision of new technologies and other opportunities.
2 words: Truth and Time, that person has not asked the basic question of what is the truth and has not bothered to take the Time to seek it out
Yes, well said
How about this Truth and Time. It's been 15 years and it's still working.
Matthew destroyed Spirolizing …. bless him …. Keep buying medieval gold and silver pal x
@@Bitcoin_University Wow you put so much time to respond to your comments. Never seen this...
Yes, like a passionate teacher of BITCOIN UNIVERSITY.
I remember that I wasted so much time in a NYS UNIVERSITY of Binghamton with ponytail hippies teachers bs-ing newcomers that paid their cushy jobs' checks. I still feel an abused parent of an intellectually abused student that came out with good grades but poor knowledge and skills.
HERE IS THE REAL UNIVERSITY for REALLY NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE: BITCOIN.
You're a saint Matt.
I stopped talking to those people.
I just give them a "stay poor dude" message.
Ah, but both MSNBC and CNN say bitcoin is BAD, Therefore it's true! Do some scientific research Matt. 🤣

The “(so sad)” makes me laugh every time
It reminds me of Larry David's "sad, very sad"
I dropped my life savings into Bitcoin based on intuition and faith. The intellect came later.
It’s alarming to me how defensive people get who “invest” in other “cryptocurrencies”. If they sense you are a Bitcoin maxi in the slightest sense (which I have no problem with), they go off. They can’t just accept the fact that they’re chasing a quick buck and when you call them out on it, they lose it. Very telling about how uneducated people are on how money works. God Bless
Nobody wants to be called a scammer, be it directly or indirectly, thus people's defensiveness to the issue.
@DDogg If they don't want to be called scammers all they have to do is not be scammers.
@@Madosatoshist I agree, but people don't like the label/stigma associated with the word.
First thing that shot to my mind watching this video: "Do you know what we call a bunch of anecdotes? Data!" - Michael Knowles. Keep up the spirit, Matt

The best BTC Channel ... thank you for your research Mathew
Clearly Cognitive Dissonance. My dad always said, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
I appreciate the review on the commentary. It's important as it helps with others having similar conversations. Totally understand the skepticism by many - I did it too at first. But it takes work, an open mind like you state and ability to think objectively which can be really hard for many, especially on complex topics like global finance and money holistically. For most, there's just no 'easy button' to understand it. Channels like yours absolutely help - but you're still going to need to watch dozens of them, and go down some of the rabbit holes no matter what. Thanks Matt for your dedication to the space and commitment to continue producing content. I share your video links all the time.
That was actually a great conversation to read, and you made Very good points !!
Your content is great ! Thank you.
I appreciate that!
Another banger Matt! It’s weird that people waste so much time not doing any research just to shoot from the hip like that. They see the same dollar melting that we do. Time to get on the winning team!
For something to have value, there must be a valuer. There is no such thing as intrinsic value, only emergent value.
Heard the same thing about Linux. Also had the same misunderstandings. The first thing was "Linux could never be useful and was a toy". The second thing was all the financial gains people thought they would make. Linux has enormous utility , but its not scarce. Bitcoin has tremendous utility because its scarce. Also like the philosophy behind Unix , a tool should do one thing and do it well.
Linux is going to zero when they turn off the internet
You're too nice, Matt. You could have just pointed him to one of Michael Saylor's long-form Bitcoin chats and let the guy figure it out from there.
I think I'm a glutton for punishment
That was really good. I’ve had similar debates with someone that’s academically really intelligent however I’m not as good as you Matthew. I enjoyed the intellectual banter between each other.
Any news on MSM in the western world , should be taken with a Bucket of Salt 🧂 😊
Once, again, thank you, Matthew!
Scientists have become the new priestly caste in our post religious world. He talks like scientists are infallible
Yes, true. Most people who have been saying "trust the science" don't even understand what the scientific method is
And just like after the Reformation, this new priestly caste has lost all its authority.

Im guilty. The truth be known I am still scared sometimes. But I would would rather be wrong for this cause than right for the current ship-show
Academia worship goes hand to hand with institution worship which causes cognitive dissonance when trying to understand Bitcoin.
As always a great resource of concentrated knowledge, hence well deserved the channel name ‼️❤
I absolutely love that video !!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The misinformation machine is working overtime these days. My nephew spits out misinformation like he’s talking the absolute truth and I have to call him out on it all the time. I tell him he needs to have at least 3 legitimate references bare minimum.
Tnx MC

Thx Matthew
Absolutely awsome Matt
I love you humor. Great show.
In my mind I am visualizing that @spiralizing is Gary Gensler just furiously typing keys with Elizabeth Warren telling him what to type 😂
Be right or be wrong. It makes a difference for all of us. If you have nothing to say you make no difference at all. I like that this guy is steel man for the matrix. Helped me feel better about taking the orange pill.
Great points - at the same time, the mindset change is so significant, makes it difficult for people to accept. Even when acknowledged, can take years to fully get on board. Wonder if there ia messaging to lessen the initial shock? It's also surprising how long the issues that spawned BTC have been publically discussed - e.g. Henry Ford quote on the backing industry.
Keep up the awesome work Matt
Thank you
People who think published science is some godly unbiased pure form of information need their bubble popped
Good arguments
You have an unbelievable amount of patience
Grateful to have people like you defending the revolution.
Loved it
to be honest, i would never ever waste one prescious second of my life into such a conversation at all
You're smarter than me
Instead I think it was worth it for Matt spending the time, or we all would have missed the opportunity to see this great video. Furthermore, the long back and forth in that chat is a testament of Matt's attitude to respond to all challenges presented to him. Great job Matt!
To be fair, there is a possibility that he might drop some of his obstinate opposition, and continue to do BTC research. Eventually, given enough research, a 'eureka' moment could occur.
@@redriderbbgun8018 unlikely! i wouldn't bet a nickel on that.....
Great Channel!
Intrinsic value: *_Integrity_* ... of Issuance, Accounting and Communication.
Very valuable in these days of increasingly corrupt, politicised, ballooning USD.
He still is not ready to eat solid food.
Yes, I’ve encountered this a lot. I believe this to be a cognitive dissonance issue as you mentioned, where someone who had heard about bitcoin a while ago, but didn’t buy it sees the price currently at 60,000 and Phill are late to the game so they psychologically deal with it by convincing themselves. It’s going to zero.
Matthew, would you consider doing a video soon about getting another citizenship? Much of your audience is based in the US and, if Bitcoin hits $1M in the next 5 years, many of these folks will become subject to the exit tax. It seems like it’s prudent to begin preparing ASAP so that people can decide what’s best for them and “go where they’re treated best”. This video could touch on Bitcoin citadels or even be part of a mini series exploring moving to alternative countries or Bitcoin frontiers
I always enjoy a good debate especially when they're good arguments to be made on both sides; however, not in this case! You take this one Matt, can't say I'm surprised
holy balls batman! there's some unique individuals on this planet.. keep up the good work Matt! we love you!
I used to think a lot like this person you were having this debate with. Perhaps many of us did. I realize now that I was being intellectually lazy, and rigidly holding onto safe talking points that made me “feel” smart, without having done any real critical thinking or analysis. Thankfully, I had my Bitcoin epiphany about 3 years ago, I’ve been stacking sats ever since.
Now that was a good video, I did enjoy it. some people have nothing better to do than harass others. Keep up the good work Matthew!
There are those how understand the world and those who don't. 2 kinds of personalities, those who wants the best for reality and those who are just trying to make the image of the reality the best.
Thanks for taking the time to explain these things to this person, imo they seemed genuinely curious and no problem playing devils advocate push back is always good
This was a good documented debate as the points arose to clear up confusion & folly. Let's go brand... er sorry.. BTCU!!
I love the derangement synrome episodes. My heart goes out to those guys because I was there. "bad money chases out good money". Save bitcoin, spend cash.
The amount of ignorance out there. I have highly intelligent and well educated friends who have a cognitive bias on BTC. I will start recommending your channel to them. Hopefully your content will be able to save them from the Fiat matrix. Appreciate your work!! Best regards from Peru 🇵🇪
Also if you ever come to the Cusco area; I would be happy to meet you and show you around. You are always welcome.
Cheers,
Matthew bringing the 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Great vdo.
Both entertaining and educational....I'm always amazed at how when those with above-average IQ (like Spiralizing) use their intelligence to hawk closed-minded opinions and illogic. Thanks much, Matt...
Most Bitcoin haters are bitter folks who think they've missed out and won't bother to learn and better their finances. There's a word for them - Poor.
it's called the saltiness index
Agreed
"We call them poor." - Michael Saylor.
There's that, but there's more going on. I think they are Stockholm Syndrome statists who are afraid of being free.
I was also late to the party. However I am reminded of something. Ever go to back of the line and stand there and then look ahead and still think you are at the back of the line and then look back and see you are well into the middle of it. The early adopters took the risk , and did a lot of the work. They deserve it.
good video Matt
Thank you
What lightening wallet do you use now that Phoenix is out? Why is it so hard to find any businesses in my area that accept Bitcoin? It’d be nice if there was an app that just converted Bitcoin on the lightening network to USD instantaneously at the point of transaction so I could just treat it like a checking account that stores small amounts of BTC but could be accepted everywhere.
Some people just CANNOT accept when they're wrong. Regardless of evidence shown to them. It's a shame. I suppose it's human nature. Keep up the good work, Matt!
Good info - the guy in the last part screaming about Bitcion going to zero because he knows who Satoshi really is (maybe he confused Satoshi with Vatalik) I thought was recent when it was sent to me, turns out it was 5 years ago lol. Great timing to see this.
Thanks for going through an informative debate that you clearly won, as he didn't really give facts, just opinion. "A person convinced against his will is of the same opinion still."
Good entertainment
Thanks
I work with people like that. It has been 8+ years and they still have not put in honest study time. Can't save everyone.

Hey Mat Thank you for your show. Did you tell us not to custody BTC from Strike to our cold storage? Thanks
This is just sad to watch. If he reads science he should probably read history to know how fiat currencies end.
Great point
I don't have time to explain it anymore. Good luck to them.
I've been to El Salvador and bitcoin is quite commonly used. -- particularly by large national vendors. Sure -- in your local bar in San Salvador, you might not be able to use it, but in many many places you can. And this was well over a year ago, while bitcoin was in free fall. Adoption is likely higher as it always increases with price.
Sad that people should spend so much energy hating something that they don’t understand. Shouldn’t they either completely ignore it or do some honest reading and researching?
He's waiting for "the scientists" to do the work for him
This is so true. I can't stand award shows, but have never tried to stop people from watching them :)
They should really have the world's greatest meme awards. I bet the video posted at the end would be number 1
Unfortunately, everyone completely misunderstood the "old, senile man" - what he wanted to say was: "Everything is going to zerooo compared to Bitcoin"
Matt, curious your thoughts on looking at the bitcoin price on the log-log chart and if bitcoin follows the power law.
Hello Matt,
Thanks for sharing all the information. question what is the cheapest way to purchase bitcoin? for small amounts of $150? in my case it is euro but to make it easy dollar. and I know you are not a fan of silver, but silver could easily become worth a lot because it is used in industry (solar panels), because it is the best conductor in electronics and the silver price has been suppressed for more than 50 years. and it seems that there is actually less silver than gold, but i agree with you that bitcoin is the best thing that has been invented that most people are not aware of. Greetings from Holland.
I would love to have a "going to zero" with the bitcoin logo set behind
