Love rhe deer hunting stories. I've been a whitetail fanatic since 12 yrs old, that was 50 yrs ago! Still love them big bucks and still hunt them, thanks to God! Such a feeling of accomplishment to go after and get a specific buck. No feeling in the world like it. Carry on my friend and keep in touch with ole Zeus!!!!!
God, I LOVE THIS channel! One year ago my only son, Robert, named his first son Hunter Francis. Today is the first time I've missed opening day of rifle season in over 35 yrs. (because of my beloved Dana's still in ICU.) I found this channel because I love to hunt!
Thank you for sharing. Loved the stories. I am a whitetail bow hunter from Ohio. I had 6 doe underneath me last night just after last light. Go figure. But I had the pleasure of taking a brand new bow hunter with me. He is now hooked. Hunting is an amazing experience.
I probably never would have gone into the mountains and tried for blacktail had I not started watching Steve's blacktail videos. It took two years, but was finally rewarded this season. Still hunting is absolutely addicting, but also feels like a cruel puzzle at times. Cant wait for next year. Im jealous you get to hunt the rut for so long and get two tags in BC!
The decades of experience and the tens of thousands of hours necessary to become a true expert at this craft can not be overstated. For those who haven't recognized what is obvious to the hunters who view this channel,,, Steve is a true hunters hunter,,, a master at his craft.
Steve I can't tell you just how much I enjoy yer stories of yer INCREDIBLY cool encounters in the Wilds of British Columbia! Bein from Michigan and 57 yrs young with blown-out knees I'll never be able to experience such Dream Hunts but watchin you do it is just Flat-Out BAD-ASS! God Bless you and yours bud! Oh, by the way how's that Lovely Assistant Sarah doin?!
Steve man this stuff that you have put out about blacktail deer is AWESOME!!! Please put out more hunt stories and everything blacktail I could listen to these stories all day long!!
I’m am glad you shared this Steve, I love hunting but I live in the eastern part of the country, Tennessee so we hunt whitetail, but I was able to get my biggest buck ever on October 1st, big 10 point. I would love to hunt Blacktail, Mule deer, and Elk, but for now I am happy hunting whitetails.
Steve, I have to tell you that when I started watching you it was before you spoke of Bigfoot’s. I am not a hunter but I hunt vicariously through you and your stories. I’m not sure that I would have the right stuff to be a hunter but that’s okay, I’ll leave it up to the professionals and the serious hunters. I love all of your stories, keep them coming.
I love that story! I'm hoping to get the blacktail iv'e been after for a couple years later this week. late rifle season opens for 4 days this week. Good luck Steve on your quest for Zeus!
Steve, I'm opposite of most of the your early subscribers, I guess, as I started watching to hear your stories of "those damn beings" yet hung around to enjoy the hunting stories, too. I've only hunted waterfowl, but really enjoy hearing of your game trips... Keep on doing both, brother. If someone doesn't like one or the other, they are certainly free to not watch. Keep your head on a swivel.
It’s hard letting a Buck mature and being able to get him.But it is why it’s called hunting. Nice Buck and hopefully you get One you are looking for. Thanks for sharing
Welcome to the community ;-) if you go to Steve's home page and then the video library , you'll find a lot ! of great stories to catch up on , best regards from Montreal Canada ;-)

As I'm watching this video, a doe and a 6 pointer wandered through the more wooded part of my back yard, LOL! I'll be up in my tree stand in a few hours there.
Great story! Back in 1977 high school “yah been awhile” my friend shot a blacktail after field dressing weight 254. He was huge. Made the Everett Herald with picture. He was so proud he drove around with it on his truck, meat spoiled 😫 it was western Washington in a spot where we were told that so of the blacktail crossed with mule deer. Have you ever heard of that? Love the channel
H I from Australia Steve you are awesome I love the outdoors and everything you are about !! Its so hard not to think about it when you know its real and out there !!Much love Steve
Steve you have some incredible video's of the Blacktail ! Knowledge and experience many can only wish for ! Anybody out there thinks it's easy to hunt that species should give it a try ! When you put in the Time, the rewards come and the Memories are Large ! Take Care and Thanks for Sharing ! Hard not to be in envy ... Smiles !
Awesome video buddy... I have a lot of memories of hunting here in Georgia... I’ve hunted since I was 8 years old by myself I’m 57 now but I spend 60 to 70 hours a week working’ I kinda got in a groove where that’s all I do is work... I gotta slow down I’m wasting my life away not doing what makes me happy... that looks like a awesome place there where you’re at.... thanks for your videos buddy.....
Great Video Steve, I've been trying to chase a buck in the over hunted woods of the Coast Range of Oregon, everyone around here hunts clear cuts but I have yet to have any success. The Blacktails here are non existent due to poor management and lots of city folks coming into the woods and killing off all the bucks. Despite this your vids are encouraging and I hope that I can be successful soon, Good Luck Steve and Thanks for these Black Tail Videos, Many people like me would love to learn as much as we can about this magnificent creatures!
Steve ,,, By Far you are TheBest Hunter on the Planet. I’ve been Watching your Videos for Years. I Really wish I Could Come up and Do a Week Long Hunting Trip with you. Your a Wealth of Knowledge. Stay safe and Keep the Videos Coming. 👍
Awesome... Great thank you. Have a safe and plentiful day of what you love most my friend. I've friends up outside Prince George telling me today they have enough snow for now! Can't keep the yard where all their rental equipment clear enough to move machinery out and in. Stay safe.
Thanks once again Steve, beautiful looking area just like you say. You inspire me alot .im an avid hunter, fishermen in Michigan. Im going to make it a goal to get into an area like yours and hunt a hunt like that. Thanks again for always keeping it real .
"Two deer a year"...There's a song in there. Btw Steve. Smooth move with the coffee. Wish I was there at that moment...fuc.. If a Wolverine can blaze through the deep snow, whats to keep a bear of any kind away from a hibernation den when they can smell food...why sleep?
Good day Mr. Steve !! - You are the man of the decade, but probably do not know it. !! 😉 👍 I am a patriotic American, and I love your channel !! -Someday, soon I will tell you "our story", IF you know what I mean ! It was my father, my sister, her highschool girl friend, and myself.🐒 -Have a great day SIR, WE ADMIRE YOU. I WISH WE HAD PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN OUR LEADERSHIP, ACROSS THE BOARD ! 😁 🇺🇲 -Portland, OR
Wow, what a tank! Thanks for the great story, Steve and the best of luck to you this Fall as well, I think Zues' head best be on a swivel with you after him! When I was 18 and in good shape (53 and disabled now but still hunt) I was after a "Walter" of a Moose here in Alberta, out past Cynthia. I'd seen him a couple times and thought I had him tacked down in a small red willow swamp. I crossed in downwind and behind him to less than 50 yrds and was getting ready to take my shot when he suddenly dropped in front of me! My first thought was another hunter but I hadn't heard or even seen another hunter out there at the time. Walter then did something I've never watched another Moose or ungulate of any species do, he crawled dragging his belly across an open cut line and then up into the timber and out of view. I sat there with my jaw on the floor, he never gave me a decent shot that day, and I didn't see him again for the following 4 years. When they began to log the area it screwed up the game, much like what happened to you, luckily I had moved to a locale a bit further west and north to hunt in by then, but I do often wonder what got into that silly old Moose to drop down and crawl like that, I'm reasonably sure he didn't know I was there, and he was by far the biggest Moose in that area. Sad to say my .303 British didn't bark that day.
I see a How to Hunt notification and I click like...and I live in Northern Ireland and have never hunted in my life! I did shoot a rabbit once but that was pest control
Derek, even stocking after that incessant "hippidy hop", and when out of breadth you placed that shot, you fulfilled that primal instinct of providing meat to those in your household! Your woman hopefully looked up to you and said something like "Oh Derek dear, don't feel bad that it was just a wabbit, and not something bigger on hoof. Besides you can cut off it's paw, hang it around your neck and have it bring you 'good luck' ; the rest we can have in a stew with a few potatoes. With the fur you can make a mitten and just make do"! But the deed was done and you can be proud not to be a vegetarian and just peel beets and turnips!
You should see our Jack Rabbits here in Canada mate! The size of wallabies! Well... Maybe not that big..close mind you. Have a beautie day over there! Maybe it's night time there. I don't know..I'm not a weather man lol!
Great video Steve!!..do you have shoulder mounts and /or European mounts of those bad boys!..would love a video of your collection..lol..keep after em..
Awesome. Steve you carry a rope on the pack frame, should try and drag it down hill in the snow. The excitment of the Hunt,...maybe have a check list on what you will be takeing as to not forgetting anything. It may sound stupid but why do pilots do it ?
I haven't hunted deer in decades but I have several of those stories about the GIANT that got away. Unfortunately, when I was hunting them, there was no such thing as digital recording of anything and lugging a 35mm camera around a hunt wasn't something most hunters even considered back in the 1980's. So, all I'm left with are the memories and the stories...and I'm sure they've all grown a little larger over the years. Someday I'll tell you about the 22pt. that got away. HAHAHA!
Nothing like harvesting one a them big ole mature Blacktails. Not an easy task at all and to do it consistently says alot about the hunter. Love those big mature forked horns. Hard to pass them up for sure.
I really like your deer hunting stories and I love to hun I live in GA, USA I love to see the footage and the scenery I will never get to go Wish I would have made a move when I was young. I am sure you know the best hunting gear to have because of where you hunt I heard you say you had a 300 short mag rifle Would you mind telling me what make it is and what kind of scope do you use? Thanks Steve, i know these videos are hard work but I love to watch them, be careful out there, Thanks
Howdy Steve could you do a video on your cold weather gear here in New Hampshire it's hard to find good cold weather gear or predator calls i hunt dogs all winter it would help Thanks for all you do Cory
Do the bears come to shots like a dinner bell ? Hunting coastal black tails in Alaska in places they do ,the one time I went we didn’t even gut it , we got it in the skiff and gutted it on the boat
Yes, Jerry, this happens a lot up in the interior. An old Alaskan here, we've all heard the true stories of those bears coming to a kill before you can even get your Moose/Caribou field dressed and back to your vehicle.
That is awesome! I hunt both mule and black tail here in Eastern Oregon! I have a question for you. Have you ever heard of or seen Mule deer crossed with a black tail? My father shot a buck that had characteristics of both! It was different!
I have to say when I comes to the deer species periods. Whether it's blacktails, whitetails, or mule deer. They are just an incredible species that can survive and out smart the best hunters and predators there are. My trophy deer kills are because the deer made a mistake or slip up. There is just something about hunting deer that gets my blood pumping.
Did he change the thumbnail of the video? I saw It in my suscriptions and decided to watch the video tomorrow. Dont know why but the thumbnail looks different
Is it just me or has anyone noticed the black face of a wolf in the thumbnail of this video ? I'm not claiming it to be a real wolf it's only a play on the back ground of the picture but still kinda cool. Great video Steve 🙏
Didn't go 20! Ha. Give a man a deer, feed him for week. Teach a man to hunt, his wife won't see him much! Ha. Steve, don't get into trouble announcing you skipped out of work to hunt! Lol.
It was really cool to hear you say that you'll wait until a bucks full potential has been reached before harvesting.
God, I LOVE THIS channel! One year ago my only son, Robert, named his first son Hunter Francis. Today is the first time I've missed opening day of rifle season in over 35 yrs. (because of my beloved Dana's still in ICU.) I found this channel because I love to hunt!

Great video Steve. Brings back memories of what I absolutely lived and loved to do .
about 15 years ago my brother said, no more mounts, except if they are larger than what I have. 12 larger bucks later.
It’s hard letting a Buck mature and being able to get him.But it is why it’s called hunting. Nice Buck and hopefully you get One you are looking for. Thanks for sharing

I see a How to Hunt notification and I click like...and I live in Northern Ireland and have never hunted in my life! I did shoot a rabbit once but that was pest control
lol
Derek fried rabbit can't get any better
Derek McManus should have shot a prod and did Ireland a favour.

Awesome. Steve you carry a rope on the pack frame, should try and drag it down hill in the snow. The excitment of the Hunt,...maybe have a check list on what you will be takeing as to not forgetting anything. It may sound stupid but why do pilots do it ?

Do the bears come to shots like a dinner bell ? Hunting coastal black tails in Alaska in places they do ,the one time I went we didn’t even gut it , we got it in the skiff and gutted it on the boat
Yes, Jerry, this happens a lot up in the interior. An old Alaskan here, we've all heard the true stories of those bears coming to a kill before you can even get your Moose/Caribou field dressed and back to your vehicle.
Are blacktails just a small sub species of Mule deer? They look like Julie's with smaller ears and bodies as a whole.
Good luck finding Zeus, hope you get another crack at him with the 300
That is awesome! I hunt both mule and black tail here in Eastern Oregon! I have a question for you. Have you ever heard of or seen Mule deer crossed with a black tail? My father shot a buck that had characteristics of both! It was different!
I have read that genetic analysis says that mule deer are a cross of black tail & white tail.
Love the hunting vids and stories
Master hunter! Master storyteller!
On the thumbnail of this video, is there a wolf or bear superimposed on it?
Next the final chapter on Zeus.
Looks like a huge black wolf in pic at the start of it .take a close look.
Yeah in the thumbnail. Good eye.
Did the bear break into where the meat was hung?
Didn't go 20! Ha. Give a man a deer, feed him for week. Teach a man to hunt, his wife won't see him much! Ha. Steve, don't get into trouble announcing you skipped out of work to hunt! Lol.
Rut Daniels, he’s the man!
Didn’t go.... 20.
