Kay's Call = Definition of Awesomeness
“GET YA TOKENS READY, YOU MIGHT BE BOARDING THE SUBWAY!” is such a classic call.
It's ridiculous how many unbelievable moments at Yankee stadium occurred between 95 and 03. And they're all on youtube for us to enjoy
So many that aren't on youtube
David Justice was one of the best clutch hitters in post season history. Look what he also did for Atlanta and Cleveland.
MANCHESTER UNITED Baseball>Soccer
One of the best moves of Cashman’s career
David Justice didn't necessarily hit for a high average in postseason, but he was undoubtedly clutch. He got his hits in postseason at the most opportune times.
@@GeorgeLuzbet in weird way, it was almost comforting going into a big game knowing Justice was slumping..... especially when the media blew up his remarks about the fans, when he struggled into that game 6.
You absolutely knew he was showing up big that night..... honestly, I never enjoyed watching someone hit half as much as him.
@M NOBODY CARES, BUTTPLUG.
what a call by Kay!
asstcommish he always give me goose bumps
Excellent
I think it’s his best call!!
I was in the upper deck for this game. I swore that the whole thing was going to collapse when this ball went out. Old Yankees Stadium electricity at it's finest.
I was also at this game and I thought the same thing the stadium shook that night dam I miss the old place
I was there on third base line with both my parents! The place was electric. The ball got out in a flash!!
Goddamn do I miss that Old Yankee Stadium roar. I went to two playoff games there in 2005 and 2007. Place was deafening at times
You keep harassing my little sister. You may push around, abuse & hate your little sister but don't think you can treat other little girls the same because unlike you their are bug brothers who actually care about their sisters
nigga this was 2 years ago why you commenting on a comment from 2 years ago, are you fucking stupid
Victor Joseph Mercado What the Fuck are you talking about?
Spot on. The new stadium just doesn't have the same sound. It's also located on the wrong side of the street. First time I went to the new stadium, I felt like I was on an alien planet.
tony palombini jr
Yeah agreed & they had real fans & not the 1s we have today.
The Yankees can win many titles in the new Yankee Stadium, but the atmosphere inside the original Yankee Stadium is much more deafening than the new one.
thats because real fans cant afford going there anymore
It’s back
It’s the way they build stadiums now. No more overhangs. The sound doesn’t get trapped in like it used to
@@TL2354 well that's cause they can't build stadiums like that anymore
Its back to being loud. It wasn't the stadium, it was the fans and how boring and old the yankees were from 2009-2016
This gave me chills... Good old nostalgia
David Justice went to seven World Series in his career, winning two of them. In each time he won (1995 with the Atlanta Braves, 2000 with the New York Yankees) he hit a big home run in the postseason. The clincher against Cleveland in Game 6 and this one. What a career, what a moment, and what a great Yankee team.
I was in full Yankees gear in a Seattle bar when he did this. I yelled justice was served. Lmao
Very underrated moment in yankee history
I was at this game when I was 10 years old with my dad. I still remember this moment vividly and the ensuing beer shower. Legendary
old stadium was the best
The good ol' days! Just look at that place shake.
Xavier Ramos old stadium was the loudest this new one sucks
The Mets clinched the night before. They "wanted the Yankees", they "wanted" the subway series, talking all tough saying that they would beat the Yankees. Deep down, however, they were praying that the Mariners would somehow find a way to win, and all of queens got a very sick feeling in their stomachs when Justice hit this bomb deep into the Bronx night. The Mets fan certainly got what they "wanted".
Antwon Jenkins I'm a die hard Mets fan and I really didn't care who we played, and the Yankees barely edging the Mets in each of their victories in that world series isn't exactly impressive.
lou Albino they won in five. Lol. Really? It was terribly one sided. Not to mention, piazza almost got his ass kicked.
Arod's last game with the Mariners.
Bar none the most exciting moment I've ever been apart of at a live sporting event. I was sitting in section 36 & remember vividly watching the ball majestically soar into the upper deck on the opposite end of the field.
The pandemonium that ensued when he made contact was exciting beyond words. The deafening crowd, the upper deck shaking up & down to the point you felt like it was going to collapse, the beer sloshing in every direction.
Certainly my most cherished memory in the greatest venue that will ever be.
Thanks for loading MLB!
WHAT A SWEET SWING!!!!
Definitely top in person baseball moment of my life. The stadium was shaking, everyone in attendance was jumping up and down.
What a fantastic call by Kay!! Might be my favorite of his!!
I miss this so much. The build up to the series, and the series itself was probably the pinnacle of NY baseball.
Omgosh I've been waiting for this to be uploaded!
So good, it gives me chills!
What a moment and what a call, just friggen awesome
Excellent Call by Michael Kay. 0:01
0:02
The 90s-2000s Yankees were honestly the most exciting team ever. I only got to watch them once in 2008 at the old Stadium, but it was so magical.
He was so wretched in 2001 but in 2000, for half a season, he was the spark that led them to the threepeat (along with Jeter, of course).
The ghosts of old Yankee stadium 👏🏽
NY Yankees forever. NY NY.
I was at this game in the coca cola section. The best freaking game ever.
We started chanting *WE WANT THE METS!* immediately
As soon as we seen Arthur Roads come in we knew what would ensue
I was there. Never heard the old stadium as loud as this
Good lord the amount of unbelievable moments from 96-01 for these Yanks. Just mind boggling.
I remember this so well like it was yesterday. Funny thing is, I actually fell asleep early during this game (I think it was late 1st inning?) because I was tired from one of those really long boring days at school. And literally maybe 10-15 seconds after I woke up...BAM! I was like "whoa what the hell" lol.
+Need4speedZR1 Haha, good stuff
I was at this game.. one of the best moments as a Yankees fan for me
That Old Yankee Stadium... by the way... time flies.... Damm
Yankees back in 2000 were something else
You have to love the fan calling the shot behind home plate
magic. year in year out
Same pitch he hit out in the 95 WS against Jim Poole and also lefty vs lefty.
EPIC!!!!
this one still hurts
Go Ms
I was at this game and it was one of the loudest times I've ever heard the stadium. I thought the floor was going to give out, everything was moving.
I remember being at this game...seems like yesterday.
Maaann, a young Michael Kay!
I love the way he looked at the bench after he demolished that pitch.
That was impressive
David was my favorite player when he was a brave to see him with pin stripes kinda hurts, but he was mr clutch
Out of all the postseason games during the Yankees late 90s-early 2000s dynasty, this one might have been the most electrifying. Especially with the Subway Series within the city’s grasp. Once Justice hit this homer, we all knew it was happening.
That and getting revenge on Seattle for 95
This was the very moment that I jumped so high that I hit my head on the ceiling fan, and my Yankee cap flew off my head and landed in my plate of spaghetti. The normally white logo turned red. Good times.
Before Obama, there was the "yes we can" sign in the Yankee Stadium stands.
Back when the Yankees didn't have many stars and were winning more titles
Thats the reason they wont win it this year. Baseball cant be bought as NBA
winning a title is built thru development not store bought
Yep now they overpay bums like jacoby ellsbury, giambi, kei igawa, and who else
cangri1788 agree 100000000% many titles with development
+SportsFreak - Considering whom most of the best players right now, you got your wish, as well as some they got from the Cubs. To be honest I was POed when some certain trades were made in 2016 since it came off as a white flag deadline by Cashman, just that I was willing to give him a benefit of doubt since there are some of the top prospects the Cubs and the Indians have gave the team. Here's hoping Frazier will be given more playing time later on.
holy shit look at that crowd
Everyone over at ESPN.com bashes Cashman but he has made amazing mid-season pickups. Just check out Justice's numbers with NY in 2000. Yea, he had a terrible 2001 World Series but most of the team did. In 2000 he carried the team for two months.
Justice was pure clutch in the postseason, especially in 95 with the braves, with the Indians in 97-98, and the Yankees in 2000.
ESPN are the biggest Yankee haters.
Justice Loves To Bash Opponents In 2000 When He Is Given The Spotlight To Do So
If some of the prospects he brought in from 2016 pans out, it'd be great. Clint Frazier should be an upgrade over Ellsbury at least.
Was there great game and saw subway series
That Yankees team only had 87 regular season wins, but they won their division and showed their true postseason greatness when they came up play in the postseason. Yankees are ALWAYS a dangerous team to play even when they have 87 wins.
***** And what's funny is the Yankees backed into the playoffs that year, losing 15 of their final 18 games. So the Yanks were definitely a lot better than those 87 wins suggested. And the late season swoon wound up simply being an aberration, and they turned it on in the postseason.
+jbobbster ehh, wouldn't say they turned it on, barry zito was brilliant except for one mistake in that game(8ip 1er 6k) yanks barely snuck by oakland and went 6 games with seattle, but they absolutely turned it on vs. the mets
That Yankee team wasn’t great. They were just great when they had to be
Justice was so money when they picked him up that season
I miss the old stadium the new one is a joke
agreed
ditto. it doesn't have the energy the old one had.
***** What they should have done was keep the Old Stadium intact but refurbish it and turn it into a Yankees museum and have college baseball played inside it as well as build the new one... Kinda like what the Maple Leafs did with Maple Leaf Gardens, close it down and refurbish it now they use it for college hockey and have retail space inside it as well etc. Yankee Stadium should still be standing today
The new stadium is part of the sport morphing into corporate product. Today's ballparks are shopping malls with a baseball diamond attached.
I feel the same way about Shea Stadium.
It felt like revenge was complete. In 1995, Lou Pinella’s Mariners dealt the Yankees a devastating loss in the first ever ALDS. Five years later, with the AL Pennant and a trip to the World Series on the line, a blast from David Justice sealed the Mariners’ fate and sent the Yankees to their third straight World Series for a chance to three-peat. It was the perfect payback by the Yankees.
Always bittersweet for me watching the dejection on Lou's face after all the battles he fought for us over the years prior. He was the original "warrior" as far as I'm concerned before O'Neill earned the moniker. Same kind of honest, hard nosed, take no prisoners approach to the game. Played it the way it was meant to be played.....
I need someone to find my a separate audio clip of That home run siren. You can also hear it on Tinos 2001 World Series HR
Tony Anello It was way too loud in there to hear it. There is a better clip of it of Canseco hitting his first HR as a Yankee.
David justice el mejor de la postemporada
Not a fan of Kay but when he was on the radio he had some great calls...like this one and the Tino Grand slam
Before Metrocards
Upload the whole game
David justice always on a winning team lmao , he never missed the playoffs
I would do ANYTHING to get the new stadium to sound like the old one...maybe the emergence of a new dynasty will be the key.
Here's hoping the prospects Cashman got in 2016 would pan out. I think Frazier has the best shot to do so, just hope he stays healthy next season so he can develop.
Dam 17 years ago
I was there that night. I thought the stadium was going to fall down.
Nothing beats the electricity from the old stadium.
Back when the yankees could do nothing but win
This year's team is like watching slow death. They are old dull and boring. Even when they win
Thomas Storff couldnt agree more. even when they win, their so boring
It's boring because we have to wait every five days to win because are offense can't score any runs
rhodes always chokes to the yankees
Incredible, he's part of so many Yankee highlight reels :)
As I said above....ARTHUR GAS CAN
michael kays best call easily
The pitch that had Mariners fans comparing Arthur roads to Bobby Ayala.
Some of that shit flying from the upper deck is mine. My pretzel and it's wrapper went over the edge of the upper deck during the excitement.
I have to admit, while I did enjoyed all those times Arthur Rhodes gets owned by the Yankees, I was actually happy for the guy when the Cardinals won in 2011, even if he likely would have gotten a ring no matter who won as he was in a rare position due to playing for the Rangers earlier that season. Still, better to win it with the team you're on rather than you were on, otherwise it'd be kind of awkward like it was for Bengie Molina a year before.
I'm a Mets fan, and maybe my favorite Michael Kay call..."GET YOUR TOKENS READY", oh and what's Arthur Rhodes postseason ERA against the Yankees...like 58?
My brother calls him Arthur GAS CAN
Back when the Yankees were a great team.
Arthur Rhodes blew like every single game against Yankees when he was with the Mariners in the postseason.
Orioles too
Everytime I feel a little emphaty for Seattle and their fans for my Yankees for beating them in 2000 and esp 2001 (because they haven’t made the playoffs since) I remember Griffey cutting the corner at 3rd base in 1995 and go, revenge is sweet.
As a Mariners fan this play made me so sad. Thought for sure the Mariners were winning and forcing a game 7.
This may have been the loudest homer ever hit at Yankee Stadium
Mike Rodriguez
I certainly remember the Tino homer, can tell you exactly where I was sitting that very moment. Tough to compare the 2 as to which is louder. I do remember Michael Kay though saying not too long ago that the Justice homer was probably the loudest he'd ever heard the stadium. Just think that this homer all but meant that we were getting a subway series here. the Mets had already clinched their series.
No way. Don Mattingly's homer in '95 was louder. The crowd was so nuts Pinella had to pull his team off the field.
Derek70388
tough to compare the 2
Matinglys first postseason home run vs mariners in 95
:'( why cant my Mariners ever win ugh...
I always thought Michael Kay was irritating, but I think any fan base would be lucky to have him as their announcer.
irritating? I honestly think he's the best announcer. I'm gonna go as far as saying he's better than Joe Buck, because Kay shows emotions in his voice. Buck i feel as though he's there for the check.
every announcer is better than buck. he's monotone and as boring as it gets.
The upper deck was bouncing up and down!!!
oooooooOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo ooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo
GREAT MOMENT I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE THERE. I WISH AFTER HEARING THIS THAT IT WAS STERLING'S INNING TO DO THE PLAY BY PLAY, KAY IS JUST AWFUL!
URGGGGG IM SO ANGRY WHY DID THEY BUILD A NEW STADUIM WE MADE HISTORY IN THE LAST WHY WHY MLB WHYYYY
0:02
Lol get your tokens ready…. The good ole days in nyc
And to think people thought the Yanks were going to get Sammy Sosa , and out of the blue they get the better bat in Justice
The Yankees could've brought up a Little Leaguer and Rhodes still would've gotten rocked. Didn't matter who it was on the Yankees. They were one team Rhodes could not do shit against.
Why are the flags half staffed?
9/11 happened less than 2 months before
ah ok i thought this was from 2000. thanks.
+Korey McNally It's from 2000 not 2001
lou piniella's face was oh crap bad pitch
What’s those sirens 🚨 in the stadium ? Was there a invasion in this country or a tornado warning ?
Rip Authur Rhodes yankees his daddy, always kills him lol
random but the guy (cant make out who it is) at 0:08 couldnt care less sitting on the bench with zero emotion. Guess he wasnt a justice fan lol
Indeed. Every time I see this clip (it never gets old!) I always wonder just who is that one guy in the dugout not caring, just chomping on his sunflower seeds or whatever.
I like the TV call better. Not of fan of Kay...Never have been, never will be.
Arthur Rhodes sucks against the Yankees lol
Michael Kay needs to shut up after a while. Let the electricity of the crowd do the talking. Pictures are worth a thousand words after all. We don't need your million words. 'Get your tokens ready...' should have been it.
This is the radio call. He wasn't calling TV games then, so there is no picture at this point. Bob Costas and Joe Morgan did the TV play-by-play.
Joe Buck just stays quiet and you guys bitch about him...Hur duuur hes boring
