David Justice went to seven World Series in his career, winning two of them. In each time he won (1995 with the Atlanta Braves, 2000 with the New York Yankees) he hit a big home run in the postseason. The clincher against Cleveland in Game 6 and this one. What a career, what a moment, and what a great Yankee team.

The Mets clinched the night before. They "wanted the Yankees", they "wanted" the subway series, talking all tough saying that they would beat the Yankees. Deep down, however, they were praying that the Mariners would somehow find a way to win, and all of queens got a very sick feeling in their stomachs when Justice hit this bomb deep into the Bronx night. The Mets fan certainly got what they "wanted".

Bar none the most exciting moment I've ever been apart of at a live sporting event. I was sitting in section 36 & remember vividly watching the ball majestically soar into the upper deck on the opposite end of the field.
The pandemonium that ensued when he made contact was exciting beyond words. The deafening crowd, the upper deck shaking up & down to the point you felt like it was going to collapse, the beer sloshing in every direction.
Certainly my most cherished memory in the greatest venue that will ever be.

To be honest I was POed when some certain trades were made in 2016 since it came off as a white flag deadline by Cashman, just that I was willing to give him a benefit of doubt since there are some of the top prospects the Cubs and the Indians have gave the team. ***** And what's funny is the Yankees backed into the playoffs that year, losing 15 of their final 18 games. So the Yanks were definitely a lot better than those 87 wins suggested. And the late season swoon wound up simply being an aberration, and they turned it on in the postseason.

It felt like revenge was complete. In 1995, Lou Pinella’s Mariners dealt the Yankees a devastating loss in the first ever ALDS. Five years later, with the AL Pennant and a trip to the World Series on the line, a blast from David Justice sealed the Mariners’ fate and sent the Yankees to their third straight World Series for a chance to three-peat. It was the perfect payback by the Yankees.

  • @billyfranklin85

Always bittersweet for me watching the dejection on Lou's face after all the battles he fought for us over the years prior. He was the original "warrior" as far as I'm concerned before O'Neill earned the moniker. Same kind of honest, hard nosed, take no prisoners approach to the game. Some of that shit flying from the upper deck is mine. My pretzel and it's wrapper went over the edge of the upper deck during the excitement.

I have to admit, while I did enjoyed all those times Arthur Rhodes gets owned by the Yankees, I was actually happy for the guy when the Cardinals won in 2011, even if he likely would have gotten a ring no matter who won as he was in a rare position due to playing for the Rangers earlier that season. Still, better to win it with the team you're on rather than you were on, otherwise it'd be kind of awkward like it was for Bengie Molina a year before.

I'm a Mets fan, and maybe my favorite Michael Kay call..."GET YOUR TOKENS READY", oh and what's Arthur Rhodes postseason ERA against the Yankees...like 58?
My brother calls him Arthur GAS CAN

Everytime I feel a little emphaty for Seattle and their fans for my Yankees for beating them in 2000 and esp 2001 (because they haven’t made the playoffs since) I remember Griffey cutting the corner at 3rd base in 1995 and go, revenge is sweet.

This may have been the loudest homer ever hit at Yankee Stadium

      Mike Rodriguez
I certainly remember the Tino homer, can tell you exactly where I was sitting that very moment. Tough to compare the 2 as to which is louder. I do remember Michael Kay though saying not too long ago that the Justice homer was probably the loudest he'd ever heard the stadium. Just think that this homer all but meant that we were getting a subway series here. the Mets had already clinched their series.

No way. Don Mattingly's homer in '95 was louder. The crowd was so nuts Pinella had to pull his team off the field.

irritating? I honestly think he's the best announcer. I'm gonna go as far as saying he's better than Joe Buck, because Kay shows emotions in his voice. Buck i feel as though he's there for the check.

Michael Kay needs to shut up after a while. Let the electricity of the crowd do the talking. Pictures are worth a thousand words after all. We don't need your million words. 'Get your tokens ready...' should have been it.
