Thanks for keeping us up dated on the rebuilding of western NC . I was in Bakersville Saturday. I took donations and cash over . We ate at bonnie and clydes came home up 292 to TN . Trucks everywhere. We didn’t try to go down 197 . You could nit get to toe cane for the trucks . I was amazed at the progress made over there but there is a hundred times more to do . Be back in week or two with propane fuel for the heaters . Everyone seamed up beat that i met and talked to . Stay strong . Stay mountains strong
This is really inspiring to see. I think about how this railroad was originally built, with pick and shovel, tie tongs and spike hammers, rail carts and scrapers hauled by horses, hand drills and single jacks and black powder to blast out the cuts and tunnels. Our modern equipment makes the work go faster and cuts down on the muscle power needed, but people still have to put in the time and effort to get it done.
Great drone footage, The re build has begun! Amazing to see everyone working together to get this mammoth job started. Helene did her worst that day. ❤
Great video, those guys are kicking a**. So good to see some kind of recovery from this terrible disaster happening, wish everyone could recover this fast. Thoughts and prayers.
You have captured here that Americans still know how to make railroads. This layering of rocks would make the ancient Chinese, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans proud. Well done.
Another fine production! Massive amount of money being spent to build a temporary bridge to access the far side without driving through the river. Noticed at the end that they’re assembling another mammoth crane, a Manitowoc this time! Probably gonna see big things happening to the main bridge soon! Love your vids, all except for the back and forth stuff! My pea sized brain can’t handle it! Lol Thanks again for documenting this for us, and for posterity! Future generations couldn’t appreciate the force of this storm, or the massive effort to rebuild!
Unlimited budget at work. Hopefully what the RR rebuilds will be a jump start to more recovery and rebuilding....at least with infrastructure, and employment. Prayers to all over there, so much loss.
As always, you do a superb job videoing this!! So interesting to watch them rebuild and it makes you feel better to see them rebuilding! I now know where all the gravel is going and why there is a shortage 🙃 It takes an army to rebuild that track and bridge! Great job as usual in capturing it!
@@designsinorbit Probably better wait because we just tried and were told gravel is out for the time being. I can understand it's needed everywhere. We have a huge mudhole in our emergency entrance/exit. Kind of glad it got below freezing again so it's not soupy!
Thank you for sharing this footage of the rebuilding of this railroad. I cannt remember if this has ever happened to the Clinchfield. in North Carolina. Look forward to more video of the progress.
it is to bad it took a Henrician to get the local economy going so robust . The trucking company's the excavator owner/operator and yes the railroad suppliers be it rails , ties or management of construction. And then there is the roll of of the lunch foods , porta Potts and gasoline , diesel . Hoping all goes "AS BUILT" plan allows and yes their are KARENS out there , the fish are out of sorts , the Kayakers can't use the river as before ....waa waa , wait till the build is done then build the rivercourse as needed
@@designsinorbit I just heard there a cold front coming maybe it's Christmas week and not next week. Anyway, stay warm and be careful. There's enough heartbreak in those mountains right now.
I assume this is just a quick fix temporary bridge to get rail service back up quickly...a bridge that will eventually be replaced by a better designed, more permanent and more durable bridge with proper concrete portals. This all looks kind of Mickey Mouse...the stacked welded steel I beam cribbing to gain elevation on top the makeshift modifications to the old original shorter masonry portals below?
Gotta wonder what's up with those trucks in the 1st 3 minutes. Looks like someone is being taken advantage of, because those trucks are only about 1/4 full. Likely billing by the ticket rather than the ton. Please stay with producing these great videos. I've seem to become addicted to them!
Great video- I enjoy this kind of work but hate the reason this had to be done. With this much equipment and good coordination a lot of work is getting done quickly.
I'm no engineer and I don't understand the bridge supports. All those crossed steel beams sitting on a steel box looks strong enough, but that is all sitting on a timber base in the river bed. How does that work?
Man it's tough driving around here with all the dump trucks. Roads are tight as it is and missing entirely in spots. There are also fleets of debris dump trucks.
I seen the dump trucks last Sunday out in Candler N.C and I am assuming it was all of these people in their dump trucks they was loading at the rock quarry 😊
@@shinbone4200 Just maybe the engineers are having to adjust the route of the grade and location of the new bridge, due to the river changing the landscape during the storm. As it appears to me the new bridge will be upgraded and hopefully withstand flooding in the future.
Im I the only one to notice the trucks are at most half loaded, some not even 1/4... I work road building for overc40 years and looks like not only the government screwing the people but now the contrators are, pay by the load or hour thats screwing the tax payers over.... Shame on y'all... SOBs.. and don't say the roads can't handle hevey loads..😡🤬🥵
this makes 6 videos of north carolina and virginia rebuilding shtt, and watching the details annd actions of each person.... and I don't think a single person in any of these videos knows what the hell they are doing, and if they are acting like they know, they are screwing around. The cleanup would be done if these people cared about their cities and towns.
Please provide evidence to prove "they don't know what they are doing." Are you an engineer? A construction manager? You don't know a single one of the people doing this incredible work, yet you claim that they don't care. What a fool.
Your skills at editing the drone footage is pro level. Love your choices of music too.
Thanks Bruce!
I agree with Bruce 193!
The kid in me loves watching these big trucks move earth like I did with my matchbox cars & trucks as a kid ❤
Can't get enough! Great job guys and gals!!!
Fascinating project documentation💚

Oops came home 226 not 292 . Came up through Buladean. That valley was spared the flooding thank god

At some point the environmentalists have to be told to sit this one out folks. People before river rocks.

Wow that bridge 🌉 work looks dangerous 😳 ☠️ 😬
Yea, I didn't see many teathers...

I have ponderd of how much gold and jewels have been found after this historic event. Just saying. Nice work restoration workers.
wild they won’t let people build homes back in the new flood zone in most cases but they can put the railroad right back in lol
This ought to be on the discovery network.
Is this gonna be a permanent bridge or is it temporary construction?
Why so many partial loads? They are paying a lot of dump trucks to carry half loads.
The trucks have weight limits and they are hauling up mountains...and down.

Is the bridge for the RR if so looks like the RR will be in a new spot?
In my opinion, this bridge is small potatoes and temporary. Provides access to the gorge.
Railroad has lots of money!

The music completely ruins the video
I'm wondering why they are building a bridge right there. What the hell is that for?
A bridge along the Clinchfield was there before the flood. See the piers?
@@TheDr.Magnum There was no bridge there before. Those piers were for the railroad trestle about 1/2 mile downstream.
I'm curious about that as well. You can clearly see the tracks on the bank where all the equipment is. Why would they be building a bridge there?

Looks like a temp bridge so they can access the other side with equipment instead of driving through the water.
Africa just got a billion US tax dollars to build a railroad. How much does US railroads trashed by a hurricane get? I think you know the answer
