I love an espresso first thing in the morning...
Thanks for the great video.. going to try your method..
Have you tried just using the distribution tool to distribute and 'tamp'? From my experiences, still produces a great extraction and saves a step.
I've been using just a distribution tool for a while now and the results seem good. Only downside is that changing the dose requires you to change the depth of the distribution tool.
Hoon could you make a video explaining why fresh coffee is better and how long it stays fresh and maybe do an experiment where are you brew a shot of espresso when the beans are very fresh and then do a shot with the same beans a week later and then 2-3 weeks later or something like that
Sounds good! I already save beans for next week video!
Look at the channel seatle coffee gear. Here is the abstract: fresh beans produce a lot of pressure in the portafilter, so you can easily find the correct grind and have a balanced shot with a lot of crema (thick foamy like espresso coming from the portafilter). Coffee beans older than 30 days do not produce pressure in the portafiltre, so you have to grind extra fine, which make the taste of espresso horrible. Also it pours very dark, watery and fast.
Great video Hoon,
This will help me next time I brew my espresso and I recently have been using really fresh roasted coffee beans and I was confused of why I had to change the grind size almost daily
I like to waited about 7 to 10 to starting drinking the freshly roasted beans. Before then I have to change the grinder settings daily.
Gind setting 8? What is the hurr set at? Like the vdeos by the way.
Burr set at 5,
Hey Hoon I've been watching for just under a month and love your videos. You've answered a couple of questions and in very thankful for that it's helped. Finally decided to order good brothers coffee. I got the Sumatra blue gayo. Really excited to give it a try. Have you dialed in this roast? Any idea On the grind setting? Im still not the best at dialing in and don't want to waste too much of the beans.
Check out this video. I used Sumatra from Good Brothers Coffee ruclips.net/video/2WUFaCCPP9I/видео.html
Hi Hoon, I really enjoy your videos. I just got a question regarding grind size. I always have to put the grinder on 2 or 3 even with beans I just got and have been roasted 3 days ago locally. I dont understand how any setting higher than maybe 4 would be useful. Seeing as my coffee is fresh ? Do you think something is wrong with my grinder ? I always get a 1 o'clock on the pressure gauge and about 20 to 25 secs ( preinfuion included )
Do you get a dark roasted from local roaster?
@@HoonsCoffee Thanks for the reply. I am not too sure, the beans are not single origin. They are from Ethiopia (Guji) and Kenya (Kevote) washed. Might be a dark roast ?
@@RonnyKohlmann How's coffee taste? As long as coffee is good I wouldn't worry about it.
I need those tiny mugs 😍
Using 9g of Lavazza Decaf beans for a single shot for a latte. Grinding at 2. Single wall filter. Pressure at 1 O'clock. Getting 23g of espresso in 18 seconds. Minimal crema. Somewhat sour.
Puck getting stuck to machine.
Suggestions?
For my experience, I have no luck with getting a good shot from single wall / single basket. I usually used double wall basket for my single shot. Also, my coffee puck is stuck to machine as well.
Well done, a good demonstration on the proper procedure for a good espresso...
How long have you had the Breville Barrista express and are you still happy with this unit?
Overall I'm really happy about it! Simple but you do need to take some time to learned about the machine. I had it for a year!
Hey Hoon, thanks for another great video!
Just a small question regarding the grind settings. Where is the top burr grind setting at?
Check out the video I did. ruclips.net/video/Th0R36yU0C0/видео.html It show you how to adjust the top burr.
Hey Hoon. Great channel.
My question is that my grind amount is set to the minimum amount on the dial. I also tamp harder than I like yet it still gives too much coffee in the basket. Is there a way to lower the grind amount even further than the dial amount? Thanks. Tim
Are you using single or double baskets? Also I have noticed that when I use a coarser settings grinder gives me more cofee( remember there are 2 grinder settings, the one outside and another inside grinder, you could play with those to see if there is any diference). Finally you could use a bascule and put around 18 grams of cofee, exactly how hoon does it
Thanks for the nice videos😊👍☕
Thank you So much Dear Hoon
Great man keep going
Thanks ✌
Hey Hoon, just got my distribution tool! About what depth do you set it at?
Same as Razor tool depth.
That looks
very delicious! Nice job I never understood floral taste. Is that like sweet ? Maybe perhaps a taste of swallowing perfume after walking through a department store lol ?
I would say yes floral is like a sweetness. Have you ever went to a flower shop or smelled fresh flowers? theres a certain sweet silky semi bright "Floral" smell which is how i would describe it a floral. If your coffee is roasted past a certain roast level (full city or dark) you will NOT get these floral notes. Getting the floral notes is easier to achieve with paper filtered coffee. I use an aeropress if im looking to get those types of notes. Happy drinking
@@BrentGoodale Is this bean best for the espresso and Americano?
@@HoonsCoffee If extracted correctly i would say espresso with a 3-1 ratio. I found this bean to be amazing in about 2 more days on espresso. i like the pressure gauge to be straight up. I hope this helps!
Nice video, would of been better if you showed the dials when you coffee was coming out though.
I can tell you where the dial was: out of range :D This was absolutely over-extracted. So much pressure and so much yield. I cannot believe Hoon could really taste anything... just a commercial.
I'll next time!
why do I can brew a spresso in breville machine, the same of yours, with the pressure hand right in the middle of the display on machine?
What kind of bean are you using it now?
Hoon's Coffee I only use the Arabic coffe🤷🏼♂️
@@mauro4156 is that dark roasted coffee?
Hoon's Coffee absolutely! But not too dark
Try coconut sugar on the top.itsbthe best
I'll. I have plenty of time now due to Corona Virus
3.330 viewer 👍👍👍Bye the way its time for a live stream i guess 😏
I need to figure it out how to do it! It would be fun!
