The decent community discovered (based on real data) a wet puck can even be a good thing, especially for light roasts. The theory is that when the puck has space to expand channeling is less likely to happen.

Does the metal puck screen help? I have one but can’t notice a different with/without it.

I think the biggest advantage is keeping your shower screen clean or at least cleaner. As to different in the coffee itself, most seem to say make very little difference. That assumes you have a shower screen already with good and even flow.

The metal puck screen can help with cleanup on a soggy puck.. Just press down on the metal screen to push the excess water out of the bottom of the puck and then tap 2x on the top of the portafilter to dislodge the screen and boom--dry puck!
