Just sitting here in isolation it's been a sad week. His youngest daughter dead from an accident at age 27 and I'm watching this interview. May God Bless the Williams family from here on out
Now here we are just a few years later and without warning his beautiful wife Mary Jane Williams dies at 58 and that seems so young. Prayers for Hank Jr. and his entire family ✌🏼🙏🏼
Growing up in the real south in the early 80's this guy was bigger than Elvis ever thought about. God being #1 parents #2 Hank was#3. We knew every word to every song.
I would almost agree with the fact that Bocephus was bigger than Elvis in the south, being that I am a lifelong true hard-core fan since I first was introduced to Junior, but somehow it just seems sacrilegious to overate the King, every musician throughout history has a greed and will tell you that Elvis is the one that started it all, he was the coolest cat on the block, and you can hardly find anyone who does not agree with that but most especially all musicians will tell you Elvis was the one and that includes Hank Junior. Now I have heard comments from Hank where he says that he thinks since his daddy was twisting his knees and legs in the early 50s he was actually the first rockabilly and he could be right but nobody touched this nation and all the world like Elvis Presley. And that’s coming from a huge Hank Junior fan.
I'm a diehard Bocephus fan, diehard, but he never was as big as Elvis in the South or anywhere else. There never was or never will be anything like Elvis was. People just don't know what Elvis accomplished as an entertainer if they compare anyone to him. His 21 years of stardom will never be equaled.
I told my kids that the other day. Growing up in the South (Alabama) in the 70s and 80s, you grew up loving Hank Jr. He's really kind of a symbol of our state.
My father told me about the accident I had a Brian aneurysm of Brain had stroke couldn't walk or talk very clearly ur music gave me strength thanks hank luv ya 🙏🙏❤❤❤I wish I could meet ya go fishing
One of the Icons in the business. He seems like a humble guy. Saw him in concert back in 1980 .The guy played maybe 7 different instruments what a talented performer.
Who’s still looking back on this documentary in 2019?? I remember actually watching this when it aired on CMT! Always reminds me of my Daddy May he Rest In Peace 1937 through 5/29/15 #outlawwomen
Dude I'm 23 this and hank sr george jones johnny cash waylon jennings all the original outlaw country stars all of that great music is probably been the biggest influence on my life choices since I was 10 years old or younger
He really seems like a great guy,,,i respect his deciding to break away from his Dad and those who wanted him to be "another Hank" and make the music he wanted! Total respect. I hope he lives a long time and keeps making music!
His father died when he was about four years old. It was his mother, Audrey Williams who was pressuring him to keep the style and image of his father while performing. He became enstranged from her when he turned 18
He's anything but a nice guy. I saw him in a gunshop in montgomery recently and he was a loud, coarse obnoxious ass. And he never came close to being bigger than Elvis.
Growing up in a small town close to Paris, TN. My cousins and I listened to Hank many nights either contemplating life, planning our next party, or simply having drink at our own cabin. Hank definitely made a huge impact on all of us. The cool part? My cousin ran into him a few weeks ago at LakeWay getting whiskey. They said "hello" and Hank held the door open for him. In high school, you could always hear Hank Williams Jr playing at our parties! 😁 thank you sir, for all the great music!
Hey jackie growing up in north Alabama and my dad taking me to the mary carter paint store in Cullman Alabama to meet Hank at 7yrs old in 1983'really opened my eyes! He was a little bit more reved up than he is here!
@evanclark saw him mid 80's he was drunk but not sloppy he kept saying dim the dam. lights well he threw mic down left an came BK with a 22 rifle. Shot one out they dimmed the rest. Everyone yelled an clapped an he picked mic back up started singing family tradition
@@b.mitchell4518 I bs you not, seen Hank MANY times be but this one will always stick in my mind, this was around the time frame of od'd in Denver, other country artists rarely saying a single curse word hand spewing out cocaine....O.G.
Just think, if he would have continued down the road of being just like his daddy like everybody wanted, we sure would of missed out on some great music. Glad he went and broke that family tradition..
I've gone to two or maybe three Hank Jr shows, he lets the band go on break after an hour or so then he sat on a chair, kept playing then the band comes back out and they play and sing for another hour!!! Hank is the man!!!
Well what you have to take into account is the fact that if Hank Senior had lived juniors life would’ve been a different story. He wouldn’t of been forced on the stage when he was eight years old to sing his dad’s music. The whole reason that happened was because senior had died too soon and the people were not ready to let him go. And then you have to consider that his mother Miss Audrey was doing everything she could to keep her late husband‘s memory alive so that the money would keep rolling in, no offense to women in general but they are usually on a whole more likely to be persuaded by money and influence.
He cut ties with his mom at 18 cause she wouldn't support him unless it was like his dad his dad would be very proud of him I think I bet he's looking down proudly saying that's my son
I hope you don’t mind me calling you son since I have a son your age but listen Hank Junior has always preached about listening to different kinds of music and not locking yourself into one kind, and the only problem and it’s not really a problem it’s just more of a hangup with your generation is you don’t give different kinds of music a chance. Hank Junior is not country music and even if he was he still can rock harder than most so-called hairband hard rock musicians. In his prime in the 80s he put on the best show in the country and I know because I saw very many of his shows. I love Hank, I love Tupac, Kid Rock, Kings of Leon,.... Music is like people, it’s individual and what you like you like and you never have to apologize for it.
My childhood is Hank Jr music....my daddy loved him and had him rockin on every trip we made in the truck! Miss you love you Dad n God Bless you n Hank Jr!
I know his Daddy is so proud of him, he's looking down on him singing all his honky tonk hits. I thank the good Lord for Hank, he's got me through some hard times. Music feeds the soul.
Powerful fkn interview!! I’ve met so many people like that in AA rooms, who’’ve seen the bottom and seen God and come out humble & laughing about it. A type of Man U don’t see often at all in today’s society
I got to interview Hank Williams Jr. twice. In Charlotte, NC October 1977 and in York, SC December 1979. He is GREAT to interview, really answers questions thoroughly. He opens up and talks. I’ve been a major fan since first hearing him sing the soundtrack of “ Your Cheatin’ Heart.” My buddy Darrell Garver auditioned for him and played guitar with him on “Your Cheatin’ Heart” and “Sweet Home Alabama.” Google Gaston Gazette Darrell Garver. Hank recorded for me, “Hey, everybody, this is Bocephus and that equals Hank Williams Jr. every time. You’re listenin’ to Bob Bigger on WGNC radio. Keep listen’ to Bob for the best in country music!” See photos. RUclips Bob Bigger Gallery of Stars. ,
Maybe the best interview with Hank Jr. ever !! He is so much like his dad and writes incredible songs. Hank during this period lived in Cullman Al. He also had a store in Cullman selling everything hunting and boots 😎 !! His fiddle player was Vernon Derrick lived here in a little town in north Al. I’ve literally lost count on the number of times I’ve been to his show and he never disappointed !!! Hank has really been through so much in the past 4 years with the death of his daughter and just a few weeks ago his relatively young wife passed away , I think they said she was like 58 years old. They were married in 82 I think !! Prayers for Hank Jr. and his entire family ✌🏼🙏🏼
I Saw him at the Houston Rodeo & it was like Chirch for me. He played Waylon, standard Hank Sr. & his smashes. At 74 Bocephus is the GOAT- no one plays or parties like him. His folks would be proud imo.
I met him when he was living in Cullman Alabama and we were backstage at his concert in Oklahoma City. He seemed to be very quiet at the time, 1978, Willie was on the show too, and Jerry Lee and others. Billy Deaton was still his manager then.
Hank Williams Jr. is real man , he left it all just handled at his feet to follow his own footprints... he went through hell and back , if he ain’t a REAL BIG BALLS MAN of the best making I don’t know who is , Hank Jr. is inspirational to all of us to never settle for the comfort zone , legendary on his own making even though he’s the son of the greatest of them all he made it on his own , my sincere and deepest respect and gee he can play heaps of instruments too and he can play then extremely well , real deal !

ZoneFighter1 with a name like dark Lord Satan what would you expect? I mean it was just about 15 years ago when Hank the third released the straight to hell album
Its cool that hank actually answered her questions, alot of famous people are real short and sarcastic when interviewed in general, and especially when being asked about their down times .
He wasn’t stoned!,... he was hiking along the Montana Idaho border with his friend and his friends 14-year-old son and that’s the reason he was there was to get away from Nashville and all the highlife that included. He had just met his soon to be second wife and was trying to get his life straightened out and he stepped on a what he thought was a solid ledge that gave way under his weight since he is about 6 foot three and 225 pounds and tumbled if I’m not mistaken 500 feet and landed headfirst onto a boulder which split his head open from the back of his scalp all the way down across his chin. I appreciate the thought of you thinking about Hank Junior walking through life stoned and drunk all the time like George Jones but he really doesn’t. When he is away from the stage and performing and he is hunting or fishing he doesn’t use any kind of substances at all, of course if he’s on stage he’s gonna have some whiskey, probably some blow, maybe even pain medication because he is an older man now but he was not stoned when he fell off the mountain. The blood test from the hospital after the fall verified that and so did Dick Wiley,...the guy that he was with.
He gives a great interview and speaks from the Heart. Thats pretty rare these days. I saw the light is a vid recently done on Hank Sr, Very well done, t the end check out the extras and get a reallllly good surprise.thumbs up
I am so glad Hank that you decided to make it on your own and just be you. We all have our times But you are a national treasure and don't let anyone tell you your not.
His dad would be very proud of him I believe that as of 2021 he has 21 golden platinum awards and still performing this is why he cut ties with his mom when he turned 18 because he wanted to do his own style and she wouldn't support it so he cut ties I seen this legend for the first time July 4th 2021 in natchez Mississippi and he was awesome full of energy and kept us laughing the whole show I have been a huge fan of his for years and at the age of just 32 I love his music and absolutely love this man
Really enjoyed this interview. And I must say,to me it wasn’t who was the best singer,or even who was the most successful between him and his Dad. Two completely different era’s for one thing, and really two different kinds of music and singing. Both had great talent, but damn It must have been hell trying to be the son of Hank SR. I think we can all agree,he field them shoes and then some.
I got to see you at the Worf in Orange Beach Al. You where wearing wight and you sat on a stool and rocked me out in the stands. Thank you so much for being you.
Something I’ve noticed watching videos of performances and interviews of Hank Jr. is that he is so comfortable in his skin and I envy that. I’m just guessing it comes from a literal lifetime of being the center of attention in crowds and on stage.
WHEN YOU FINNALLY TOOK THAT FALL AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN YOU FIGGERED OUT SINGING WASNT ALL THAT MUCH COMPARED TO LIFE ,YOU THEN AND SOUNDED THE BEST YOUVE EVER IN YOUR LIFE ........AND AFTER THAT YOU SOUNDED REAL TRUE TO US AND YOURSELF...THE REAL HANK JR......

A legendary music icon is who Randall Hank Williams Jr is and will always be.

In the eightys he and his music changed me completely for the good
Something I’ve noticed watching videos of performances and interviews of Hank Jr. is that he is so comfortable in his skin and I envy that. I’m just guessing it comes from a literal lifetime of being the center of attention in crowds and on stage.
