I've never seen two guitar nerds hold a guitar for that long without playing it that has to be a Guinness world record
It's no way i wouldnt atleast do a little doodling noodling around. I can't hold a guitar over 10 seconds without plucking around! It's impossible!
It distracts from conversation. I’m sure they want to play, it just wouldn’t be professional, considering this is their job
I could never
😂
Its all plugged into the amp ready to go just for them to use it as a wrist rest.
Thank you again Marty for having me on. It was fun hanging out with you and
The highlight of the trip.
Thanks so much Phillip! That was a blast!!
Both of your channels are amazing, thanks to both of you for your work
can you tell me something about my 2019 gibson les paul standard 60's bourbon burst i didn't know?
Yo i love the video, strat is my dream guitar. I've been playing a classical acoustic and I can't even put a strap on it(that I know of) I need a fender stratocaster, any way you guys have a deal for me??
Pretty sure that's Jason Mraz and Joe Satriani, didn't have my glasses though
I do have my glasses and i can confirm!
LOL ! Funniest comment ever on this video...:)
😹😹😹
Funny thing is.. when I opened this video my internet is so slow it played in 144p. So all I see is blur.
Ritchie Sambora and Satriani
The main difference between an American Fender, and a Mexican fender is 50 miles.
I mean a different factory is a different factory, but this fact is amazing, isn't it?
I've been loving the stuff coming out of the Mexican plant lately... my 2 new Charvel's are both killer.
Russ Desaulniers comment of the decade
A green card you might even say?
Scott Grove?
The most legendary response I’ve ever heard and that’s super true 😂
Dude loved this, Mexican strats are some of the best guitars out there. I got 6 of them and my best playing guitar i've ever laid my hands on is my 1994 mexican fire "squire series" that supposedly is made with american parts shipped down to mexico during the factory fire. The best advice to give anyone starting as Phil said is to get a Mexican strat. So versatile and comfortable and always sound great.
Love seeing you comment on guitar-related videos. Hope you're loving the DR200 now that she's fresh off a rebuild.
@@paulyC Cheah !

90s we’re a good year. I have a Mexican telecaster from 94 too and it’s excellent.
Amen brother black label strat best feeling neck and vibrant bodies ever.I swapped out all electronics and hardware it’s like a custom shop!!!
I have a Squier I bought thirty years ago. I still play it every day.
Phillip is such a great guy. Glad you’ve been collaborating with him more often.
This video ended way too soon. I could have easily sat through an hour or more watching you guys. Great video, Thanks Marty!
Pretty sure there will be more!
@@MartyMusic Good call on that!!
I've two Mexican Strats and were happy with them. FUN FACT: When Leo Fender started his factory in Fullerton, guess who built them?
Who

Ahhh fuck, i guessed keebler elves
I met Phil today at Guitar Center. Couldn't have been a nicer guy. Thanks for takin' time outta your day for a chat!
Really glad to see you and Phil geeking out. Enjoy both of your channels. Thanks for the video Marty!👍👍😀🎸🎶
Phil is the man!! I always catch his Friday live stream. So much information and tips in his channel
It's true I always come back to Phil's channel. The guy's youtube persona is so down to earth and he speaks a real language that nerds and non nerds can understand.
Very intelligent discussion. That's how I saw things growing up in the 90s. Also very refreshing to see two RUclipsrs having a discussion and NOT talking over each other.
Marty and Phil's channels are both great to watch and learn from. Thanks guys.
This was great! Anyone who's a loyal Know Your Gear follower knows Phil's a walking talking living wealth of knowledge. More channels should interview Phil ..AND Marty! And I'm not just saying that cos this is his channel. Have you ever seen another channel featuring Marty? Don't remember the channel but I remember it taught me a lot more about his portfolio as a "guitarist".. which is something he NEVER talks about on this channel.
To all RUclips channels, this shit just needs to happen more often. Interview one another. Y'all have shared loyal fans. Do it! 🤘
Phil's account is grossly underfollowed/under appreciated.
Ya got the backwards....
uh .....wait your joking right..
Hahahahahah are you kidding
A Mexican Fender Strat was my first electric guitar. Still going strong 17 years later!
this meet up between you two is awesome , really enjoyed it !
You two are just awesome!!!! Hope to see more cooperative videos of both of you.
Phillip McKnight does some amazing amp comparisons that are totally invaluable. Also, Keith Merrow has done demos of all of Seymour Duncan’s bridge pickups in the same guitar, with the same amp.
Why am I not surprised that two of the greatest guitar ambassadors on YT can collaborate so wonderfully? Thanks for all you both do!
I’ve got an American Strat and it plays better, but my son’s Mexican Tele has AMAZING tone and sustain. He never plays it. 🥺.....but I do😈
@@yargnad Yawn.
@@dj-mn4sc Make no mistake, I'm completely cool with you being misinformed.
@@yargnad Gu.itar hipsters always say the Chinese and Japanese guitars are better
@@dj-mn4sc And clueless comment jockeys can't just try them and find out for yourselves. I work on guitars all week long, just calling it how I see it.
So, you like the tone and sustain of Telecasters more than that of Stratocasters. You might be right about that, but Stratocasters are more ergonomic.
Phil and Marty in one video? That's gotta be amazing!
Two videos...they just made a guitar shopping video before this one...
Why?
Awesome to see two channels I watch come together.
Both decent guys too. No BS from these two.
Top stuff
Phillip deserves the kind words. He is well regarded here in the east valley.
I really enjoy both of you. Thanks for all you do
I watch you both almost daily. It’s really cool seeing you together
You cover such interesting info on the the finished sound of this instrument. I guess you never know when and where a great instrument will come from. Nicely done guys!
I agree about the mexicans being amazing instruments. I was looking for a telecaster for a while, and after months of even thinking of building a warmoth partscaster I came to the conclusion that, apart from a beautiful Custom Shop masterbuilt no caster reissue, a baja tele is the best telecaster I could get, and man I was right.
Baja are so great... stunning instruments, though I had to rework the frets on mine.
I actually chose the Squire Classic Vibe over the Baja. Hated it. Way too tame for a telecaster. Not twang, no attack.
But that is the thing with taste. It you love smooths and warm telecasters the Baja probably isn’t bas
My two faves under one roof and no egos!
Well done, guys!
Nice! Marty, I hope you and Phil can do some more collaborations in the future. Great video!
This is the way it should be, two guitar guys propping each other up and collaborating on their mutual interests and needs. Already subscribed to you both long before this video!!
The crossover event we all didn’t know we needed🔥
Great video! I love my Mexican 60's Lacquer Strat. I have loved all the MIM Strat's i've played. MIA Fenders are fantastic as well, but i've owned 2 and they are gone now and the MIM model is my go-to. The American and Mexico plants are doing good things.
Love to see two of my favorite channels supporting one another!
Do these two have a podcast? Cause they should. Good chemistry, even better info
My two favorite channels right here, Marty and Phil. The channels I recommend to everyone for Lessons and Gear information. Wonderful discussion, guys!
James, thanks for the kind words and support!
good to see you two together. Really miss Phil, he was the only guy i would let touch my guitars for set ups and repairs.
Awesome to see y’all talking together!!!
Awesome! I love those jazz masters too! Phil needs to become the president of Gibson. He can bring the soul back to that company!
Now it makes sense. I love playing my ebony Epiphone Les Paul and always wondered why.
I love it when my favorite guitar peeps do collaborative vids! Just shows how awesome and strong the community is!
Thanks guys, great video and equally great information.
The two most importantant youtubers for a working guitarists, marty will teach you covers of every song you've ever wanted to learn and more great tabs and lessons for solos and more and phil will review every piece of gear every year and tell you about it and give you a full review of everything talk about amazing guitar facts and sharpen my axe was bad ass too
Bad spelling on this one. Marty Schwartz id love to jam with you bro. All love from new Jersey
I love you guys together, would honestly dig a podcast from the two of you, maybe focusing on something different each week.
Thanks to both of you for a great video! I watch both of your channels and have gained so much guitar knowledge from both of you, thank you!
Thanks for the great video!
The boost may come from Phil being on your channel. I enjoy his channel and just found yours because of him.
I have a Classic Player 50s. Shoreline Gold. It’s fantastic. Soft V neck profile is really nice.
I knew a guy that had one and I had dreams about the guitat
Love the video Marty. TY!!!
Marty... between you, McKnight and Beato all of my screen time is taken. Thanks for the great videos.
I have an HSS player strat, it is awesome. Most versatile guitar that was built.
I just bought one as my first guitar.
@@fredymendez3864 Good choice
For me it is the other way aroundd: I've been watching Uncle Fester's channel for years, but this is the first time I see your channel, so I'm subscribing because I'm a follower of Phillip
You guys are awesome. I dig the guitar community and both you guys have been a blast to watch and learn from.
Great collaboration! You guys are the best.
Just want to throw out there, the Player Series is incredibly different to the Mexican Standards. They have an extra fret, two point trem, satin necks and proper alnico 5 pickups instead of the cheap ceramics that the standards used. They're leaps and bounds ahead of what the standard series used to be (Coming from someone who's got a Mexican Standard Tele and will never part with it).
Isn't it funny how different players have different preferences? Definitely works out great for guitar manufacturers! I wouldn't consider the Player Series to be leaps and bounds ahead of the MIM Standards, but they do seem to be good guitars. I like the ceramic pickups in the Standard; the Player Series alnicos sound kind of, idk, I guess kind of harsh to me. If I ever pick up a Player Series model, there's a good chance I'll end up swapping the alnicos out for ceramics lol.
@@RC-bs6eb yes I agree. I much preferred the older standards over the players. Rosewood fingerboards, solid necks. Players seem cheap in comparison. Pickups are easy replaced.
I bought two Mexican Strat last year, a Player HSH (with clever automatic switching) and a Player Plus SSH. Both are great and didn't need a set up but for one thing - setting the intonation, because I'm guessing they thin k players will change the strings ( I did). Their fit and finish are as good as the USA, Fretting the same and they were polished. Both sets of pick ups are different. I have to say that that until recently the choice of colours were both anemic and limited from Mexico.
Certainly I haven't considered changing either, yet. But I may - I've changed pick ups on top of the line USA models. Not Custom Shop, in fact the last Fender USA Strat I bought was one. P
Finally the greats gather together
Nice to see the two guitar legends in one video. Great video! Nice to know more about that Jazzmaster. I always wanted to get one.
ive leanred a lot from you both! Thank you for what you do!
👍🏻 for the title. 😂 GEAR LORD!
Shout out to Phil McKight!! He is super great, check him out on his channel!!
Dude, I've been subbed to both you guys for days. Cool collab vid
Great interview!
Phil dropping the knowledge! Some great info in there
Phil's the man!
Informative, entertaining, awesome dudes and a nerd meter... What is not to like? 👍👍👍
I bought a MIM Nashville telecaster in 1998 and it is still one of the sweetest guitars I have ever played
This is awesome, thanks for explaining this model! I have this guitar and was having trouble finding out more about it. I really like how the pickups on this version of the Jazzmaster sound compared to the regular ones. I also like the bridge on this over the usual jazzmaster one. I really like this guitar and am glad I bought a mexican made one :)
It's so true, back in the early 90's I was thinking of getting a Squire, but they were utter trash, even for a beginner like who didn't know any better. Epiphones were ok, but they were so bulky (the Les Pauls) that I couldn't take them. Everyone kept telling me to get a used Mexican Strat because they were the best for the money. I ended up going with Ibanez. Never have an issue with any other their guitars even to this day.
I love my brand new MiM Player Surf Green Strat!!! Phil is right, i've never seen the color but when I saw It I had to have it!
Dude I am looking at that one, very hard to find a Surf Green/maple neck/small headstock that isn't that one. Is it dope?
Lucky Dude!
@@morrumband Plays like a dream!
Two great guys! Thanks.
Nice one Marty, - nice one Phil. I watched a lot of Phil's vlogs before buying my latest electric guitar. He's a world of knowledge. Your my go-to guy for tunes. Thankyou both fellas. 🎸
The problem: Those overly expensive, classic vintage guitars we all dream of someday having has a curse on them because thieves want it more than you do. You gotta leave that "Stradivarius" at home. They don't belong in bars and grills. Mexican Strats, Epiphones and Squiers are today's go to guitars and made better than ever. These are also your best "touring" guitars. Especially when damage or theft comes into play. You can always hotrod or tweak them to your taste..
I gig with a Fender FSR Blacktop Telecaster in transparent orange.
It looks gorgeous. People always compliment my Tele on how it looks and sounds.
Other musicians have asked me if it is an American Tele and I tell them it is a Mexican Tele. I just wish Fender would release Mexican Fenders in some other colors.
Try being a lefty. It's like Henry Ford said, "You can have it any color you want, as long as it's black." ;) BTW an orange tele is a sweet guitar, bro!
I get nothing but compliments on my FSR. I always recommend it to people who are looking to pickup a Tele without breaking the bank
omg this video is so long coming its great namm has to be at the top this year with all the great youtubers there I wach and love. thanks my friends
This video is freakin' great! I'd love to see more of you guys just talking. Guitars, music, whatever, it works!
Two of my favorite Peeps. Nerd Meter! LOL
Man, Phillip is truly the absolute maestro of guitar gear! I saw you on his channel, and it's awesome to see him doing the same for you!
I love my Squier. Would never sell it. Great video from two awesome guys I've learned so much from. Marty teaches me the blues and Phil shows me how to fix my gear. Free invaluable lessons. 🤘
Holy crap I didn't even know this was on here. My two favorite guitar "nerds" on You Tube. I've learned a lot from both Marty and Phil. You guys rock. I gotta buy some T-shirts.
OK, the 'nerd meter' rules! :-) Give that designer a raise. Brilliant!
What I hear in this interview is that Fender decided to make great guitars and basses in ALL their factories! As Phil says, they started to compete with themselves. It's true that you get better electronic's and finish work on the USA guitars, but I found the feel of a MIM Strat to be more to my liking. Understood that I spent $$$ on pick-ups & electronics after purchase, but when I play that $700.00 Strat, it's "feel & fit" to my hands is better than any other guitar I own! BTW, it's a 2013 MIM Road Worn Strat with rosewood neck.
Need more videos with the two of you!
You guys could chat for an hour and Id be glued to the screen. Great Video!
Is any one else here having George Constanza moment?!?! Worlds are COLLIDING!!!!!
Love Phil he got the knowledge
Awesome convo!
Great video, Phill is always clear and quick with his knowledge. 👍🏼
My Mexican strat is my go to guitar over everything. American strats are also great. But the Mexican is just better to me.
Both of you guys are easily in my top 10 favorite you tubers. Love yalls stuff.
Andrew French love my mexi strat too. Unless your a pro or investing in your instruments, & that needs that little extra from a custom shop, the quality increase is disproportionately lower than the price spike.
You didn’t talk about GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome😊
If you want a Mexican fender you better hurry up. Soon they will all be over $1,000. And then 1500.
I had at one time a mim strat and an American deluxe strat..financial hardship hit and the deluxe was first of 20 some odd guitars to go and the mim was last.
American stuff is easy to sell. You take a beating on Mexican stuff. I could see why it was last.
A value for money beginner guitar is the Yamaha Pacifica. Great video by the way!
Andrew Pearse Pacifica was my first electric. A great guitar for the money.
My first guitar
Love to see you guys together!🔥🔥🤙
Great video guys. Thanks.
I would have said Billy Corgan but the Satch works as well
I would love to see Phillip McKnight do a TED Talk, or a master class at Berklee College of Music.
MORE PLEASE !
Marty...the man who I have never met but taught me and many others how to play guitar. Thanks !
I’ll out-nerd the nerd: the Jazzmaster body is actually not the same as a Jaguar body. The upper horn of the Jaguar is slightly more prominent than the Jazzmaster’s
These cats go together like peanut butter and chocolate :) Both down-to-earth, no BS, just sharing real info and tips to help make your life more fun.
I got a great deal on a used '11 MIM Fender Strat Deluxe Series Burst w/ gold hardware! It was $300 w/ a Roadrunner hard case. It's has a killer tone, S1 switching, neck feels/plays awesome and it looks great! Rosewood finger board too.
I didn't know I liked Strats until I played this one.
It was good to see your videos together! You guys are my favorite youtube guitar lords.
