Chicago Ray, Really? Not if I replace the pickups and play it sick. After all its the talent, not the guitar. I think people will laugh more to those stupid people who buy superexpensive gears and not able to play it or just end up on their display. Looks at Brian May's guitar. It is made out of cheap materials yet it is one of the most loved guitar in the world. So ironic that a copy of it is sold tens of thousand. Guitar is nothing without talent, I admire people who play crap guitars but able to sound it sweet.
@@sidcapalungan607 So you want to pay 350+ for a guitar, another 100 or so for pickups and you still wont have one that plays as well as a cheaper epiphone but hey, it says Gibson on it so that is all that matters. It's more than that too, you are buying a counterfeit. If you need a lecture on why this is wrong then you're a dumbass. From the uploader of this very video, pinned by him........"So... I get a lot of negative comments here about this guitar - Why not buy a real Gibson or Epiphone! Stop sending money to these counterfeiters!! ... Well I've got two Gibson LP's and an Epi so I feel I can make a reasonable argument for and against these copies. At the end of the day they feel cheap and a bit toy like! Even when you sort the fretwork, pickups, pots and machine heads its still going to feel no better than a Epiphone copy. A nicer headstock maybe but it would never fool a real Gibson owner. If you think it would your only fooling yourself."
Chicago Ray I got the guitar for like 150 from a reseller, put on an ansparger pups from an old LP, rewired it with push pull knobs with my prefered vintage setup, filed and refret with jumbo wires and finally repainted the neck. I spent another 20 bucks for the works I did. I was thinking of rebranding it but I guess the "Gibson" will stay on the headstock. Cheap epi not even sound close.
@@sidcapalungan607 Then the uploader of this very video and I disagree with you. A hello kitty guitar has more integrity but hey, enjoy your "Gibson" dork. You impress no one.
I have purchased 5 guitars now through Aliexpress ~~~ A Copy of a Martin D-45 that is absolutely gorgeous and sounds Great, A Chibson Les Paul that has a beautiful finish and sound quality, ~~a Chibson J200 acoustic guitar, Beautiful instrument and plays as well as the "real thing" my friend has, ~~~A Chibson ES335 that is a beauty and plays and sounds wonderful, ~~~and also a Fender solid rosewood telecaster that everyone drools over, It looks fantastic and sounds fantastic, I have read some complaints about the Chinese instruments but I have encountered None so far, I love each one of them and the price was unbelievably cheap :-) Very happy with the ones I bought.
Congratulations Telly Caster! I also have some Epiphone copies made in China and they have incredible design and even sound, SORRY FOR THE ONES WHO ARE STUBBORN AND DON'T WANT TO SEE THE REALITY, The Chinese are making and surpassing The original ones! The Les Paul company is the responsible for the fact of not reducing the price of their expensive guitars! I´m happy that the Chinese are giving us the opportunity to buy beautiful copies at very low prices with incredible sound and quality and at the same time they are helping thousands of talented boys who aren't able to afford an "original Les Paul or Epiphone"
I got a 335, actually its more like a 355. The headstock is strangely about 1/2 longer than a gibson, I set it up and dressed the frets and its as good as any Gibson.
i own 2 lespauls and an american tele. i agree 100% with you. i like them but i they are just to expensive i think. my last one is ok. gibson lespaul. 2017. gold. tribute. usa. 1000$ cd. if we forget about the bindings and frills. it feels like my 2600$ lp. i realy think that if they want to survive the new reality. they need to do this. good gtrs for less.

Many people have thick skulls. To them, if it isn't an actual Gibson, it's a waste of money. IMO, an Ibanez is a fraction of the price of a Les Paul, and can actually be just as good, a lot of times better quality.
@ I have an 85 Tokai SG Standard which is much better than my 2013 Gibson 61 reissue Les Paul/SG Standard with sideways vibrola. The Gibson is just not in the same class it will be going.
I'm going to say this if you can play a guitar you will understand what I'm saying its all about how you set up your guitar to get the results you want Gibson really is just a name at the end of the day
Its more than a name really. I think nearly everyone who has picked up a guitar and fell in love with it aspire to own a Gibson or a Fender! After all they are what all the masters play!!
I have lots of guitars, I have heard lots of players on lots of guitars,...a shitty guitar player can make a great guitar sound shitty, a great guitar player can make a shitty guitar sound good...so goes the story of life.
true that. I've heard IDIOTS produce "cats in heat" noise on $5K+ instruments (some have DOZENS of them) and MUSICIANS playing the cheapest Squire and making wonderful music. BTW - there's an abundance of the former and a deficit of the latter.
I've been happy with the Chibs, Chender jazzmaster and Chofner Paul McFartney bass I've gotten; 7 axes of China replicas as of now. Normally need string changes, height adjustment to my liking, and wax potting for humbuckers. Throw my mate who works in the music store doing repairs about 50 usd, then for a total of $350-ish I have a very usable, often 1-of-a-kind axe. Very worth the money. And one of them is a LP Custom in neon pink! You can order any finish you want from most sellers, and they don't surcharge for the custom work. And honestly, complaining about minute imperfections in that fetching lemon-yellow Standard, having paid 1/20th of what the real Gibson would cost, and you get 89% of the quality.
I have bought % guitars from Aliexpress, maybe just lucky but all mine were fine. 3 Les Paul's and 2 Fender Strats. Great value, don't expect too much for what you are paying.
Bottim line: Definitely not beginner guitars since they can come with a host of problems that will only delay the learning process. Good project guitars. Level the frets, swap the electronics, set it up and you've got yourself a beautiful guitar that plays and sounds like a real guitar for 1/10 the price of one.
my second guitar was a univox cherry les paul copy i bought it in 1981 for $100 i loved it and it made me wanna learn and play more copy's have been around forever there great for a person starting out it is not worth spending $2500 for a new real one you mite give it up
I went through the whole cycle, and should of just bought the real deal. Just the fact of a BOGUS ax, was enough to make me loose any rush of enjoyment out of the whole event. Never again, unless you get a neutral headstock, and wanted a nice base for a project, the wood alone is worth the boat trip.
Yeah! You should just make your own logo or put your name on it. Really this is a cheap way to get a customised guitar with the finish you want. Who else will put together a guitar with your name to your specs!! ;0)
Great base to work on, well made, with minor flaws, in fact, complimented at first sight as the real deal. Really only the electronics were the issue, but playable, in fact I kept the pickups they sound great. I've got this built in neuro/noia about stuff that pops up as an issue, tried to catch the vendor before the send, but ya know.
You can play each string open and record it with a Gib and do the same thing with the copy and see if anyone can tell which is which. I did that and not one damn person could tell!
Yeah shure, that makes a huge difference buying an Epiphone in stead of a Chibson. Only problem is that the Chinese have had a license to build Epiphone guitars beside Indonesia for quite some time now. Be shure to check guitar-builder history before coming with accusations that simply are not true. I have an acoustic Yamaha guitar built in the Kyosung factory built in 1991 and it is flawless. Nowadays there are lots of hollow and semi-hollow Ibanezguitars made in China also beside Korea & Japan. :) Greetings from Rob/electric guitar & bass builder/restorer of violins, acoustic guitars & mandolins.
Gibson needs to let Epiphone use the Gibson shaped headstock, why the clipped corners? That would possibly help curb some of the counterfeiters. Fender, G&L, PRS all use the same headstock for their budget lines, but Gibson stubbornly uses the clipped corners, which make them easily identifiable from a stage, and like it or not, looks matter. As for these guitars, you get what you pay for, they look nice but lots of corners get cut, and buyer beware buying used.
lpdog, Epiphone is not a budget line thought up by Gibson in the 70's, it has a long musical history of it's own over 140 years. Looks only matter if you can't play worth a shit!
99.999% of the audience could care less what guitar a musician plays on stage. They only care about the sound of the music. I can honestly say I've never noticed what "brand" someone is playing except for Hendrix, Page, and Vaughn. I couldn't identify any other musician's brand if you paid me $100k to do it.
I have one on order....all I care is that the body and neck are good, I was only looking for a project guitar anyway, and they were all the same price, I'll actually be a little disappointed if it 's perfect out of the box....I doubt I'll keep the Gibson logo...
Tape over it. I do that on my genuine Gibson. They don't get credit for that guitar, I've done FAR too much work getting it playable, which since I KNOW what it takes to fix a genuine Gibson, these Chibsons seem like an amazing deal.
I’m thinking about getting one.... but because I want either a single humbucker wraparound or maybe 2 hum w/wraparound. If I wanted a regular setup, I’ll just buy a used one on eBay from an American. Chibsons are simply a gamble...in my opinion.
I can't understand why Gibson would be upset. A Chinese company is brazenly selling counterfeits of their products and people are fine with it. I've seen several of these counterfeits and the people who bought them had to put a ton of money in them so they can play decently.
Well you can get a guitar Plek'd. It's about $200. Switchcraft Switch is about $20. Obsidian no-solder wiring harness is $100. New pickups, well, the sky's the limit, but PAF spec, $60. At that point however, you have a guitar that's better than an Epiphone. And that's if you really have no skills at all, like you're bad at soldering, can't level a fret and can't set up a guitar.
The people who say "Gibson is just a name" are either jealous they can't afford one or played a sh*tty Gibson like a LPjr. Anyone who's had the good fortune to own a LP Standard and up understand why people get excited over real Gibson Les Pauls and knows it's more than just a name.
Yeah, I totally agree. Although my '93 Ebony Les Paul Studio is still one of the greatest guitars I've played - at least as good as my Standard. I've recently done a lot of work to it too. Pics on Getaways and Guitars Facebook page. Video to come when I've edited it! facebook.com/Getaways-and-Guitars-1668365140078342
hi pal ,could not help it ! i went and got one ,put gibson vintage pots & bumble bee's on it ,seymour duncan pearly gates ,neck &bridge , good tuners , now it's a great wee guitar ,good project ,would never sell it ,keep it in the family eh ,cheer's pal
CONGRATULATIONS KISS 1975! I also have the copy of Tommy Thayer White lightning and sounds incredible! I spent 260 for this guitar, and I´m proud of it!
You realize that all of the chibson are the same, made by the same place, wholesaled by different sellers right? Also if you think your chibson is a good guitar you don't know shit about guitars.
@Free Celt exactly! Those that buy this fraud and spend hundreds upgrading parts are still stuck with faulty body, neck, frets etc. Can never compare with an €piphone or similar priced Harley Benton, Badcat etc.
I got scammed too. Seems they send the good ones to the US! I saw the good reviews on Sarah's Guitar Store and I wanted to try. HUGE mistake. They advertised push-pull pots but the guitar arrived with regular pots. The binding was poorly made, dirt under the lacquer in several areas, stains of glue in the area of the nut... Absolutely no love in the making of the guitar. Send it back to China is discarded because the client pays the return shipping no matter what, and that costs as much as the guitar itself. So you end up dealing with Aliexpress for a partial refund and keeping a poorly made guitar. A total scam.
Aside from the electronic & tuner problems, that has to be the nicest looking fake I've seen as far as fit & finish. And as far as Gibsons lawyers threatening you, they're just blowing smoke. You haven't broken the law
+Squazzoo68 Cheers mate! Yeah other than the missing sliver of veneer it looks great! It is massively improved now - comparing it to a real LP here - ruclips.net/video/9Sk_lBSjRSQ/видео.html
+256daddycool yeah I watched that already. I've purchased & upgraded 4 fake...er, "homage" Les Pauls & they all rival my real Les Paul in looks feel & sound
Mine is a build from raw parts. I changed the pickups and did a setup after I built it, that's all. Looks and sounds great but you have to know what you're doing do get everything right.
I did change the pickups, bridge, tuners, the pots and got a professional fret dress! Now, can you tell the difference between my 2016 Les Paul Traditional, a 1993 Les Paul Studio or this my Res Pol LOL
Yeah I'm not trying to say it compares to a high-end Gibson but it certainly stands up to a good Epiphone and all I changed was the pickups. The pots & wiring are fine, the machine heads are fine - it stays in tune. There's a video of it on my channel... see how it sounds.
I have an awesome Korean made Epiphone Les Paul that plays better than many Gibsons I have had the chance to play. So I bought a Chibson and thought if it plays similar to my Epiphone I'd be happy. Well to my suprise the Chibson is a player! I put my favorite Ernie Ball strings on it, set the action a little bit lower and minor adjustments of intonation on the b and e strings, and now she sings perfectly. No fret issues anywhere on the neck. Did I get lucky or has anyone else been as fortunate to get such a great guitar for $219?
@@GetawaysandGuitars I guess I got lucky but the reviews seem to be getting better on the chibsons. Mine came unbranded no logos, no fake serial number. I bought headstock decals online and applied them myself.
By the time you've re-wired it, fixed all the issues, put proper pickups in it, proper tuners, proper hardware etc. You've spent close on £500. That seems to be the median price for a half decent guitar these days. I think I'd rather just save my 50p's for the real deal.
i bet you never played one of these guitars theirs no issues the sam factory winds the pickup search it eveyelectric comp. is made in taiweane spelled it wrong dont give a shit china
Frets $20 (sorry I'm American) Pickups (got seymour duncan mahems set used for $80, but lets say $150 for new set that smokes) Tuners: 3x3 ESPs are $25, Pots Dimarzio 4x @ $8.00, braided wire 6ft for $7.00 on amazon. So $234, google says worth £168.93. If you're the type of person who needs to hire a luthier to do the work, then you're going to have that expense with ANY guitar you buy so they cancel out in a comparison. Thus the chibson for current prices of $230 plus the 234 in hardware is a less than $500 guitar that has hardware of a 1000 guitar and is cut on a cnc machine using the same file. The chibsons upgrade the old adage of "just buy an epiphone throw in good hardware and get the setup you'll have to pay for on a gibson anyway and save tons of $ to have the same thing"
i have had a few of these and realistically you can upgrade them for a couple of hudnred and have a two grand guitar , get some good pickups , nice harness and new tuners , i have been pleased with roller bridges i have fitted
I’ll definitely be buying one now after seeing that its made well out of timber that should cost 3 times what you paid for the guitar. The first thing you should do it replace everything thing on the guitar and give it a fresh level and frett dress. No one seriously expects the tuners and electronics to be any good do they? Great looking guitar i say . Cheers
You know, I hate to go here but I will. I struggled for 2 years as a 15 year old back in '78 to buy my first Gibson Standard. I cut grass, washed cars, bagged groceries and worked Fri and Sat nights while everyone else partied at the beach. I finally got the 1500 and went to Mobile, AL and bought it. Cherry Sunburst. Alla ACE Frehley. Why do you think you can spend 400 US dollars and get anything close to that? There are not short cuts to learning to play, or buying gear. I Sweat my straplocks all the time out of fear of one breaking. I now have 4 Gibson Les Pauls and a few Marshalls. If you want to sound like a rock star, invest like one. Most of them are broke the first years because of it Your guitar is unshielded and not soldered correctly. Take it to a guitar guy and replace the parts. If that does not work take it to the local donation center, trash donation, and give it a new life. Saw dust.
I had a fake Strat a while ago, was totally unplayable. Frets too high & no amount of adjustment would help. I couldn't even TUNE it. I ended up dropping it off at the donation center... AFTER sanding off the headstock logo.
And another thing is...the biggest problem with Gibson guitars is the 17 degrees rake on the head that makes the pressure on the nut really too hard and the raked neck combined with the angle of the head makes it a good target if you would accidently drop it backwords. Why do you think that so many of them have cracks between the neck and the head!!??? Have the Epiphone guitars makers really solved the problems by decreasing the angle from 17 to 14 degrees??? Now that is a very good question!!!
The frets are Ok. But I got them leveled, crowned and polished, Changed the bridge, pups and put in switching pots. Its better now but not a patch on my Gibsons!
I own both a Chibson and 2 genuine Gibson Les Paul Standards and I have to agree the Chibson is far below Gibson in terms of quality and feel. The Chibson may sound nice once you give it a fret job, change the pots, and pickups (which can cost upwards of $400 to do), but it will never feel as nice as a Gibson. When you buy a Chibson Les Paul, you are essentially buying something that looks nice, but its quality in the inside is not great. One of the most common issues I had with Chibsons is that the cavities are not the correct size so it can be difficult to install new pots or switches. The truss rod is poorly made and it can be difficult to adjust it with conventional allen keys. Sometimes the truss rod will not even grip the neck properly. Even Epiphone Les Pauls are built better than Chibsons so if you are looking for a project Les Paul you can just buy a used Epiphone Les Paul. I owned an Epiphone Les Paul and its tone, playability, and quality was better than my Chibson even after I upgraded the Chibson.
Beautiful guitar, but that issue with the laminate is crazy. It looks like they just did not have a piece quite big enough and went with it. Unreal! Good news is that looks like real mahogany underneath though. What kind of pickups did you put in it?
The real deal here is: if the fret is good to play, if the guitar feels good, you just need to fix the electrical things , get some good pickups and youll have a decent piece of guitar there. They even made mahogany guitars... would definetly buy one of those.
They are fun to setup the neck per Gibson specs. If you can work the neck bugs out, they have Epi pickups so it's as nice as an Epiphone version, as far as I can see. I have this same one. Sounds as good as the real ones I use to have!
have one, changed tuners and reworked the frets. plays like a charm. next will be some new pick ups. build a chinese copy kit telecaster. used that body and neck as base to build me a custom tele that plays just as good as my vintage tele, aounds even better cause of the custom pick ups. so sue me.
This is Nice Guitar! Has the Tuneamatic Bridge & Fret Nibs down fretboard, the finish is nice So change Afew parts like the PUs, Pots & tuners, Then that Guitar isn't killer..IDC What any of these Idiots say, I have Real Les Pauls & I have several Chinese Les Pauls most were upgraded..What Im can say is Sometimes you get a Dud, I have 1 & it looks nice but feels crappy But rest are pretty Dam good! I also have Every Guitar under the Sun, So I have pretty good idea what I talk about & these Chinese Les Pauls in general are good But Iv also bought Every Single Chinese Les Paul already here in United States, I hear stories of Sezied Guitarz at customs, So thers that But find a Guitar already here, Mite already have Mods done & You probaby will be pretty happy with the Guitar🎸
Chibson is fantastic, old people hate it , the youth loves it. Thank you China for bringing the prices to an acceptable level. A new Gibson will have to go lower in price, so all good, everyone is a winner baby!
thanks, I will look into it, my laptop never was very loud for me, too much loud rock music when I was a young child has damaged my hearing...I have some extension speakers for the laptop, it boosts the volume up to 10 watts, not a lot but at least I will be able to hear it. Like I said I really want to watch this video, I have looked at dozens, if not a hundred chibsons, got to say they look real nice in the pictures.
A) How much did you pay for it, vs. what kind of new guitar can you buy locally for the same price? B) I would say "Don't buy a Chibson" if your goal is to be perfectly safe about it. But that is not fair either, because if you want to be perfectly safe, then you should not buy *any* guitar that has to be shipped to you. Play it first, then decide. C) I don't think you got a lemon, but even if did, well that is par for the course. You have to remember that buying these guitars is for people who are willing to take a risk. Some of them ARE actually pretty decent guitars. I know because I have a few of them myself. Everyone of them needed a bit of work. My $3,200 Gibson VOS didn't need any work, but it was $3,200 okay? The work I did on my Fender acoustic was probably worth $400, (plus $280 for the guitar) and that was an American guitar purchased locally. I could have done the same with an aliexpress Martin D28 copy, and the copy would probably sound better than my Fender. The guitar you have here seems fine to me. It needs (like ALL of these guitars) new electronics. Swap out the pickups and harness, set the action and intonation and it will be as good as anything else for the cost. If you got a Chibson for $180 and spent $250 working on it, that is still much much less than a $1,200 Epiphone, and the epiphone would not be any better. not at all. compared to the ones I have (maybe I'm just lucky, idk), but I think I would prefer my (after doing the work) chibson more than the average epiphone. But like I said, it is for people willing to take a risk. I had some broken switches on my double neck, and they shipped replacements out no charge. (takes awhile :/ ) I have done well on 3 out of 3 Chibsons, but certainly there is a risk that I could have gotten something with a warped neck, or frets not in the right place, or something tragic and unfixable. I would have been disappointed about the veneer not covering the point, but I would get over it once if that is all that was wrong after I changed elecs & tuners.
I have two, put new nut a roller bridge and new pickups what new CST parts and tonepros three-way switch and now they sound great but I prefer my epiphone's.
You know most Epiphone guitars are made of China, right? So unless you have that money to buy a Gibson, then stop bitching about the quality of a 200 dollar guitar expecting the quality of a 4000 dollar Gibson.
So, what if I order a guitar from China that is, say a Martin copy of some kind, but I order it with my own logo on it and it doesn't say Martin on it anywhere. I'm guess I would have to mark them 'Made in China', but other than that i could legally sell them n the states under my own brand, right? Even if they are 99% like a Martin, Gibson, PRS or Fender as long as they don't have the counterfeit logo they would be perfectly legal here, right?
They technically would unless they copy something else. For example, the pickup rings on the Paul Reed Smiths are own and trademarked (those slightly rounded) and not even PRS SE use them. You could use the shape if you change the proportions a little bit. Headstocks are usually trademarked (you can't use a 4+2 unless you're Music Man, for example). To sum up: no logos and slight changes to the trademarked design in parts and it's all legal (when it comes to counterfeit)
Yep. So contrary to the debate here, if you buy one of these copies you are supporting the chinese regime. But if you order the same guitar 99% same as trademark version, from the same seller, then your not supporting the chinese regime? Headstock logo means nothing. Unless someone tries to pass it off as real thing. In which case the buyer is a moron. Anyone shopping for a high end instrument should instantly know if its genuine from 10 feet away
I bought a real Gibson USA Lea Paul and I tried out several before I purchased anything :) I hear a lot of people will just order whatever off the net which tells me they just want the Gibson logo :) I’ve known guys to buy Gibson without thinking about the specs!! Had guys come up to me and say they wish their Les Paul had my pick ups or tuners etc. Then I just think ‘why didn’t you just play a whole bunch of models’ and pick the one you really wanted :) as for Cisdon or whatever it’s called? Avoid that crap :)
I paid $180 for a Chibson Les Paul. The fret ends are a bit sharp and the crap strings needed changing, but overall it's just as good as an Epiphone that costs three times as much. In fact, my Chibson has Epiphone pickups! The pickups are about the worst thing about it. Do you get paid by Gibson to knock these guitars, because they are worth what they cost, and more?
looks great. I bought two PRS guitars this summer, a used custom 24 and a used standard 24, both SE's but i got them both with shipping for under 700. the custom 24 is as nice as the American and about 2000 clams cheaper. and the custom 24 had upgraded pups, dimarzio crunch lab and liquifiers, which is another 165 upgrade. on ebay i feel lucky they arrived at all. gifted the standard, and kept the cusom 24, for now. couldnt do that if it was a 3000 dollar axe. I couldnt anyway. cheers.
I have a chibson supreme I bought for $150. It's a rocking sombitch..I have real les Paul's to. But just saying...you want $150 for that one ..the looks alone is worth keeping so what if you gotta upgrade a bit.
I still find this video kind of funny in a way because different parts of the guitar that we think are authentic are actually licensed and still made in china.. The licenses are then relicensed again under a different name and so on and so on. The days of true America made guitars are very few and far apart.. Im just saying.
Where does one get these Chinese guitars? I have an Epiphone acoustic electric that’s pretty damn awesome. Can’t remember where it was made but Thailand possibly?
Getaways and Guitars 😆. I may stick with Epiphone. Build quality is consistent, never had issues with tuners and I can read reviews. Even play one at a guitar store (remember that? 😆). Visited Guitar Center for the first time in 10 years. Very few new Amplifiers, mostly just smaller combos and maybe 2 new half stacks.
A Tusq XL nut, and Grover 18:1 Tuneomatics cure many ills experienced with some Chibson guitars. Still worth the dough however, since stock Gibson guitars require modification after the fact i.e. better hardware such as wiring harness upgrade, better pup upgrade, original aluminum stop tail pieces, etc..
I'm not going to spend $4K on a lefty Gibson (Quilted Maple/Flamed Maple) Memphis ES-335 guitar only to end up pulling the wiring harness and pickups and possible tuners for better quality parts. I'm truly glad that some people are "satisfied" with their stock $K Gibson guitars. A good many guitarists "Are Not" satisfied with what Gibson offers in the way of stock parts and one of the many reasons why so many Gibson lovers piss and moan about their Gibson guitars. Some people love their Gibson pups but to my ears the Burst Bucker Pro's and 57' Classic humbuckers are "one dimensional" and hard sounding geared more towards metal and not blues or classic rock tones. I have (2) 57' Classic hb sets and (2) Burst Bucker Pro hb sets in boxes should I ever sell my Gibsons. I don't like "potted" pups or symmetrically wound coils since they don't allow for open articulated tone w/overtones. Potted ISN'T vintage spec. Why Gibson doesn't offer potted or un-potted versions of their vintage pup line is beyond me.
So... If you think it would your only fooling yourself.
You can buy anything you want. It's your life. Orville Gibson sold the company in 1944; after that year there's really no such thing as a real Gibson anyway. The highest bidder just bought the logo and quality has varied over the years.
Doubt they are fooling anyone for $300 or whatever It's basically an Ephiphone for cheaper. Nice top too. As long as you know what you are buying. It's like saying don't buy Predator engines from Harbor Freight, they are ripping Honda off. They don't say Honda but they are a Honda clone. And don't last as long or cost as much.
Getaways and Guitars I think epiphone lp is better than the gib for various reasons! Big price difference to be disappointed. The lp never stays in tune and Gibson know this!
For $200 or $300 (not sure your exchange rate), I'd assume I would have to change all electronics and tuners. That will cost you about $100 and your guitar looks amazing. Meanwhile hundreds of luthiers in Memphis just got laid off.
that was crazy especially when your guitar almost died out with the bridge pickup hah!!...really sad ..lucky you, looks like have a good insight how the whole guitar mechanics works..not all does ...I recently bought a super cheap LTD.eclipse 256 ..looks very similar to this one in colour and extremely satisfied....the last feedback part of this video..pretty sure Hendrix would have loved it 😂...nice video 🌞
A left handed guitar player like myself,is very tempted by these Ali Express LH version of the exact guitar in the video! Why? In 2007 I bought an Epiphone left handed black 2 humbucker Custom, and with NO CASE the original price was $1,599.00! My mate was able to knock off $500,but still $1,100 AUD(Australian Dollars) in cardboard box, terrible soft metal materials(except the supposed Grover machine heads),cheap shit pickups, and recently I've broken the headstock TWICE...mahogany balsa wood? In 2011 I unfortunately bought an ebay genuine 2010 Gibson Les Paul Studio, unfortunate as it's ebay, and you do not get to inspect the item in your own hands,it featured(without extra cost :/) a BACK BOWED neck!!,like someone had decided to tighten the truss rod nut up with an auto mechanics IMPACT WRENCH turned up to ? Arrrrgggghhhh. With the truss nut(s) at full loose,it still has a rearward curve-the teeniest consolation was that it was verified as genuine by Gibson USA through the serial no.,but it's basically a fucked up Gibson in a lovely black Gibson USA case that cost $1,750 AUD..all very embarrassing(sellers disappeared overnight),very sad, annoying, and totally burned,so to be blatantly honest ATM the $350 AUD,some are $400 AUD all are free delivery to Australia, the lefties, are actually looking better by the minute. In the meantime my Ibanez 84 left handed RS-135 Ibanez(only the reshaped basswood body, and the neck plate, are the only Ibanez bits left!) Parts o caster, with genuine German fine tuner Floyd Rose Chrome luckily(1 of the 1st one's in Oz-right handed bridge, with a left handed nut came in the box from the US to Perth in Jan.1985...classic)with a Seymour Duncan 'tilted' JB bridge, and 2 noiseless (way lower output-dirty sound on the JB,switch to an OBL, instant clean),but authentic 'single coil sound' OBL pickup guitar I've used for 95% of 33 years is still going strong.(thank #*&^) :d
Ask yourselves . Why the fuck does a telecaster cost $4,+thousand . It costs fender Under 100 $ to make a tele . A guitar is worth whatever someone is prepared to pay .
I just bought a fake les paul custom and look very nice but doesn't play that nice as they're poorly made and are expensive for the quality they have. For example i got easily that very disturbing feedback that you can hear at last part of the video, how to correct it then ? If you want something nice to put on your wall you can buy one of these guitars but keep in mind that with the same money you'll buy a better guitar at your local store or on ebay...
Its pretty easy to wax pot the pickups so they don't feed back. I just melted a large candle in a pot and dipped the pickups in it a few times! Or you can always buy some new Pups ;0)
yes I saw your other vids now where you mention those pups...been thinking of putting some tesla sharks or blues engines in my epiphone, but I'm not 100% convinced they'll improve my sound. my epi sounds pretty nice to me as it is, maybe iron gear would ring a bit better idk. but if i get a chibson afd I'd definitely put sharks in
I have a 92 Gibson les Paul studio ebony fretboard guitar is a beast, ok what that said as much as I don't care for these counter fit guitars and think they are crap I find it more annoying that GIBSON has people checking sites and going after these people making these videos if GIBSON cared more about quality than quantity than maybe people wouldn't buy these guitars and upgrade them to play and sound like a real one, best advise for chi%^## buyers (Don't want any issues with using that name, lol) save up buy a used Gibson late 80's early 90's or 90's or early 2000's Epiphone (Korea made) and you'll be set with a guitar that will last forever 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
I cant understand why people buy these & I feel sorry for people that buy them from some one that knows they are knock offs but sell them as the real deal
Hello! Can you tell me about the neck profile? 50' or 60 slim taper? I don't Know if all chibson guitar have the same thick neck profile. i've asked other people about that and received same answer. thick profile like 50' or something close to it.
What do you expect for a lowsy £127??? Ok, it has a 2 pce body and a fineer top, pickups are microphonic, but you can wax them (dip them in a mixture of 20% beeswax and 80% parafine) and you they don't wistle on the highest volume with all the distortion you can think of. That leaves you with one faulty tuner. I bet that the chinese manufacturer will sens you a replacement for free over the mail. Look on youtube for a video what POS Gibson sells you for $ 2800,-. A guitar far worse than you get compared to the most awfull Chibson. I owned dozens of original Gibsons. Les Pauls, from a '54 to recent years, and other models. But also have some Aliexpress custom build replica's with a nitrocellulose paintjob, real mother of pearl inlays and 17° degree headstock angle. Plus finest solid maple top etc. Yes, even the original '58/59 LP standards that people pay between $300K and $500K for have celluloid fretboard inlays. Ofcourse you pay a bit more, about $500, but than you have a guitar that can match up to one from Gibsons customshop that will cost you between $8.000 and $10.000,-. And don't forget the 3,7% duties plus around 20% VAT when you have it shipped to Europe. Don't complain when you buy a guitar from the other side of the planet inclusive shipping for only £127,- and it is not 100%. What do you expect for that money?
Well, 8 years have past, and guess what ? You can still get a real lemon if you buy a Chibson. However there are builders in China who are doing remarkably good work. It all depends on who built your guitar. For $ 300.00 Can. It is worth a shot. You never know. I have a Chibson Les Paul Custom, that is built every bit as good as Epiphone, at half the price
I would love it if the customs agents started showing up to peoples houses and arresting them for receiving counterfeit merchandise...by the time people get done with paying lawyers, you should have just bought a real Gibson.
This vid made me want to buy a Chibson.
Cool, you will fool no one and get laughed at by anyone who knows about guitars.
Which seller are you using?
Congratulations Telly Caster! I also have some Epiphone copies made in China and they have incredible design and even sound, SORRY FOR THE ONES WHO ARE STUBBORN AND DON'T WANT TO SEE THE REALITY, The Chinese are making and surpassing The original ones! The Les Paul company is the responsible for the fact of not reducing the price of their expensive guitars! I´m happy that the Chinese are giving us the opportunity to buy beautiful copies at very low prices with incredible sound and quality and at the same time they are helping thousands of talented boys who aren't able to afford an "original Les Paul or Epiphone"
jeje blahblah
sometimes it's hit and miss
I got a 335, actually its more like a 355. The headstock is strangely about 1/2 longer than a gibson, I set it up and dressed the frets and its as good as any Gibson.
IN SHORT, there are tons of guitars out there as good as Gibson for way less money. Funny how just a name gets so many peoples panties in a bunch
i own 2 lespauls and an american tele. i agree 100% with you. i like them but i they are just to expensive i think. my last one is ok. gibson lespaul. 2017. gold. tribute. usa. 1000$ cd. if we forget about the bindings and frills. it feels like my 2600$ lp. i realy think that if they want to survive the new reality. they need to do this. good gtrs for less.
I own and Agile. Good enough for me lol.
@@GetawaysandGuitars My dad bought me a Gibson as my first guitar. They're not without need of tweaking.
A lot of people seem happy with theirs!
I have lots of guitars, I have heard lots of players on lots of guitars,...a shitty guitar player can make a great guitar sound shitty, a great guitar player can make a shitty guitar sound good...so goes the story of life.
You got that right brother.
true that.
I've heard IDIOTS produce "cats in heat" noise on $5K+ instruments (some have DOZENS of them) and MUSICIANS playing the cheapest Squire and making wonderful music.
BTW - there's an abundance of the former and a deficit of the latter.
Not if the pickup is disconnected …
The guitar sounds all right to me it looks fabulous I don't know what everybody's complaining about
I have bought % guitars from Aliexpress, maybe just lucky but all mine were fine.
To some extent, just buy a better guitar to begin with ;0)
my second guitar was a univox cherry les paul copy i bought it in 1981 for $100 i loved it and it made me wanna learn and play more copy's have been around forever there great for a person starting out it is not worth spending $2500 for a new real one you mite give it up
I went through the whole cycle, and should of just bought the real deal.
+Old Guy Yeah I'm thinking about doing a blind sound test with my two Gibby's!! ;0)
That's definitely not the worst Chibson I've ever seen.
As for these guitars, you get what you pay for, they look nice but lots of corners get cut, and buyer beware buying used.
lpdog lol, epiphone headstock Is ok. Really? Complaining for the headstock? Lol, atta fool
lpdog, Epiphone is not a budget line thought up by Gibson in the 70's, it has a long musical history of it's own over 140 years. Looks only matter if you can't play worth a shit!
Epiphone headstock is horrible. 100%agree with you. Thought it only bugged me :)
Epiphone came around before Gibson. That's the original Les paul headstock.
This is why ya buy replacement tuners. You can get a decent set for $50 which makes your cheap guitar even better as the woods are pretty solid.
. . . and cut by a computer controlled milling machine using the same files as the epiphone guitars.
Good on you, for putting this back up. They just draw more attention to the "Chibsons" by issuing take down notices to innocent You Tubers.
I can't understand why Gibson would be upset. A Chinese company is brazenly selling counterfeits of their products and people are fine with it. I've seen several of these counterfeits and the people who bought them had to put a ton of money in them so they can play decently.
People do put a ton of money into gibson parts to make the chibsons sound great. Ofc gibson's not gonna be sad about it
ton of money ? its easy to learn to set up a guitar its easyer than playing it
Well you can get a guitar Plek'd.

TRUTH!!! They are Jealous, period!!! I used to BE that person, until I Got a Les Paul myself.......BEST guitar I ever owned.
hi pal ,could not help it ! i went and got one ,put gibson vintage pots & bumble bee's on it ,seymour duncan pearly gates ,neck &bridge , good tuners , now it's a great wee guitar ,good project ,would never sell it ,keep it in the family eh ,cheer's pal
Cool! I'm looking forwards to a video, you can certainly rip up a fretboard ;0)
will do so as !
Totally Disagree My Ace Frehley Chibson is the best 200 bucks I ever spent! Take your time read the dealer reviews and shop!!
Cool!! It's a lot of guitar that you can put together for a little outlay!!
David Wang Unfortunately its not illegal to purchase the guitars, only illegal to sell the guitars.
TheWaterbound07 i know right mr wanna be lawyer. im sure hes 1w and took 2 hrs googling what to type
Maybe you got the good one? #playauthentic
It cost less than £300 after all the problems were sorted but its still not a real quality made guitar! Save you pennies and buy the real thing ;0)
i bet you never played one of these guitars theirs no issues the sam factory winds the pickup search it eveyelectric comp. is made in taiweane spelled it wrong dont give a shit china
300 what what is that f in the real world we us the american standerd yeah and i butcherd the kings english
Less than 8000$usd.for gibson.
Cheers
"should" just pull the frets and put good ones on it, they'll be toast in no time if you don't.
The finish flaw on the cutaway horn makes me wonder if the top is just a thin laminate. Can't deny that it's a pretty guitar though.
+jimmyray Yeah!! its a very thin laminate like the Epiphones. Pretty but not a patch on my new guitar LOL - ruclips.net/video/E0nBQe8HXzY/видео.html
Saw dust.
I agree, only a Gibson is good enough - unless you can make you're own ;0)
ruclips.net/video/pTs-NDHOPkY/видео.html
Gut it, refret it, new pick ups , gotoh hardware (metric and drop right in) new pots, switch, jack and then rock n roll
Agree mate, if you cant afford a Gibson buy an Epiphone!
Grrr, they just can't get the center seam/bookmark right @2:45. Mine is the same. This is a nice finish too!
you call that problems... lol...ha...my Zakk Wylde Chibson showed up with a broken neck...
Beautiful guitar, but that issue with the laminate is crazy. It looks like they just did not have a piece quite big enough and went with it. Unreal! Good news is that looks like real mahogany underneath though.
What kind of pickups did you put in it?
+Greg P Yeah the mahogany looks really good too ;0) I fitted Iron Gear pups what a difference!!
"Thray aynch beynding" love it
The real deal here is: if the fret is good to play, if the guitar feels good, you just need to fix the electrical things , get some good pickups and youll have a decent piece of guitar there. They even made mahogany guitars... would definetly buy one of those.
i got an epiphone and super 100% satisfied. once i tried a gibson in a store and wasnt blown away
They are fun to setup the neck per Gibson specs. If you can work the neck bugs out, they have Epi pickups so it's as nice as an Epiphone version, as far as I can see. I have this same one. Sounds as good as the real ones I use to have!
How it sounds now and compared to the real thing!! - ruclips.net/video/9Sk_lBSjRSQ/видео.html
I enjoyed watching the journey!
Cheers ;0)
have one, changed tuners and reworked the frets. plays like a charm. next will be some new pick ups. build a chinese copy kit telecaster. used that body and neck as base to build me a custom tele that plays just as good as my vintage tele, aounds even better cause of the custom pick ups. so sue me.
They can be a solid instrument after the work. As long as you know what you're doing. ;0)
Beautiful guitar, and the problems that guitar have, is easy to fix, so dont cry like a baby! You spend 180 bucks man! No 3000!
I did fix it up! If you check my other videos you'll see what I did. I still much prefer my $3000 Gibson LP Traditional or my $1200 LP Studio ;0)
Chibson is fantastic, old people hate it , the youth loves it. Thank you China for bringing the prices to an acceptable level. A new Gibson will have to go lower in price, so all good, everyone is a winner baby!
I have been looing at dozens of chibson. I really wanted to watch the video but there was no volume, what drag...
I just checked and there was plenty of volume on my PC and phone mate!
thanks, I will look into it, my laptop never was very loud for me, too much loud rock music when I was a young child has damaged my hearing...I have some extension speakers for the laptop, it boosts the volume up to 10 watts, not a lot but at least I will be able to hear it.
Workmanship can be very varied so you pay the price and take the risk. I've ordered one recently. I only hope they do a better job than this one!
Very true!
Was that a bit of Thin Lizzy you played there....nice guitar
+Rhoads8182 Yeah!! My fav's. Lots more Lizzy and Gary Moore on this video after I done the upgrades - ruclips.net/video/9Sk_lBSjRSQ/видео.html
order one with a custom headstock, it costs about 10.00 usc. mix and match headstocks and bodies, have some thing mader for you
I have two, put new nut a roller bridge and new pickups what new CST parts and tonepros three-way switch and now they sound great but I prefer my epiphone's.
As I keep seeing these alie express or chibsons, all I can think is Epiphone really needs to step it up...
Where do you think the Epiphone Les Paul is made?
teleman5678 my thoughts exactly lol
I couldnt anyway. cheers.
Yeah PRS made the mistake of giving the Koreans the CNC files and the chinese had them the next day.
LOVE THE DISAPPOINTING LOOKS!
I think it looks great -- what specifically disappointed you?
Cool review. I just got one, I did a review as well. They are definitely playable with a bit of work.
Yeah! It looks like you got a better made one than me ;0)
Glad you got your 8th chibson sound and safe
This is the one and only! Never again, its just cheaply built crap. Only a Gibson is good enough ;0)
@@GetawaysandGuitars you sold the other ones? when and who ? tell us.
@@britishboxer6875 Read the above comment, slowly and carefuly ;0)
@@GetawaysandGuitars how many did you REALLY order, dont be afraid, you serve th same time in prison for selling one so 10 wont change anything..
of course, what do you expect? ... you get what you pay for.
It's a beautiful guitar! Would you buy another one in the future? And which seller did you purchase it from on AliExpress?
No! Been there done it! ;0)
Where does one get these Chinese guitars? I have an Epiphone acoustic electric that’s pretty damn awesome. Can’t remember where it was made but Thailand possibly?
Aliexpress if you want to chance your luck with the customs!
I've not found a need to change anything on my Gibson's. Look at all the stars who play or often play stock guitars as well.
I can never understand this: If they can make guitars so good why don't they make their own brands instead of faking?
No one would want it.
thank s for the test,,,,,,,
So... I get a lot of negative comments here about this guitar - Why not buy a real Gibson or Epiphone! Stop sending money to these counterfeiters!! ... Well I've got two Gibson LP's and an Epi so I feel I
can make a reasonable argument for and against these copies. At the end
of the day they feel cheap and a bit toy like! Even when you sort the
fretwork, pickups, pots and machine heads its still going to feel no
better than a Epiphone copy. A nicer headstock maybe but it would never
fool a real Gibson owner. If you think it would your only fooling
yourself.
Epiphones fool real Gibson owners though...
Antarctica Safari Africa totally true
For $200 or $300 (not sure your exchange rate), I'd assume I would have to change all electronics and tuners. That will cost you about $100 and your guitar looks amazing. Meanwhile hundreds of luthiers in Memphis just got laid off.
they'll be hired a plenty to do setups of guitars, just like they would be had the user bought a taylor, martin, or gibson.
that was crazy especially when your guitar almost died out with the bridge pickup hah!!...really sad ..lucky you, looks like have a good insight how the whole guitar mechanics works..not all does ...I recently bought a super cheap LTD.eclipse 256 ..looks very similar to this one in colour and extremely satisfied....the last feedback part of this video..pretty sure Hendrix would have loved it 😂...nice video 🌞
Your title identifies it as a Chibson so why blur the brand identifiers?
From what i’ve seen the best guitars are not made in the US but rather made in Japan. They have an amazing attention to detail.
I'm happy with my Three US made Gibsons and Fender Standard Strat, Oop's I may have let a couple of cats out the bag there!!
Chibsons are not guitars but beautiful souvenirs...
Ask yourselves . Why the fuck does a telecaster cost $4,+thousand .
It costs fender Under 100 $ to make a tele .
A guitar is worth whatever someone is prepared to pay .
the obsesion for get a "les paul" is incredible. Better go with a luthier and build them one.
What's the point of blurring and hiding the Gibson logos? If you think they shouldn't be on there you could have specified that when you ordered.
The point was I got a letter from Gibson's IP lawyer threatening to remove the video unless trademarks were removed!
It's a well-built guitar. I'd buy it.
Or you can always buy some new Pups ;0)
iron gear pick ups... £70 a set... very popular these days
Exactly what I fitted! Iron Gear Hot Slag and Rollin Mill - I Recommend the coil tap pots too ;0)
yes I saw your other vids now where you mention those pups...been thinking of putting some tesla sharks or blues engines in my epiphone, but I'm not 100% convinced they'll improve my sound. my epi sounds pretty nice to me as it is, maybe iron gear would ring a bit better idk. but if i get a chibson afd I'd definitely put sharks in
what's the weight like compared to a genuine one
+Ellis Sinnott Hi mate it's about half the weight of my Les Paul traditional!! about 5lbs as opposed to nearer 10lbs. Think more SG than LP LOL
The picture on your video is a real Gibson.
No mate its not! It is this guitar, I changed the bridge for an ABR-1 type and changed the pickups!
Too true mate! I have a 92 Gibson Les Paul Studio with ebony fretboard it is also a beast ;0)
Excuse me, where did you buy it? and could you tell me which the web site is?
It was Melody guitar Aliexpress - Not great!
I cant understand why people buy these & I feel sorry for people that buy them from some one that knows they are knock offs but sell them as the real deal
People complaining about a 250$ guitar copy because of finish imperfections and shitty hardware. 🙄 Clearly you don’t understand the appeal.
Hello! Can you tell me about the neck profile? 50' or 60 slim taper? I don't Know if all chibson guitar have the same thick neck profile. i've asked other people about that and received same answer. thick profile like 50' or something close to it.
Its a slim 60's style more like my Les Paul Traditional than the '59 style baseball bat neck on my LP Studio ;0)
hi people tell you what i witched the pick ups to dragon fire screamers for the price how cant you argue, you get what you pay for
What do you expect for a lowsy £127???
Hey the early pre paf humbuckers from gibson were unpotted and microphonic
ok looks good but who do you go through to buy it and don't say allexpress its too vague thanks
It was a company called Melody guitars - TBH there are only a few places that make these but many sellers!
The bridge has been put on backwards the screws should be facing downwards not up
+ANDREW PARKER Yeah, I've seen them fitted both ways! It doesn't bother me Lol
Check out some LP reissues with ABR-1 bridges this is how they fit them so the strings don't catch the adjustment screws!
??????????????????????????????????.........Why did you blur out the inscriptions on the headstock?
+REEFBLUENOTCH I got a lawyers letter from Gi**on's lawyer saying it was an infringement of their copyright!!
Jeez!
Looks pretty
I would love it if the customs agents started showing up to peoples houses and arresting them for receiving counterfeit merchandise...by the time people get done with paying lawyers, you should have just bought a real Gibson.
Thanks! I just put in an order
Enjoy, I hope its playable! ;0)
Need to put your pickups in wax. It keeps the reverb down
You mean feedback! I changed them anyway, wax dipped them and re used them in a Squire Strat! ;0)
Getaways and Guitars ..yea my bad I just did mine too.
