  • Kinetic object with 32 independently moving lines. Controlled by an integrated computersystem. The video shows some of the constantly changing ordered and random structures that appear and disappear. Dimensions: 4.12m. X 2.49m. X 0.23m. 2007 - 2010.

    Really beautiful. every time I feel that I "see", the structure changes and my optic ability changes with it. Could not stop watching this. Great piece of art.

    It has 8 fixed points lined up in 2 rows x 4 columns. Each points has 4 equal length black sticks attached to them and each stick has independent movement. (Something like our wrist watch). Probably driven by servo motors and the movements are software programmable. Truly minimalist, simplicity and innovative at its best.

      Can you explain to me what makes this dynamic?

      Do you know how to reacreate it but unprogrammable? I want to reacreate it but engine driven..

      And the size of it is the cherry on the cake.

    This is the kind of "post-modern" art I like. Not that bullshit where they put random droplets of paint onto the canvas and call it a masterpiece.

    Watch carefully. It is actually like a set of eight four-handed clock dials. The centers are in two horizontal rows of 4. Because the "hands" are of equal length, and the length approximately equal to the spacing of the centers, the sculpture can create the illusion of up to 5 lines coalescing into one. The "hands" are mounted on co-axial tubes, just like in a clock. The lighting and photography help to hide the mountings. Everything else is programming for the drive motors - all 32 of them.

    32 small stepper motors, timing belts and relative gears ! Every 4 lines are connected via coaxial shafts. I'll be interested more in the software instead !

  • @Mskvaer

    Just looking at it seems there are 8 points, which each have 4 "hands" the same way a clock has 2 "hands" (3 with the seconds). 32 stepper motors controlling it. Simple in priciple, but idea is fantastic! and it needs doing accuratly to look good.

  • @BradenBest

    4:16 I figured it out, there's 8 points on the board, each with 4 hands that freely rotate around them.

    4:03 gives the mechanics away (I think). Looks like 8 sets of 'clock' hands type mechanism (concentric axles), except all the hands are equal length and each are individually moveable. Very cool!

    • @NZTechArc
      @NZTechArc 4 года назад

      At first I thought you were wrong and slightly crazy, so I looked more carefully and you are right. Also if you move your cursor along the timeline you can see more clearly there are 8 points that are fixed. At a number of points in the video you can definitely see 4 arms per clockface. actually simple concept, the distance between each is important

  • @vnesaa
