Sadly yes. She's underrated compared to other members in Korea. They do acknowledge her for her vocals but she's not as popular. I don't understand either why Korea sleeps on her. Nehal i've become a kpopers since 2007, so i think i dare to say my opinion about kpop fans in general. Most of kpop fans are more attracted to visual/face/body and compared to those kind of fans there are only a few of them who are really care/appreciated the music itself/ the members who are in charge of vocal(most of main vocals in kpop groups are underrated/not appreciated enough), but yeah everyone have their own preferences, its just such a pity and sad to see that members who got the most singing lines (main vocals) are the one who got the least hype/attentions.

DID YOU KNOW that Wendy used to sound so much better prior to debut? she actually over worked her vocal cords during trainee days and developed vocal cord nodules, which were later surgically removed. However, removing them does NOT fix the damage on the vocal cords and in most cases it changes their voice. The fact that she was able to hit the SHINE ON ME legendary line even after that just shows how much of a great vocalist she is. Unfortunately she did say on a show (unnies) that she is sometimes afraid of forcing higher notes which could affect her again.
i dont think she had the surgery though? I cant remember which one, but on a radio show, the dj asked her the hardest day for her and she revealed her vocal nodule issue and i swear she said she only took medicine? i may be wrong though

In terms of vocal technique, Wendy is by far the most skilled singer of this generation. I've taken voice lessons for 5 years, so I know what I'm talking about haha. She has a huge range and she can support her sound fully. Her breathing and placement are perfect when she sings live too.

fans complained about the line distribution within group member. obliviously, in any group, the main & lead vocal will get more line. the composer will distribute the line according which member that he think can carry that line the best. sometimes, the line is already distribute evenly. however, when certain member can't carry/sing that line well, the line will be given to other member... or they will switch part/line.

wendy is the backbone of red velvet. everytime you say "wow rv has many great songs and amazing vocals". it is all thanks to her wide range and versatile singing style. even though she doesn't sing every part during live stages, but you have no idea how much vocal layering that she does in recording for every single song. i am certain more than 50% of their songs is sung by her. maybe 80-90%.
You know what I noticed... sm did with Wendy the same thing they did to taeyeon. Both Wendy and taeyeon have deeper voices so sm make them sing in a higher pitch to sound more feminine. You can clearly see how deep her voice is in Be Natural. Compared to recent songs, her voice is higher. She has a soulful voice but sm is trying to push her to sound pop.
