    The schools shut down my sons first year of Kindergarten. So we thought for 1st grade we would do the virtual learning through the school and it was a nightmare. So as afraid and nervous as I was we jumped into homeschooling the last half of first grade and it was awesome. We loved it so much we are homeschooling again this year! We may never go back to public school. I’m thankful for being thrown into this journey as it’s become something I love! The freedom and peace we have this year has been so worth the hard days. I really enjoyed this video. Thanks!!

      I'm so happy for you!! Just remember, YOU don't have to already know everything. You are learning alongside with him. You are showing him how much fun it is to learn. Instilling the love of learning, knowing how to think things through, thinking outside the box, critical thinking skills, is so rewarding and will be a great asset for the rest of his life. I hope that made sense.

I love your channel and it is reassuring to feel like there are other moms out there willing to take all the difficult steps for creating a future where it will be our kids leading.

    "Let your homeschool reflect what's happening in your life." Wisdom! I am loving our current homeschool season -- it's one that allows for a few more of the 'extras' right now, but I know that other times will come when scaling back down to the essentials will be the wisest choice.

      In your opinion is it ok to begin homeschool in the middle of the school year? Public school is failing my 4th grader. I have to do something

    • @moodsofkiwi9285
      @moodsofkiwi9285 2 года назад +2

      @@Beastiscntrlr I have seen it done before and yes, I think you could do it mid-school year! I do think it depends on the reason he’s struggling. Is it due to the poor public education system (ex. Class size, low quality teacher, curriculum choices)? If so then I think pulling him out mid-year is a great idea since he’s not gaining anything from a public school environment. If it’s due to any learning disabilities, then I’d probably seek out a 405 plan, IEP, or see if there’s accommodations he can get within the public school environment until he finishes the school year (to see if that’s all he needs). I’m sorry your little one is struggling. It’s hard to do well in public education and a lot of children do get left behind.

      @@moodsofkiwi9285 thank you! His grades plummeted after one semester of virtual last year! He ended spring barely passing 3rd. He is ending this semester with a 70 in English and 73 in math. I’ve reached out multiple times to his teachers about sending home practice work or giving me their objectives so I can help. He doesn’t even have a book to bring home. He NEVER has English homework and once a week he has math homework. He just can’t get the help he needs. Not to mention a classmate tried to fight him in the restroom 😩 it’s all become too much for me. I absolutely don’t think he has a learning disability though. He just needs some one on one help.

    Here I am again, praying about homeschooling. I am very concerned about sending my 8 year old daughter who is deaf back to public school. School starts in less than two weeks and it was just announced that masks will be mandatory for all staff and students. I believe with my whole heart that this is child abuse for her. She relies so much on lip reading and facial cues. Prayers would be appreciated.

    I taught first and second grade for 11 years until I got Lyme Disease and got very ill. I’m at the end of the 11 years and the pandemic hit. I was horrified for my children to do this virtual school thing. So I dove in feet first and homeschooled two out of three of my children. I had one 8th grader and one 4th grader. It was the hardest year in my teaching career but the best. We used Gather Round last fall and it was great!!! My boys learned so much!! My youngest wanted to continue with me for a second year so we are back at it this year and I couldn’t be happier. I’m so happy that homeschooling came into my life and that I have a chance to teach my kids. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with curriculum. It really does help a lot. ♥️

    I have 2 boys, my oldest being 3 years old and I am just starting to dabble in researching homeschooling. I never thought I would, never wanted to, it had really never crossed my mind as an option. But with all of the changes I’ve seen in the last few years with whats being accepted, what’s being taught, and what’s being pushed onto our children - I feel this yearning to protect my children. And homeschooling is a huge way I can do that. It’s so overwhelming to me, I was never homeschooled so I don’t have anything to go off of, it just feels so daunting! I feel like I’m not smart enough to be their teacher, that I’ll be giving them a subpar education and that’s my biggest fear. I’ve been watching so many of your homeschooling videos (& others as well) to get my mind wrapped around the possibility. Thank you for sharing. 🖤

I constantly feel like us parents see kids behave this way on the playground, at sports, etc that's pure regurgitation from the garbage on tv and movies they're watching. I find it mind-boggling that so many parents shrug it off, completely ignore it while they're on their phones or gossiping, or else make excuses for why they have to let their kids watch this stuff. I'm constantly torn, because the behavior then gets picked up by other kids, or the kids who aren't involved in it feel bullied or left out.

    I am not homeschooling quite yet, but when i start I will definitely rewatch a bunch of your videos! 💜😊 so good and practical. Thank you!!
    I completely agree about reading! My 4 siblings and I all read so much for school growing up a ton. We learned so so much from it! I have 4 and 2yr old girls and they already love reading and collecting books. My husband and I feed it as often as possible by reading to them and buying as many as possible.
    Your ideas and life are so much how my parents did us in homeschooling💜. We had a farm and my mom even taught us things like sewing, baking, cooking supper, home making, she had us go through a manners book together as well and we all did music and learned instruments We all had our things we did on the farm and we all LOVED it!! 😊
    Makes me so happy to know these ideals are still around!! Oh and I grew up with no TV and we learned just fine! We went places and did so many field trips during school and since my dad was a preacher we lived all different places! I dont feel like we missed out at all!! 🙂

      @@homeschoollifemom there’s a BUNCH of science behind this curriculum. It’s even recommended for Dyslexia. There’s a study now pushing public schools around USA to use this curriculum to teach reading.

      @@blairbardot53 yes. I had heard ppl talk about it but I hadn’t realized it was for struggling readers/dyslexic children until my friend recommended to me for my struggling reader since it worked well for her dyslexic daughter. I’m not sure my son is dyslexic but ‘normal’ learning to read programs are not working
      For him.

    • @blairbardot53
      @blairbardot53 2 года назад

      @@homeschoollifemom it’s actually for ALL readers. The Science of Reading describes it as the legit way of teaching successful reading comprehension for everyone. The thing is that it can also be used on struggling readers but it’s for everyone. My son was an amazing reader before we got the curriculum, I decided to purchase it because of the science behind. It ended up boosting those abilities. Sometimes kids can read amazing BUT lack of comprehension, this curriculum does both , my son was lacking of the comprehension part and now , we just finished level Blast Off to Reading , and woooow ! The level seemed easy when I glanced it but once in depth , SO SO GOOD .

      @@blairbardot53 oh ok. Good to know. I thought it was geared towards struggling readers. I’ll prob use it for the rest of my kids if it works well for him.

    Oh and we loved “All about reading” too! But if you are in a season where you don’t have as much time as a parent, we used Gather Rounds “ready to read” with our third and I was blown away at how quickly she was reading and with way less time invested. A very solid program as well.

    English is not our first language. But my daughters started reading books in English when they were about 12 or 13 years old. And now one of them is at the university to become a English teacher. Their grades were not very good before starting to read and watch movies in English. Reading was so important to archive this level of education. 👍😃

    We are one year 2 homeschooling. I'm working on cutting the TV and junk for my kids because I've seen the negative impact as well. I have 6 kids, but only two are really doing school work (3 preschool aged & 1 is a toddler) and we are trying easy peasy, real science odyssey, and curisotiy chronicles this year. I felt like last year I bought a bunch and we ended up not loving a lot of it & stopping so I'm trying to not spend so much this year while we continue to find what works for us. It's so hard to decide what to use! There's so much out there! I did buy the Not consumed book studies because because seemed great but I havent incorporated it yet. We are only 1 week in this year but so far it hasn't been too bad!

    Was wondering if you’d report back on Gather Round. We did the curriculum last year, 4 units in total. I used it with littles all the way up to high school. It is hard to “gather” multiple ages (especially when there’s a big gap) but we loved the curriculum. And now we’re all in. It was game changing for my high schoolers last year. They learned so much and we had such meaningful conversation, etc.
