DJI didn't do that because it reduces flight time. The legs hinder the down force of the props, reducing flight time, not to mention the additional weight and cost. But it looks cool.

Nice. It made me giggle too. I asked the same question out loud before you even said it. Why didn't DJI do that? Somebody (maybe everybody) in DJI's R & D department was asleep.

that's pretty cool, thanks for showing us. Some reason watching the hotel room scene gave me an idea. For those of us who don't have experience flying fpv I think it would be interesting to see how much stick movement a good pilot uses. Maybe the next time you're filming somebody you could get a close-up on the sticks?

I have had the idea that a sensors of some kind combined with the 6 axis accelerometer could be used to detect pending impact, stop the rotors and deploy airbags. The same could be used with those legs assuming the parameters are in spec. My airbag was just going to be a couple of mylar balloons. I have not figured out how to inflate them though. It would need to be fast and good (light and reliable), so it probably will not be cheap in the final version, but a small bottle of compressed gas (heavy but reliable) would do for testing. Feel free to run with the idea, patents on the basic idea have long since expired, but there might be something in the inflator worth something if you figure it out.

100% agree, DJI should of done this with the Phantom, especially where it has fixed arms. Can the camera come off, if so that'll make transporting it very easy
I wonder if you put some wing type curved plastic on the landing gear and when it's in retracted position if it would add time of flight because of uplift.

That was super cool. Haven't seen you at a loss for words very much. Makes sense, if it works and you can make it better and keep it working, why not. I sold mine when I got my Air (Big Mistake) on my part. I loved it The P3's were really great Drones, DJI hit a homer right out of the box with that one. It's a shame they've killed the design. They could have made a P5 with this feature and drove the market crazy. Oh well, Hindsight.

The phantom 3's "4k" camera is horrible it looks like 720p at best, it's never about the resolution but the sensor quality, today's 1080p probably looks better than the 4k a few years ago.
