#MercedesAMG has been hard at work expanding their portfolio to include more attainable models that don't scare the average driver on the road. For 2020, the #CLA35 is the newest member of the family with standard 4Matic AWD, a turbocharged 2.0L engine with 302 HP, and a quick-shifting 7-DCT. It starts at $46,900 and offers all the necessary upgrades over your old hot hatch, it slots nicely between the CLA250 and upcoming #CLA45AMG.
I'm a 40 year old banking professional, married with two kids. I drive a 2019 Civic hatchback sport with a 6 speed manual, Ktuner, straight pipe, sport downpipe, and a cold airintake. I'll never grow up!!!

I’ve had this car for 4 months, in the identical spec and I absolutely love it. I get a lot of compliments about the sun yellow and black combo. The color really stands out. This video doesn’t do this color combo justice. Not to mention the interior lights at night look awesome.
How does the suspension feel in rough roads?

I bought one of these in April but did not buy a fully loaded model like this one. The car is fantastic. Handles well, good power with great traction. Incredible tech and it looks awesome. I will say you'd have to be drunk to buy one for 66k.

@@santiagocalderon3261 ikr the germans need to get their heads out the gutter. Coupe means 2 doors. Sloping roof line and shorter wheelbase are just the effects of two doors. You cant just add those and call it a coupe. Not surprised they been making junky vehicles for so long their vocabulary cant be that good either
This Benz is too heavy for a supposed "fun to drive nimble hot hatch". It's nearly 3,600 pounds! I would rather buy a 2020 Camry TRD V6 or 2020 Camry XSE V6. Similar horsepower, similar weight, similar handling etc. except the Camry will be 20 to 30 grand cheaper and much more reliable. Camry also has great interior and tech...

@Crixus The CLA is neither a sedan nor a hothatch. Its a coupe, atleast the one shown in the video, there is a shooting brake version aswell.
The black Civic looks more mature then the Dodge-Dart-lookin Mercedes in that yellow.
I can understand why this comparison happens. CLA has a hatchback version in Europe (CLA Shooting Brake) which is a sick design. But too bad North Americans, it is not available to us :(
I've driven an A35 hatch and it feels rapid. The A45s must be insane!
ApurtureSci I have the CLA250 for now because I got impatient and even this is hella quick. No exhaust noise whatsoever, but it makes awesome and pretty loud turbo sounds.
I'm thinking the Civic will be cheaper to maintain than the CLA

If MB offered the CLA in a sportback, then maybe we could compare it to a hot hatch. But I understand where you’re coming from. This is more the evolution of the buyer than a hot hatch equivalent for grown ups. Still, for $65K, I can think of several new cars and CPOs I’d take over this that would be just as sporty.
I can't believe how heavy some of these new cars are, especially out of Germany. 3500 lbs is ridiculous for any compact car at this point.
Thanks for the video. I’m actually in the market of buying either this or the Tesla model 3 perf. I’m a hardcore car enthusiast as well. I have an Subaru STI. However when I look at those two cars, the styling, build quality and such, the mercedez would seem to be a better choice here but I also need to think about the insurance money, depreciation value when I’m purchasing. So I think I’d have to go for the Tesla.

Honestly I know that the GLA 35 is more of a crossover than a hot hatch it is the one I would choose. Especially with the track aero package MMMMM BABY!

here in germany the Mercedes A45 S Hatchback has 421 PS and base price is 62000 Euro ( 70500 $ ) with Options you pay easy over 85000 Euro ( 96000 $ ), LOL for a small Hatchback.

Just picked up an ‘21 A35 for 47.4K OTD. It is all about not getting the options to make this a good deal. I fit the night package, premium package, lit up Star and upgraded rim/tire setup. Only option I missed on that I wanted was the burmester speakers.

@desertdetroiter yeah. I did get red paint at 500 bucks, but didnt get the amg sport seats or dynamic suspension. I did get the blackout package and black leather, not over the top. Too many better choices out there.

I don't get this. You can get a loaded Genesis G70 3.3T for $15k less. Mercedes is pricing themselves out of the market!
Exterior styling is nice if not quite good for a smaller sedan with pretensions. The one complaint would be those rear tail lights.
Couldn't be styled worse if you tried. Yet the exact opposite of the front which is exceptional. Guess they just ran out of energy when they did the back. Nice little car.
Gotta say, I do love these new interiors by Mercedez Benz. Used to love Audi's but their entire touch screen motif is seriously taking away from the interior experience (had an A7 Loaner for a month and it just felt so Blah).
Might have to consider this as a replacement to my A3

@@braetonwilson4296 Camry will never handle as good as this despite the weight. We're talking about some trick torque vectoring with strut bars and a much more reinforced chassis. Better dampers, and much better suspension geometry. No comparison, I’ve been in both.

No footage of usability of the back seats or trunk at all when trying to review a fun but still practical car.. the thing I'm actually interested in based on the short wheelbase and the slopping roof line I'm intrigued to see how it affected space in the back.
I make adult money and 55-65k on a car is way out of my budget. I don’t know what Mercedes’s response is, lease it or make a bad financial decision?

i have to question if this car is really that much nicer than a Golf R which you can get fully loaded for 42k and has that german feel.
You need to add rolling videos of the auto your reviewing. This would make your channel better imo.

Let's tell it as it is, the Civic Type R is the king of tack-on plastic all over the place, making it look horrible on a purely design perspective. On the other hand, the CLA 35 is well balanced from every angle. No contest on class and maturity.

Your "lead in" with the CIVIC Type R is not really persuasive as a comparison: look at the AMG's pricing; and its not a hatchback, as many have pointed out.
