About the Talk:
In her talk, Vivechana Saraf explores the significance of symbols in various aspects of life. She begins by introducing her work and passion for symbols and sacred geometry which was a spiritual practice in yesteryears. She explains the Sashtatara, a 6-pointed star symbol, and its relevance in the sacred geometry and numerical symbolism. Vivechana goes in to the details of the origin from a dot or ‘bindu’, diving to become two and then a transforming in a Six Petal Flower which is considered the blueprint of the universe and the basic geometry of carbon and graphene as well connecting symbolism with mathematical principles She explores the Yantra focusing on the meaning conveyed by upward and downward triangles, and emphasizes the role of symbols in our daily lives. Vivechana shares the symbolism of the Aurobindo Symbol, its significance in new creations and the number 6. She includes a prayer by Sri Aurobindo and guides the audience through a contemplation exercise, encouraging them to reflect on the profound meanings encapsulated in these symbols. The audience members then share their own mandala painting expressing the inspiration behind their creations, and meaning and interpretation of the same.
About the Speaker:
Vivechana Saraf is a talented artist, designer, and publisher who has been deeply immersed in the world of mandalas, sacred geometry, and symbols for more than 15 years. Her passion lies in exploring the profound meanings behind these symbols across different cultures, which she translates into her artwork and workshops through her company, Soulscapes. She has served as a Creative Director at one of India’s largest printing presses and headed AuroPublications, the publications division of Sri Aurobindo Society. She also played a pivotal role in setting up "AURA," a unique store in Pondicherry that offers handcrafted lifestyle products.
