Love the other world girl, she was something else. Good story. (Mississippi Gulf Coast, USA).

The AI voice is absolutely terrible. It has no ability to place tone or inflection. I had to concentrate more than I should have in order to follow the tone.
I don’t know what to think. The story had a fairly good overall start, beginning and end but it was repetitive and lacked critical details. What were the Nalkari infected with the virus for?
Who were the Galactic Union? Did they have several species in it and what did they have to gain from the seemingly natural extinction of the Nalkari? Now that the rest of the galaxy is aware of their crimes what will the consequences be? Yeah I’m still going.
So, the human crew who were the main protagonists of the story… Who were they? What were they? The utter lack of support from human law enforcement, government or military groups and the way the crew didn’t even try to call the human authorities suggests mercenaries or some kind of lone charity organisation.
But what did they have to gain by trying to save the Nalkari? Sure they were kind and it was the right thing to do but rare is the human who does anything without other motivations.
And then there are the rebels with an extremely improbable sense of timing to suddenly appear out of nowhere to aggressively take on Union forces to save the humans in the nick of time *twice*. Who are these rebels exactly? And they Nalkari, fighting the Union in a desperate last gasp before their species expires? Are they another species entirely? A mishmash of species with a grudge against the Union?
Why did these rebels respond to the human crew’s distress signal? When were their goals? What were they rebelling against and why?
Unfortunately the critical lack of details and the AI voice ruins this story. “As wide as an ocean but shallow as a puddle” springs to mind.
