Everyone's talking in "ifs" and "buts" about PS1 music being better than this, and yet no one's managed to mention the easiest comparison: Persona 1's music.

I see everyone saying this is SNES, but it's actually PSX. It's using the same soundfont as Final Fantasy VII, which was very low quality. Look up "Those Who Fight" and you'll see the similarity
K but that's like saying an RTX 3080 is capable of running at the same speed as a GTX 1080 (I went back 2 gens but really it should be more since the gap between the SNES and PS1 was a chasm instead of the increments we get today). FF7's soundtrack was early PS1, and just a few months later Uematsu was composing orchestral-sounding tracks for FF8. Of course the PS1 can sound like the SNES, but that's not what people think of when they hear "PS1 music," they think of orchestral or at least emulation-level music; Megaman X4-6 had electric guitars in their OSTs. The SNES still has chiptune-type sounds.

Devs can choose to use the PS1 sound chip for midi-esque arrangements or simply choose to use redbook or XA audio for the soundtrack of their games. It's been mentioned that FF7 was one of the notable games to use the sound chip rather than stream composed music from the disc.
I agree. The PS1 can play Redbook audio (see the Konami Bemani games like DDR, also no doubt this will span more than one disc so storage ain't an issue) and it's internal sound chip ain't no slouch either (FF7). Good effort though.

@@earthboundfan15CD audio is VERY different from MP3s, and a lot of PS1 games still had to use synthesised tracks due to the fact full audio wouldn't fit on CDs without taking up a lot of space
Why certainly a great cover, I feel that it lacks proper PS1 guitars and voices. The samples almost sound like they’re out of Megaman X3. Though I may simply be biased considering how far FFIX pushed the PS1 audio-wise.
