Loved the series before but the addition of the music really adds to things. It's been fun to watch Tom's acting and his production value evolve through the seasons.

I will definitely say, the NFC North is probably gonna be the most wacky of the divisions this year. Every team has some talent (unlike the NFC South), whether it be offensive or defensive, and could be a bloodbath this season. Everyone has to go against the Chiefs, the Chargers, and an NFC East foe. This is gonna be a fun division to watch this season
NFCN and NFCE meet. The weirdness singularity will be born

there’s not much succession to it, other than a couple aesthetic gestures and the “who will dad give the company to?” plot outline.
that said, Succession is good.
I rarely watch entire series. Unless something is amazing, I don’t make it far at all, but the amazing ones over time are ones I’ve seen through to the end.
Succession has basically nothing that makes a series interesting to me
- literally everyone sucks (with the Sole exception of a collection of minor characters who come and go with the sole purpose of being helplessly abused by fuckheads) and I want them all to just lose horribly so much that I’d be glad if an asteroid just ended them all and the series with it
- nothing anybody wants is anything other than (a) irrelevant or (b) despicable
- there’s not even characters who “suck less” to root for because even at that baseline it’s still just such a high level of POS suckage
- there’s nothing Psychologically interesting about it
- there’s nothing Socially interesting about it
- there’s nothing Politically interesting about it
- there’s nothing transcendent / metaphysical / spiritual about it at all
- there’s nothing relatable about it
- if you listed every single motivation of every single character in the thing the entire list would be [insecurity, greed, cruelty]
- there’s no life lessons other than to just avoid shitbags
- there’s no reviews of it or behind-the-scenes looks or writer/director/actor interviews that reveal layers or dimensions other than what’s apparent
- after 20 years of reality television, More scripted “who will persevere and get the thing” plots are nothing anyone is starved for
- the details of the plot are arbitrary and unmemorable, and only exist to facilitate the most mundane (or even inane) sociopathic shitbaggery
- it is literally nothing more than an extremely high-budget primetime soap opera
but,
on the other hand
- it’s what I’d call nonstop “gratuitous location/travel porn”, with just a continuing parade of seldom-repeated interiors, exteriors, and landscapes, shot with the most adept and compelling, so the designer and photographer in me just gets to eat candy at least half the time, and whenever it appears in grandiose setting transitions it comes with appropriately moving music, which brings us to…
- the scoring is as elegant as it is appropriately pompous
- it makes adept use of “camera as bystander” framing and blocking, which multiplies the pregnant gravitas of (again, stupid and irrelevant) moments (between useless shitbags who are as boring as they are weights upon humanity)
- a bunch of the actors are legitimately Excellent, including the great Brian Cox (of Bourne Identify/Supremacy, Adaptation, and Supertroopers fame of course), Ferris Bueller’s best friend, the brother of Home Alone / Party Monster, the accomplished Nan Cherry, Fisher Jones (who has a neck so freakishly thin that you can’t help but just stare and wait for his head to tilt slightly to the side and snap it), and others
- it Really captures unmitigated douchebaggery in a particularly cringe-worthy way
- it has a couple great episode names like “Shit Show at the Fuck Factory”
- the most important people lose in the most appropriate ways (which in some cases involves getting what they want), each proportional to the hole they dug for themselves, and the perspective they’re able to have on it
- oh yeah, and there’s some artful dialogue, and that’ll keep me hanging in there even when it’s all just stupid
They say “you can’t polish a turd”, but Succession is human turdery polished to the point that Louis XIV would admire his own reflection in it at Versailles
