It really is heartwrenching when you understand the lore of the experiments. When I figured it out around chapter 2 and had it confirmed in chapter 3 I was ready to join The Hour of Joy on the side of the toys. Chapter 4 only made it worse. A literal prison complex for their unwilling toy/servitors made from orphaned children. The literal mountains of living toy corpses... it paints the unspeakable scale of the company's evil and operation. We only know the experiment numbers up to 1300 before The Hour of Joy brought and end to the project, but those mountains of corpses? Those AREN'T COUNTED AS EXPERIMENTS. Each experiment was unique, and many were failures. All those small living toys you see from chapter 2 onwards? Those were just business as normal. They didn't even get experimental numbers. Hundreds, probably THOUSANDS of things that used to be children... and it only gets worse and worse from there. And that prison? They had the gall to call it The Shelf.

ON THE SURFACE. The thing is? It turns out the PlaytimeCi factory complex was built on top of a VAST cave network, which during the Cold War era was expanded and fortified- likely to ensure safety in the event of a nuclear apocalypse. This is the presumable reason why Playcare was seen as such a desirable orphanage despite being within the factory complex's grounds: It is buried literally hundreds of feet below ground in a place that would survive the apocalypse. This underground complex would expand out from that, growing to the size of what we presume to be a literal underground city on account of the fact that the locations in Project Playtime (a DBD-style game by the same IRL Developers set in the same universe) are canonically also within the factory complex's grounds, and they include a literal classical theater, additional factory areas, a massive incinerator/recycling complex, and more. With Chapter 4, we learned that they went even deeper and built a freaking SUPERMAX PRISON COMPLEX, a safehouse, mines, further construction tunnels that were incomplete when the toys rose up and killed everyone, and even further below that they built an underground lab. It's so big there are literal subway and pneumatic tube networks built just to get around the damn place. Honestly, it's practically a nation unto itself. How TF they could afford all of that construction beggars the mind.
