[Coury] As someone who is obsessed with backing up my save files, this seems like a big upgrade from the Retrode and GB01 that I currently use. Hopefully they'll be available to buy again sometime soon.
Hey Coury! These should be available again in the Spring. Definitely follow Sanni @CartridgeReader on Twitter for updates. Hope everything is well with you and Marc!
They've been available for years and still currently are. This guy (not Sanni) just took the open source project and cashed in on it without permission. You can build one yourself ruclips.net/video/7k2hb82uRVc/видео.html or buy one on Etsy. While the community is not opposed to assembling and selling these, crowdsourcing is not the route a lot have found to be in agreeance with.
@@MachoNachoProductions There's a bit of a misunderstanding here. Sanni, the creator of the open source project, is from Germany and not involved with the Kickstarter or that Twitter account.

The GB vs. GBA problem is odd since it was already solved by Nintendo themselves: A switch that is directly attached at the cartridge slot. It'd be good to have the voltage auto-detected by the type of cartridge you put in as a security feature, so you don't accidentally fry your games. But other than that this is really, really awesome!
That is a cool idea, however, repros require less power. Ex. SNES games require 5v, and repros are at 3.3v. N64 requires 3.3v, however, prototype carts require 12v through the barrel plug on the Arduino Mega. The risk of frying your games is not very high. You'd have to leave the cart on there for a significant amount of time to cause any harm. Versatility is the reason.
@@androxilogin But are there any changes with GB/GBA repros or flash carts? Cause that was specifically meant as an "overwrite" for the Game Boy carts, not any other console.
I already see a problem, and that's expecting the user to always select the correct voltage and settings, it's not trivial, but can be done to check which connector is populated and automatically set the correct settings. There should be no reason why the user should have to remember to manually set everything up beforehand, as I can see some very valuable carts being killed by user error.

See this is the type of device we need for the MISTer, to allow us to be able to play original carts. That would be awesome!! Simply allowing us to rip the ROMS off a cart is nice & all, but it's use is a bit limited when everyone has access to literally the entire game libraries for pretty much every system already. Kinda redundant. If you have some sort of rare prototype or something along those lines that u want to dump then yeah It'd be great for that. Cartridge slots on new stuff is notoriously grippy. Hopefully it doesn't damage the pins over time by scraping the metal. Still a nice device. Wish this existed before my link to the past save file got nuked.
Kinda wish it had a way to attach a CD reader to backup my CD based games as well. Would also be nice to have a general port that could read memory cards as well such as the PS1 and N64 memory paks.
Kind of obscure but, the design of this reminds me of "The Flask" that was created to back up amiibo data. I saw that on Wermy's channel (another retro tinkerer dude). The part that made me think of that though is he designed and 3D printed a protective shell for his "Flask" because, like this All-In-One device, the sides are exposed and risk getting dirty inside.
That's very cool. I'd hope that Gameboy Camera support could be added in via Firmware update. Other than that, and the other systems mentioned, the only other thing I'd like is an interface for the various memory card types out there. Though, there's enough of those to justify a separate device altogether!
Nice video and nice device! Whish I had one device like this one 30 years ago 🙂 BTW all my repro carts bought from China, upon insertion in sega megadrive console, they oppose mechanical resistance because the PCB edge does not have a V shape cut. Man they way they designed this makes we want to buy one on looks alone. I have a submodule, and I actually like that it backs them up to the computer. IDK why I just like to have control over where I copy and store my files. Though I wouldn't be surprised if this had the same option eventually. Beautiful product.
With the issues I have been having finding the adapters for my old retrode 2 this may be on my wishlist. Though will depend on the adapters for Master System and GameGear for me
Oh I need this! I have a bunch of sega genesis and N64 carts that I’d want to dump so that if I want to put them all on my everdrive or emulate them through software.
The Gameboy Camera should work with just a software update. The cartridge is quite unique in how it is addressed, I think it has a unique memory bank controller from memory
it seems like a good device, saves are very important if you have some sort of emotional attachment to the games, I would only want to keep a backup of my pokemon in 3rd gen, but I can do that with a ds and some useful homebrew, all other games seem like a chance to play them again when their save files go *poof*
I can understand backing up saves especially for n64 but for dumping Roms it's basically easy to go online download those not to mention downloads are extremely fast because of how small those are now
Should have color-coded the switches! 3v-5v in RED with a little dot left or right of it (°3v/5v) vs (3v5v°) eep in BLUE Clk1 in Green Clk2 in Yellow The text near cardridges would also be in those colors So you could easily read it as RED°, GREEN, YELLOW. Meaning: 5v, Clk1, clk2. I don't intend to buy this device, but i remembered the switches now lol.

As always man great content.
Totally agree! A cart adaptor for the mister would be amazing!
i would love to find original carts one day. all i got is fire red and would love to get the OGs
"TAKE MY MONEY" 💰👍
Bro flexing that ChronoTrigger
Man they way they designed this makes we want to buy one on looks alone. I have a submodule, and I actually like that it backs them up to the computer. IDK why I just like to have control over where I copy and store my files. Though I wouldn't be surprised if this had the same option eventually. Beautiful product.
I love the looks too! You can move the files from the sd card to the computer once they’ve been downloaded as an option too.
With the issues I have been having finding the adapters for my old retrode 2 this may be on my wishlist. Though will depend on the adapters for Master System and GameGear for me
Yeah, I’m hoping to take a a look at the adaptors when they are available
@@MachoNachoProductions Great to hear, am looking forward to it :)
Legitimately thought about making my own for the Retrode.
Cool I want one
Oh I need this! I have a bunch of sega genesis and N64 carts that I’d want to dump so that if I want to put them all on my everdrive or emulate them through software.
Nice
Wow this things a great machine for trying your games 😂
I wish they had something like this for DS/3DS and Switch cartridges.
All this thing needs is gamegear compatibility and it would be the muts nuts
An adapter exists and could be connected on the Genesis port.
It's nice to finally see an open source alternative to the Retrode and its adapters. If my kit ever dies I'll know where to go.
Nice Desktop Wallpaper! #1121 :P
Thanks!
Wake me up when there's one for DS, 3DS and/or Switch cartridges
Yes please!!
Congratulation.
I can understand backing up saves especially for n64 but for dumping Roms it's basically easy to go online download those not to mention downloads are extremely fast because of how small those are now
Playing the data pulled from people's own carts makes them extra special.
Its essentially like making your own cookies.
Should have color-coded the switches!
3v-5v in RED with a little dot left or right of it (°3v/5v) vs (3v5v°)
eep in BLUE
Clk1 in Green
Clk2 in Yellow
The text near cardridges would also be in those colors So you could easily read it as RED°, GREEN, YELLOW.
Meaning: 5v, Clk1, clk2.
I don't intend to buy this device, but i remembered the switches now lol.
