    Great video !! A idea I use is I carry a small spray bottle of water or flavoring in my bag I find it much harder to over water the bait this way !

      Thanks for your comments Ross. It's a good job you haven't seen the level of sophistication that some competition anglers go to in the UK. In comparison to them, this is a basic mix. Lol.

      I’ve been following the UK coarse angling scene quite a bit lately and It’s extraordinary the depth, detail, respect and tradition that they go into. Clearly it’s all about getting results and it’s streets ahead of my bog ordinary minimalist approach. Not complaining, I enjoy my fishing, but sometimes a few extra runs on the board wouldn’t go astray, so I’m boning up on some of the finer points and devouring your work here Den and it’s much appreciated!

      @@rossmcleod7983 Thanks Ross. I try to boil the complicated things down a bit to make them easier for people to understand. In the end, it's all about enjoyment, but if you get a few extra fish along the way, the enjoyment just gets better.

      And it’s the boiling down to basics that I’m most appreciative of Den. On a lot of the UK channels there is that tendency to assume that the punter knows the basics and has access to that vast array of products and ingredients. I’ve often been left floundering.....no pun intended....🙂

    So good to see some English advise, great videos! i was asking some questions in bcf about carp fishing and they had never heard of bollies, the gentleman in there showed me your youtube chanel being in the local area and its a great help. How long does the groundbait and paste last unused and where do you get your swimfeeders from? I made the mistake of leaving all my fishing gear with my Dad and brother so im starting from scratch again. Cheers.

    • @FishingwithDen
      @FishingwithDen  2 года назад +2

      Hi Karl. Treat the groundbait and paste as if it was normal food. I freeze it everytime I get home, so I can use it again next time. If it smells as though it has gone off during the heat of the day, get rid of it, don't try to freeze it.
      As for tackle, I'm afraid we all have to send back to the UK for most of it. Billy Clarkes Tackle Shop is the most used one I believe, but be prepared for the horrendous postage costs.
      Can I ask which area you live in?

    This thing works. I started with liquidized bread, ( Liquidized bread, or the grondbait i bought at the store, the result is practically the same), magets on the hook and caught the normal at that place. Throw the whip, smoke a cigarette and wait for the buoy to start moving.
    I switched to the base mixture; chicken pallets with breadcrumbs and tamarind, hook magets as before. I've never caught so much roaches in so little time, no time to smoke a cigarette. I took the roache off the hook, put it in the bucket that was three steps away, (1.20m) went back to the chair, was already another roache on the buoy.
    It was a fluke, I don't know, but if it was, it was a huge fluke.
    ps: I use the roaches as bait for the zander, so they go to the bucket. I caught so many that I had to use a net, despite being banned in Belgium, with curiosity to see how many I will caught. I usually stop at six, eight. In the same time, I got to 80. 70 went back in the water.

    Thanks Den for this informative video. Here in the UK buying groundbait can be quite expensive considering you might need a couple of kilo bags at around 3-4 pounds per kilo. For carp fishing the manufacturers normally add fish meal to the mix, so adding this in its powder form may be beneficial.

    • @FishingwithDen
      @FishingwithDen  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comments mate. I remember the cost of fishing Commercials and the cost of bait. If you don't win or place in matches, it can get very expensive indeed. I have been experimenting with Fishmeal Powder in my groundbait mix, but unfortunately Winter came along and I wasn't able to properly carry out all the required tests. I will however, be doing this in coming weeks, so I may do a video on the results.

    Could’ve sworn I commented on this the other day, finding my comments get deleted at times 🤔🤔 Just back from my local equestrian feed store and got bran and crushed oats for 50p/kg. I totally didn’t think about pellet at all which when ground up is precisely the same as what the angling shops sell for 5-10x the price! 🙀 Just had another look on their site and they do a choice of “chicken layer pellet” for again, 50p/kg 😂😂 My only mission now is to create the perfect balance between all the ingredients, praps I’ll start with a kilo of each thing with a kilo of bread, see what that produces. I’ll also add some £1.50/kg cooked hempseed to the final mix too. SO CHEAP 🤑

    • @FishingwithDen
      @FishingwithDen  3 года назад +1

      Those feed stores are a great place to buy bait cheaply. As you say, a little bit of experimentation and you could have a great groundbait.

    Can you use this for silvers ?

    • @FishingwithDen
      @FishingwithDen  2 года назад

      Hi Mick. Yes, of course. The only things I would suggest is that you might want to riddle the mix before using it to remove any small lumps which might fill up smaller fish too quickly. You might also want to change the Turmeric flavour to something silverfish like more. For example, something sweet. The basic mix can also be used on its own with no flavouring whatsoever.

    how do you make bait/groundbait with molasses?

    • @FishingwithDen
      @FishingwithDen  4 года назад

      Personally, I don't use molasses in my groundbait, but you would have to mix some into your water and then mix the groundbait. I suggest that you do a bit of experimentation with the amount of molasses because it is quite sticky and you could end up with a ball of paste which doesn't dissolve.

    • @Raduldo
      @Raduldo 4 года назад

      I'm still in Australia mate. I retired here around 6 years ago. As for the Carp fishing, I use exactly the same methods as I did in the UK. The only difference here is that the Carp are completely wild and have mostly never seen bait or a hook. The locals don't fish for them much.

    • @FishingwithDen
      @FishingwithDen  4 года назад +1

      Not sure mate. I've never tried it. What I have found though is that the amount of pressure I use to form the ball normally means I can tailor my groundbait to break up either very fast or very slowly, so I haven't found the need to use other additives with this mix.

  • @robwalker651
    @robwalker651 3 года назад

    Its obvious in Oz you dont use maggots,pinkies etc.The action of live bait would hasten the break up.What species of fish do you target?

      It's pretty much all Carp Rob. There are a few Perch, Roach and the odd Tench in some areas, but I would probably have to drive for at least 5 hours to fish for them.
