Dropped in 1990 and caused an extreme uproar with Law Enforcement, Fire Departments, & Emergency Medical Technicians nationwide due to P.E dissing them. Hiii Powered ❤🖤💚💯
NYC EMS, FD, and NYPD was forced to improve their response time. They were embarrassed. Groups like Public Enemy, Stetsasonic, and BDP, were actively pushing the line with these types of songs that became a a movement. They are part of the reason why the corporations flooded the airwaves with gangster rap.
Its crazy I had just join fire department 1990 and was bumping this in my car. But we absolutely paid attention the white guys and how slow they was moving to certain area. But that Sh*** started changing the more of us started getting rank. Our department reflects our population now and its a lots better. If you want change some of us got to be on the job & get in them in charge chairs. you cant have a 60,70% black population and your departments are 80,90% white it dont work. Its why consent decrees(lawsuit the made them hire minorities even though we was the majority in that town ).
Flavor Flav had a huge personality. He is a cultural icon for hip hop and street fashion. He always had on the dopest track suits, hats, and sneakers. He was a contrast within the group because Public Enemy had heavy subject matter, but Flav was on the scene hyping Chuck D to make the soundtrack for a revolution. I wish somebody carried the torch from them to today.
Correction: attention to the racism inherent in the system. 911 wasn’t the issue. The issue was the the system didn’t value black lives like it did white lives.
Chuck Stone III, my high school classmate, directed this video! That's him saying, "There's not a minute to spare!" on the tv screen in the video. This is one of my favorite PE joints! The "Fear Of A Black Planet" album was a masterpiece and all time classic!
"I call a cab cause a cab will come quicker...the doctors huddle up and call a flea-flicker" ....lol.....man this brings back memories of my homie Rich. RIP man! No matter what mood you were in, he wasn't going to leave alone until you either did a dance move or bust out laughing at him. And this was one of his jams!! LOL
This track was very political and relevant at the time, despite the humorous slant the video takes. 9-1-1 back in the late 80s was the refrigerated drinking fountain in the white neighborhoods but was the lukewarm porcelain room temperature drinking fountain in black neighborhoods. And PE spoke on it. Glad you reacted to it.
While you’re here you might as well check out Public Enemy Can’t do Nothin for ya man . They were great at getting you to dance to serious subject matters
The strange dancing from the guy in white was amusing ... and I actually enjoyed listening to the song! There was some laughter (MJ's Thriller laughter?) that made the song even more enjoyable! All in all, a fun song to listen to!😂🤣💯
Please check out some "Rage Against the Machine". If you like P.E.'s message, they are right on par. Metal/funk music with solid hip hop bars. Try: Down Rodeo Wake up And Bulls on parade Its a deep rabbit hole (in every way). ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻
I was at a friend's house in the 90s when some guys tried to pull a home invasion... there was a dude smashing at the windows and another guy banging on the front door with a fuckin machete... my buddy dialed 911 but the cops didn't show up until 12 FUCKING HOURS LATER! Luckily we managed to keep them out of the house, but 911 was a joke then and I'm sure it still is now, depending on the neighborhood you're calling from.

I love this song 🔥 Obviously it's not the best in matter of rhyme schemes etc. but in my opinion it's one of the best rap "joke songs". I also want to recommend you something different, but with bit of humor 😎 Kool Moe Dee - Let's Go (it's a great diss track targeting LL Cool J)

My grandmother didn’t like rap but…. She loved this!!!😂
They tried to diss our music but ended up loving at least 1 song😂😂😂
This song brought attention to the problems with 911.

Flav plays like 30 instruments super talented guy from classical piano on down
Flav said in an interview that this song was based on his friend dying while waiting for the ambulance

I remember being A kid listening to this. Perfect song for Flav
In the video era this song was a major force. He had everyone wearing them clocks.

Exactly. The system was (is) completely stacked against anyone not white (and usually wealthy).

You should react to Public Enemy's: "I can't do nuttin' for ya man".
Flav shines on that one too...

This song came out when 911 was fairly new and there were a lot of problems with it.
