I'll echo what two reviewers mentioned in that the most recent output by Europe, War of Kings especially, is exceptional. I'm also a huge fan of this album, as the energy is undeniable, though I do admit that Reid's review was spot-on. The album is a 7.5, but can be enjoyed as a 9.
Great discussion guys. Was bummed to have missed it. Loved the background from Pontus. I also got this album from a cut-out bin on vinyl and then they also re-issued the debut and got that on cassette. I prefer both to The Final Countdown (though I do really dig that record too). Europe has never made a bad record and Wings is my favorite of the bunch - the most overtly metal of anything they released. 9/10 Highlights: Scream of Anger, Stormwind, Wings of Tomorrow, Aphasia
i dont know much about Europe, i was in high school at that time and i remember "Final Countdown" and "Rock The Night" and "Carrie" all getting some play and i think a song called "Ninja" but ive never heard any of their other albums. my very first concert EVER was Def Leppard on the Hysteria tour and when i saw them Europe opened.
My favorite out of the classic albums before the break. Like most everyone in the US, I heard this after The Final Countdown and it immediately displaced it and became my #1 Europe album. I love the rawer production on it as well. Finding out that this was really recorded with the same lineup as the debut makes so much more sense in the lack of synths on it and the major jump to synths on Final Countdown and after. 9/10 for me. Question for those who would know: Before they got a full-time keyboard player was Joey pulling double duty live like a Steve Walsh/Gregg Rollie/Dennis DeYoung kinda thing?
Wings Of Tomorrow is a great album and Europe is a great band. For me it‘s a 8/10. My Europe Ranking: 01. Wings Of Tomorrow 8/10 02. War Of Kings 7/10 03. Walk The Earth 7/10 04. Europe 7/10 05. Out Of This World 7/10 06. The Final Countdown 7/10 07. Prisoners Of Paradise 6/10 08. Last Look At Eden 6/10 09. Bag Of Bones 6/10 10. Secret Society 6/10 11. Start From The Dark 6/10 All above average 🤘
My favorite album of all time. Tied with Praying Mantis' A Cry for the New World. 10/10, with ease, for me. I'll admit I am biased, but most of Reed's comments are baffling. Was a 20th generation tape dub used for his opinion?
Wings Of Tomorrow is a 10 in my opinion. Their self titled debut is also a 10 in my opinion. I love the majority of the Europe catalog, but their first two albums are still my favorites.
It took me years to discover "Wings of Tomorrow" like many on the panel. In 1986 one couldn't get away from "The Final Countdown." I always found the song "Carrie" to be sort of sweet but when it's all said and done, I really dislike the album "The Final Countdown." The album is just one big, massive sound of keyboards. "Out of This World" is much the same. I never really gave them much of a listen after those. I've heard Pete Pardo talk fondly about their recent albums as well as this panel. I will have to check them out, especially if they're anything like their first two albums. I'd give "Wings of Tomorrow" a 9

Never considered this album a "darkhorse", I've always considered it their best!
It's my favorite album of theirs. I'd give it an 8.5/10.
Riveting episode, and such eloquent panelists!

Love their 2 pre-USA popular era records as well as everything else in their catalog, and even solo stuff as well

Very cool album. My thoughts are more in line with Reed as I’ve only gotten into Wings of Tomorrow the last five years. 7 stars for me.
Europe such a great band not one bad record in their entire catalogue I'd rate this a strong 9/10
My first experience with Europe was similar to Reed's, but for me it was Hotrod the movie which made me go back to reevaluate this band. Glad I did.
Wings from beginning to end is great! One of my all time favorites!

I rate cd at 9.5, excellent
