  • The Dillinger Escape Plan {DEP} is a heavy metal rock band founded in 1996 by Ben Weinman and Chris Pennie. In 1997, the band recorded their first album with Relapse Records. Their second album, Calculating Infinity, received critical acclaim from both underground and mainstream press. The band is best known for the intensity of their performances, which have incorporated light shows, fireworks, fire breathing, and other special effects. The New York Times said about DEP, ?The lyrics are nonstop dystopia. But the words hardly matter. Dillinger Escape Plan is about extreme musical craft: fast tempos and sputtering, rubbery start-and-stop structures.? Their latest album, Ireworks, was released in November.

    this band represents exactly what music should be: the display of an artist's creation. note the creation, not regurgitation. in their case, the creation happens to be a chaos that very few others are capable of stirring up and executing so well.

    "The band is best known for the intensity of their performances, which have incorporated light shows, fireworks, fire breathing, and other special effects."
    What the fuck? The intensity of their shows is comprised of light shows, fireworks, fire breathing, and other special effects? How about the band going completely fucking nuts. The bands reckless abandon and extreme music is what makes the shows intense. The other shit is consistent with things you'd see at any other concert. ha.

    I get what you're saying, but they are definitely rooted in punk.
    think of them as having a framework made of hardcore punk, with everything else about them built around it.

    Here's my awesome Dillinger moment: In the crowd at warped tour with my girlfriend. Dillinger is the only reason we went to that shitty festival. And they play to a pretty empty crowd coz those young kids don't even know the awesomeness that is Dillinger. We're standing in the crowd and Jeff points to me and my girl and says in the mic "I'm coming to you" then about 10 minutes later, he fucking comes marching out of the pit doing a boot stomp and damn near runs me over.scared the shit out of me.

    @loldongsize John Dillinger had helped conceive a plan for the escape of Pierpont, Clark and six others he had met while previously in prison, most of whom worked in the prison laundry. Dillinger had friends smuggle rifles into their prison cells which they used to escape, killing two guards.

    Mmmm... I used to like DEP because of their challenging sound, and because of the fact that Mike Patton was the godfather of that band. Ill have to listen to the new album to give an opinion, but I guess that after this change of sound, comparing them to Mr Bungle was a big, big excess.

    the guitars kick DEP's ass becuase its not just random noise, and the singer doesnt just scream like an idiot

  • @RossFreemanLevin
    @RossFreemanLevin 16 лет назад

    good taste in dissent, anyway ;-)

  • @RogueSpectre27
    @RogueSpectre27 15 лет назад

    first of all, greg doesnt just scream. and second of all, just because ben's guitar parts are more complex than coheed's doesn't mean its just random noise. c&c doesn't express nearly as much emotion as dep. and certainly don't have as much energy. and definitely couldn't deal with the complexity of the mixed time signatures of the dillinger escape plan. they don't deserve chris, but it was his decision to leave. for money or personal reasons, what have you.

    I respect them, they have done well, Calculating Infinity was groundbreaking - I just don't think this new direction is going to do them any good. It's as if you put all your hopes on a band that comes shining through the fog of truly terrible bands, and then they just intentionally stall and do what everyone else is doing. Candiria really stank on their last album, and one band I really had high hopes for, to continue pushing the boundaries was DEP. Surely people can see the difference?

    you must be a noob so i will not tear you a new one over this,they play in constantly changing time signatures,i.e. the guitars are doing rhythym and melody parts,the bass can be playing a counter part in a different time sig. and the drums are shifting every few seconds on the heavier songs,it's jazz,go listen to Frank Zappa for a while and it'll make sense,these guys are jazz on steroids
