I see him as a rotation option with Mainoo with him getting around 25-30 games a season which is more than enough in my opinion. Mount is a continental styled CM. His style is similar to Spanish CMs from the late 2000s to early 2010's like Silva, Xavi, Corzola etc. I feel people aren't sold on him as a CM option because he's not a physical specimen but technically he's definitely up there.
I like the word ROTATION here. Sometimes we don't realize that we will play A LOT OF GAMES, might face A LOT OF INJURY and becoming an option to Bruno or Mainoo is not a disgrace. With Mount, we can rotate all our midfield. He can replace both Bruno and Mainoo. But if he’s a second third phase player, amd Mainoo is a first and second phase player. Then Mainoo and Mount can play together while ugarte or whoever that is, get some rest.

These people are just short term memory video game lot. Mount definitely has some quality fundamentals, just the wrong contract was given to him, Mount, like many Chelsea players struggled due to the injury management they had, which they've changed a lot now. Having a season away from all that and just focusing on recovery might've helped. And if he stays fit, having him in rotation with Mainoo and even Bruno will elevate everyone, keeping everyone sharp and fit deeper into the season. My only concern is the lack of physicality in the middle, the 3 are quite diminutive while being tenacious. We need 2 rotating Defensive ball winning midfielders who are proper physical presence to cover area behind them.

My thoughts on this topic is this: The more mason mount plays on the final third ,the more his presence fades and attribute remains unseen because his on-the- ball skills are under utilized in congested areas and tight spaces. He is forced to play one touch football with less composure and more runs with no demand for positional awareness and discipline. In the first leg of the game Man u vs Crystal palace league game, mount controlled the whole game using his strongest skill set... Accurate Long pass. He played a composed game preferring to see the whole game in front of him and support the team using his vision, long ball pass and screening the defence anticipating counter attack. That game showed his style of play resembled that of Toni kroos. United should utilize mount the same way and position real madrid utilized toni kroos. ❤ 👍
Very much enjoy your break downs. When United first signed Mount I didn't get it, didn't understand where he fits thought it was a desperate buy. Still not convinced it wasn't just signing a big name to attempt to make fans happy, however when I broke it down it made more sense to me if he is capable of what I hope he is. I liked Fred (feel like a minority in that) but he lacked a lot for a top team. I like Eriksen but he lacks the legs and work rate for a top team. I think Mount is a combination of those two. Mount has close to the engine and work rate to frustrate other teams, like Fred, while possessing a good amount of the ball keeping/passing and attacking abilities that Eriksen offered. Thought he could go very well and offer what United needed next to casemiro. However, Caseemiro looking like he lost a step, or two, and the emergence of mainoo changes everything. Will be interesting to see how it all works out this season but i feel excited as I think casemiro can have 2 years left and is motivated Mainoo is a stud and Mount is a massive 3rd option ahead of Mctominay.

I am not a Chelsea fan. Definitely not a big supporter of Mount either as I rarely watch his games. But as a United fan, I fail to see how we can judge his quality when he has only played a handful of games for us so far. All of which we know he hasn’t been fully fit for. I want a decent sample size of games I can use to judge his worth.
I really just don’t think he can work with Bruno. I think it has to be one or the other. Every time I’ve watched them play together, it’s looked like Bruno has been getting in Mount’s way and not allowing him to play his game. Mount’s best games have also been without Bruno on the pitch from memory. Similar to Foden and Bellingham just now for England. Although Bruno is a much better player than Mount, I controversially think that Mount fits Ten Hag’s ideal style of play much better. He is a much more understated, disciplined player. If you think back to Ten Hag’s Ajax days, he played Donny, Klaassen, Tadic, and Berghuis mostly in his creative roles. I think the fact that his most successful seasons came with Donny and Klaassen often playing CAM says enough. Players who won’t mind going unnoticed if it’s best for the team, and the complete opposite profiles to Bruno. I’d argue very similar to Mount, but he is far more technically gifted, while keeping the ability off the ball that these players had. Bruno is never gonna be dropped, but I think it’d be interesting to see how it’d work with Mount being the focal point tbh.
Bruno is our most important, our best players, and when he's at his best he wins us games, we don't have the luxury of just saying, we're better without Bruno, unless like Man City, it's KDB, Foden, Gundogan and B.Silva, not Bruno, Fred, Mount, Mctominay, Mainoo, respectfully, there's levels to this game

So, a midfield trio of mount, bruno and ugarte could work. Mainoo can still swap with mount if anyone else disagrees but mount is far more experienced than mainoo, who's still growing and improving, so really we can't ignore mount. I'd have a backup trio of mainoo, gore/flethcher and collyer.
He would only work as an 8 if you have a 6 that really gets on the ball a lot with good retention. Maybe a bit better with Ugarte but still - Who can pick the ball up from the back?

They're both attack minded players, used to playing in the pocket between mid and def. If you leave ugarte isolated on the counter like we did casemiro it will be a very similar outcome. They aren't small no but mount and Bruno aren't strong and don't win headers. They're both CAMs. Playing with two in the PL doesn't work unfortunately, we saw this last season
I never saw Mount working at Utd and I feel like he was a huge waste of money, I mean we spent 55-65m for a player who is now behind a player we got from the academy, I honestly think unless he turns things around substantially, we should be looking to move him on next year
The price was ridiculous. But, if you rewatch the game against Chelsea at home and see the way we played with Bruno, McTominay and Amrabat, Mount slots into the role McTominay played very well, and that game was a good idea of how I think ten Hag wants the team to play. A very aggressive and energetic box-to-box midfielder who can press and attack well.

Great analysis. Mainoo and Mount will make a lethal combination, and I can see Bruno eventually shifting to the right to accommodate him. Mainoo is press resistant but he's slow, Mount can really drive at defenders with the ball. He's a very well rounded player, very little he cannot do, he's going to be big this season if he can stay fit.
Bruno on the RW, whilst having £74m, and 350k a week Sancho, £85m and 220k Antony, and Amad, with 300k a week Rashford on LW, and Garnacho our best wide performer last season, baring in mind, we might even get another winger, having been linked with Olise, and Doue

I really think it’d add something interesting to our attack instead of letting Bruno do all of the creative work on his own. Ten Hag has liked doing this with Tadic and Berghuis in the past. Mount's best seasons were as a 10, so I think if it's true that he will primarily be an 8, then it was a mistake to buy him at all, let alone for the price 😕 I think he'd be best utilised in the following ways: 1) As the regular sub for Bruno. 2) In games we are dominating but need a goal, Bruno drops to the Quarterback role, Mount at 10 to score. 3) To play BOTH Bruno and Mount as 10s, in a similar way to Bruno and McTominay in the FA Cup final, or for if the wingers just aren't working. If we bought Mount to NOT play as a 10, for me it's the same mistake we made when we bought Kagawa and Mata 😕 waste of money, and waste of talent.
Mount as the 8 with Mainoo as the 6 would be cooking. Mainoo excels at first phase progression, basically becoming our Frenkie while Mount provides the box-to-box dynamism.

My biggest concern of ten hag is he doesn't gave chance in time to the likes of amad and mount last season. He is very stubborn. Mount has close to the engine and work rate to frustrate other teams, like Fred, while possessing a good amount of the ball keeping/passing and attacking abilities that Eriksen offered. Thought he could go very well and offer what United needed next to casemiro. However, Caseemiro looking like he lost a step, or two, and the emergence of mainoo changes everything. Will be interesting to see how it all works out this season but i feel excited as I think casemiro can have 2 years left and is motivated Mainoo is a stud and Mount is a massive 3rd option ahead of Mctominay.

I am not a Chelsea fan. Definitely not a big supporter of Mount either as I rarely watch his games. But as a United fan, I fail to see how we can judge his quality when he has only played a handful of games for us so far. All of which we know he hasn’t been fully fit for. I want a decent sample size of games I can use to judge his worth.

I really just don’t think he can work with Bruno. I think it has to be one or the other. Every time I’ve watched them play together, it’s looked like Bruno has been getting in Mount’s way and not allowing him to play his game. Mount’s best games have also been without Bruno on the pitch from memory. Similar to Foden and Bellingham just now for England.
Although Bruno is a much better player than Mount, I controversially think that Mount fits Ten Hag’s ideal style of play much better. He is a much more understated, disciplined player. If you think back to Ten Hag’s Ajax days, he played Donny, Klaassen, Tadic, and Berghuis mostly in his creative roles. I think the fact that his most successful seasons came with Donny and Klaassen often playing CAM says enough. Players who won’t mind going unnoticed if it’s best for the team, and the complete opposite profiles to Bruno. I’d argue very similar to Mount, but he is far more technically gifted, while keeping the ability off the ball that these players had. Bruno is never gonna be dropped, but I think it’d be interesting to see how it’d work with Mount being the focal point tbh.

Yeah I just think we need to get bigger and more athletic in the midfield. Onana would have been a great signing to hijack. His strength and mobility would have complimented Bruno and Mainoo who aren’t exactly physical specimens.

In my opinion, mount is better off playing as an 8 since he's got better ball retention and ball carrying ability compared to bruno, who's more attacking minded and creative than him. So, a midfield trio of mount, bruno and ugarte could work.
Mainoo can still swap with mount if anyone else disagrees but mount is far more experienced than mainoo, who's still growing and improving, so really we can't ignore mount. I'd have a backup trio of mainoo, gore/flethcher and collyer.
He would only work as an 8 if you have a 6 that really gets on the ball a lot with good retention. Maybe a bit better with Ugarte but still - Who can pick the ball up from the back?

They're both attack minded players, used to playing in the pocket between mid and def. If you leave ugarte isolated on the counter like we did casemiro it will be a very similar outcome. They aren't small no but mount and Bruno aren't strong and don't win headers. They're both CAMs. Playing with two in the PL doesn't work unfortunately, we saw this last season
I never saw Mount working at Utd and I feel like he was a huge waste of money, I mean we spent 55-65m for a player who is now behind a player we got from the academy, I honestly think unless he turns things around substantially, we should be looking to move him on next year
The price was ridiculous. But, if you rewatch the game against Chelsea at home and see the way we played with Bruno, McTominay and Amrabat, Mount slots into the role McTominay played very well, and that game was a good idea of how I think ten Hag wants the team to play. A very aggressive and energetic box-to-box midfielder who can press and attack well.

Such a great player but just hasn’t worked out so far. Mount will get game time for sure but maybe not as much as he initially expected upon arrival. With the rise of Mainoo to the inevitability of Bruno, Mount will struggle to get into the XI every game. Regardless, I’m excited to see how he is used this season and I hope he’s happy in this role.

Great analysis. Mainoo and Mount will make a lethal combination, and I can see Bruno eventually shifting to the right to accommodate him. Mainoo is press resistant but he's slow, Mount can really drive at defenders with the ball. He's a very well rounded player, very little he cannot do, he's going to be big this season if he can stay fit.
Bruno on the RW, whilst having £74m, and 350k a week Sancho, £85m and 220k Antony, and Amad, with 300k a week Rashford on LW, and Garnacho our best wide performer last season, baring in mind, we might even get another winger, having been linked with Olise, and Doue

I really think it’d add something interesting to our attack instead of letting Bruno do all of the creative work on his own. Ten Hag has liked doing this with Tadic and Berghuis in the past. It’s help us massively in possession and would be a huge upgrade on Rashford imo. Flexibility is everything to us rn.

It hasn’t worked because we play counter attacking football atm, which will hopefully change next season. He also played Ziyech there for Ajax, and Berghuis regularly played there in Ten Hag’s final season. In their most successful seasons, they played Ziyech, Tadic, Berghuis, and Antony on the wings, and Donny, Klaassen, and Berghuis CAM/CM.

Mount's best seasons were as a 10, so I think if it's true that he will primarily be an 8, then it was a mistake to buy him at all, let alone for the price 😕
I think he'd be best utilised in the following ways:
1) As the regular sub for Bruno.
2) In games we are dominating but need a goal, Bruno drops to the Quarterback role, Mount at 10 to score.
3) To play BOTH Bruno and Mount as 10s, in a similar way to Bruno and McTominay in the FA Cup final, or for if the wingers just aren't working.
If we bought Mount to NOT play as a 10, for me it's the same mistake we made when we bought Kagawa and Mata 😕 waste of money, and waste of talent.
Mount as the 8 with Mainoo as the 6 would be cooking. Mainoo excels at first phase progression, basically becoming our Frenkie while Mount provides the box-to-box dynamism.

My biggest concern of ten hag is he doesn't gave chance in time to the likes of amad and mount last season. He is very stubborn. Even after consistent bad games, he continued with his favourite players like anthony and co. Mount is readymade for no 8. He has everything. Pass, goalscoring threat, tencious, can tackle is well.
