  • An in-depth look at Jiu Jitsu basics by Carlos Machado (8th Degree Coral Belt).
In this video, Master Carlos Machado discusses the famous Z-Guard. What is it, how do opponents like to use it, and how can you offset/counter it. Once your opponent has you in the Z-guard several opportunities arise for them, which means you need to think fast. Master Machado demonstrates how you should keep a strong base, position yourself properly to avoid leg and arm attacks while neutralizing the guard and eventually melting it and getting the pass.

When you get to the point where you stay strong w the sheiks leg on your shoulder ,… just before that happens they tend to move that foot on the hip to stretch you. How do I prevent that w minimal energy. Thank you.
Awesome counter , I never seen before.

Subscribe where?? When "Jui Jitsu Hackers" was on Facebook I watched 2-3 hours of Master Machados content every day. Then the tragic decision to move to Vimeo (worst prescription service ever; It constantly froze up, couldn't log in, I think I got fifty videos for my subscription fee ). If there is someplace to subscribe to Master Machado's content only please let me know. Occasionally I will catch some of his material floating around on other's websites (stumbled across these few on Hayabusa). Major Bummer

Why is every BJJ video i see about the Z guard always with one leg imbetween the legs or the other leg not guarding is out. Just place the foot from the other leg on the attacker's hip and kick him off then either quickly sweep or armbar or get back to your feet for further defense of yourself or runaway. I learned this in my Krav Maga class why isn't it being taught in BJJ?
