      yea like the entry fees for the exam is hella expensive and the amount of time you spent learning those things and getting disqualified ain't worth it

      it won't, but I guess that paper for that specific region could be cancelled?
      and then the average of all the other papers would be taken for your final grade

    Hello ginger math I just had one quick question, for my paper 4 math exam for the 5 and 4 markers, I wrote my answers in PEN, but wrote the working out for them in PENCIL. Now say I get those questions wrong, will they not even take my working out into consideration because I did them in pencil? Or is it still fine?

    The ability to stop cheaters varies from region like some where it is as easy as giving a tip to the invigilators for their hard work and somewhere you cannot even look up from your desk

    One of my school mate got called in by the british council because his steps for calculation matched with someone beside him and he had to go and explain idrk if he cheated or not but yea jts quite strict. However there's another incident also another class buddy cheated In front of the invigilator and they did nothing

      ​@@jennie08._idk how do they get the strength and courage to do so. Id' rather fail than the shame of being called a cheater. Saw a girl taking advantage of her being a girl at the exam center nobody caught her but thousands faced unfairness for sure

    I am concerned about if it can actually accurately identify individual cheaters. My country actually delayed its exam by a day, and did have a lot of leaks, however I did my best to avoid all of them.
    Will I also be in the group of suspected cheating?
    I am confident that I actually got an A* in my exam, but I am afraid they might lower my grade and put me in that group suspecting I did cheat.

      If the peak of the curve is too rightward, they likely cancel the exam

      For me, the paper 2 math exam got leaked due to the delay, but my paper 4 exam was done on time so there were no leaks.
      Does cancellation only occur for an individual paper or the entire exam?

      This is just one tool of many - they would also look at the similarity of answers, the seating plan where students are sitting, many ways..

      it's easier to identify for mcq papers, because of the sitting order they can tell if answers match. for theory i think invigilator's notes matters a lot (ie. if they report there might be potential cheating going on)

    but doesnt cambridge change the threshold every year depending on students' performance? so how will they add the percentage marks into the graph?

      The grading threshold is influenced by the overall difficulty of the exam questions. Higher difficulty will bring lower grade thresholds and vice versa. It has nothing to do with students' performance.

      they do slightly for our Uni exams, depending on how successfully a question was answered. If many struggled with the later parts of a question, they'd increase the weightage of marks allocated on the earlier parts

    sir, ok so when they get this graph (the one that shows diffirenet heights) what will they do next? will they come and ask each school about the students ACTUAL preformance in real life or just guess who cheated ? i feel that guessing who cheated will be not that accurate

      It allows to identify school(s) that are unusual in their distribution and investigate further 👍

    Does this mean that only the regions who actually got leaks get exposed because with the bio paper 4 I was already in the exam center when all the leaks were going around, hopefully they catch those cheaters 🙏

      This is to identify suspicious areas of the world, not individual students (other methods are used)

      Sorry brother but they cannot lower/maintain the same threshold cause it would mean the cheaters get an A or an Astar and the people who really worked hard get a B or C it would unfair in many ways cause they won't know who got the paper and who worked really hard

      The key is looking for unusual behaviour - if the school has a track record of this, it's unlikely to flag as suspicious...

    It makes me feel happy knowing that these cheaters will be getting caught. It's so unfair to the people who studied to be punished simultaneously so I'm happy that the bell curve can at least allow us to narrow down location. I'm quite looking forward to studying Stats next year for A2 :)

      @@GingerMathematician Unfortunately my school didn't let us choose, so I've just done Mechanics 1 this year for AS and in Year 13 I'll be doing Statistics 1 alongside Pure 3 and 4. Statistics has always interested me more than mechanics so I'm excited to learn about it.

      This helps to narrow the field of schools, then can look at the papers individually for patterns...

    A couple girls in my class use the popular IGCSE reddit forum for info from people who already took the exam, and usually after the exam they would go on to type the questions....I suspect that's the case as those girls have a bad reputation, and they mentioned 'reddit, IGCSE group' in a very...secretive tone? Plus not to mention, they snuck phones into the exam centre (not the examination hall, just the centre, which I suppose isn't allowed).
    Please guys, be honest and just put your best...it's not that big of a deal if you can't get your head around something. Cheating will get you nowhere, trust me. You can put your best foot forward today and be a new person. Good luck.
