This movie was such a nice surprise when I first seen it. They so nailed the time period.
Rare perfectly done attempt at early 80's aesthetic , and just a good modern horror film.
This Is how It's done.
Always saw it as a 70's throwback...even the opening credits are bang on.
I love this movie. It's so rewatchable.
I remember seeing this and not knowing any thing about it and ending up absolutely loving it. To me, for what it is its pretty much a perfectly directed movie. Would make a great double bill with something like Starry Eyes.
Munching on some snacks, watching another cool review 👌👍
Absolutely love this flick!! Great review, I agree with most of what you said. And yes, I also think that most ppl criticizing it would love it if it was made in the 1980s LOL.
Such a cool movie! Throwback!
This is a great movie. Done perfectly to represent the era its set in. Watch this at least once a year without fail.
The son was almost certainly following Greta's character. He asked her if she was the babysitter before realizing she wasn't and killing her. I agree its a bit of a weak point. Overall I love this film, though its more of a situation than an actual story. Fantastic atmosphere throughout & the performances are all on point. I think there are a few missed opportunities that could've helped increase the tension in places. Also I think its a bit of a leap that Samantha would immediately grab a huge knife after hearing a few bumps, especially when she's already aware that the mother is upstairs. These are minor nitpicks. Fantastic review Jason. Thank You.
just watched last night on joe bob,man that scene with the friend in the graveyard caught me wayyyyy off guard
I loved the early 80's, late 70's vibe. I really dug this one....even the credits are a throwback.
This movie is awesome. I'm glad you covered it.
Thank you for another awesome video 👍👍👍👍👍
Another good discussion, Jason. This movie I always thought was pretty good but it did suffer from some pacing issues. I didn't find it boring at all but slightly tighter editing would have made this one more enjoyable for me. There was a lot to like here with the story, makeup effects and the complete 80s vibe. Thanks for the video!... Tom
Well made film. I didn't mind the pacing. Until later in the film. It takes a minute to walk up the stairs. I had to hit the 10sec ffwd button a ton. The end escalated real quick for what happens.
Love your review after seeing this in my notifications yesterday I saw the movie last night for the first rime so thanks for the movie recommendation as I was trying to find something new to watch for ages. I love the way the film was shot such as them putting in the old yellow style font for the credits in the beginning as it looked like I was watching a movie made in the 80's. I also loved the ending as it picked up it's pace and was actually quite bloody. The last scene reminds me a little bit of the ending of that David Hasselhof and Linda Blair's movie named witchery / witchcraft where she wakes up in hospital and find out she's pregnant due to the devil.
When the fuck did this post??! Hahaha
The last time I asked for a review was back a couple years ago when you did the original Pet Sematary for me... so since it’s been awhile would you review Shaun of the Dead??? Been a lonnnng time fan of your channel!!!
Loved HOTD, and am really surprised Jocelin Donahue didn’t become more of a household name after her performance. She was SO natural and believable, and had to carry a very slow movie on her shoulders, so props to her. And while I don’t agree with her politics, I have to give it up for Greta, too. As for The Innkeepers, I wanted to love it, because I loved the lead actors/characters, and the story was super promising, but it just didn’t pay off, in my opinion. Just too little, too late, for me. The Roost was totally underrated, though. Looking forward to that review.
Hey man, fan of the channel, I get what you're saying about the ending. The thing is the demon made her drink his blood and the blood on her stomach like he had entered her and she kept seeing his face like maybe she thought he also was transforming her and she was losing it plus the old guy in the graveyard said she's the chosen one maybe she thought she was evil somehow and he said it's time soon...she didn't want to find out what would happen so she tried to end it..that's what I got out of that anyway I loved it. the pacing the acting but also some convenient things happen but overall I liked it better then many other new flicks
Makes sense
Did you notice in this film the last act (roughly 20 minutes) is shot in digital video? I could be wrong, but it looks different and it didn't quite seem to fit. Yes, the overall atmosphere nailed the 80's aesthetic, but the payoff wasn't worth the slow burn and that abrupt ending...fell flat for me. I did not care for this film much, despite being an old school horror/slasher.
I freaking love this freaking movie so very much it is one of the most awesome and epic movies I have ever seen in my life it’s in my top 10 or top 20 favorite movies of all time and I own it on Blu-Ray also love the freaking House itself it’s so very nice and it’s the perfect House for the film
The son let the air out her tire while they were in the house. Megan pulled over cuz one of her tires became flat, she was upset and cussing. So obviously the son was watching her and waiting. I say this cuz I just finished the film.
I loved this movie! I don't get the complaints about the pacing, it felt right on point for me (considering the approach they were aiming at). I kinda liked the ending too, but it definitely could've been much better.
Ti West was easily my favourite new horror director with House of the Devil and The Innkeepers. It’s such a shame that these movies didn’t get the appreciation they deserved and he kind of disappeared. The Sacrament was ok too. How is ”The Roost”, haven’t seen that one?
I don’t remember it
They managed to make it look very similar to films like The Changeling (George C Scott). They nailed the era bang on. I still don't really get the pizza foreshadowing thing and I'd have preferred for the ending sequence to have lasted a bit longer, but a great movie otherwise.
The Changeling, what a great movie. & yeah gotta agree with you, they have made it look quite similar.
So true about the authentic feel and aesthetic here. Immerses you...despite Noonan’s age 😄.
I loved this movie!
Adore!
🍕🎥 🎞 I’m vibed in.
I thought it was fine. Didn’t care for the ending/3rd act but the main girl was great and overall it wasn’t that slow to me. Best character is the main girls friend and that scene with her at the cemetery shocked the hell out of me
Agreed, Mr. Hat, the 3rd act ruined it for me. Did you notice the switch to digital video in the 3rd act? Correct me if I'm wrong/inaccurate, but something in film technique changed. It felt almost like a different movie in the climax and the abrupt end after that made it meh instead of good.
love this movie!
I like Ti West movies a lot, most of his movies are a slow burn though.
This movie bored the fuck outta me. Gimmick doesn't save it at all.
Your username matches your thoughts perfectly. Well done 👍
it was a great movie
