Great advice (as always) from FZ. He was right about the music publishing rights, and many amazing 70s bands signed their profits away while their managers were buying fancy cars, fancy women, and personal jets. Fuck Warner Bros! Zappa..and Vai..(and Vambo) ROOL!!!
It was actually Patrick Mehan and Wilf Pine. Ozzy had problems with Don Arden later on when he went solo but had nothing to do with them losing publishing on their first 6 albums. The song called "The writ" off the Sabotage album, was written all about Mehan........
Yeah Don Arden didn't have anything to do with their publishing rights that Black Sabbath went through that was with I believe Patrick Meehan and some other guy , but douchebag Don Arden ,Sharon's Dad, they didn't deal with him till the latter years of Black Sabbath like 79-80 and then Ozzy eventual solo career. Just to put it out there he was a f****** b**** just an absolute prick and his daughter didn't fall too far from the tree he's a real bitch herself. I don't know what ozzy was thinking marrying that psychopath but he would definitely be secure financially that's for sure with his money and hers good Lord those kids grandkids great grandkids great-great grandkids will all be set. spoiled absolutely rotten but Jack and his sister seem to be pretty level-headed human beings I mean I see Ozzy so much in Jack he's definitely a level-headed version of his father now I'm sure if he got really hardcore into drugs he would be a lot like his dad burnout in his later years. An Ozzy brain is crispy brain!!!!!!
I learned that 30 years ago. You can own the copyright but not get paid for the publishing rights. I do things to watermark my material. I also made up my own logo and merchandise. That is some of the best advice.
Zappa did have a sub label through Warner Bros called discreet records but it was co-owned by herb Cohen. But that was far from what Frank wanted he was still sucking on the Warner Brother teat until 79 that's when he finally could break away and start barking pumpkin records and I believe the first album that was put out on BPR was Tinseltown Rebellion
One of the reasons Rick Beato does not have much Zappa on his chaannel is becase he says it gets blocked etc Thought this would be a great place to make this comment maybe this can be rectified.
@@JoryKorvid. Bullsh*t! Rick said nothing of the sort! He’s featured Zappa on many videos, praising his work and his playing. Unlike yourself, I’ve watched Rick’s videos from the start and I know you’re talking sh*t.
Steve's Frank stories are great; they always illustrate what a unique, brilliant and honest person he was, and we're lucky he left such an extensive body of work; there ought to be a museum dedicated to preserving it and providing ongoing access to it for future generations.

Yeah, Frank learned the hard way about contracts and how signing them bound you in to things you had no idea about. Beefheart suffered greatly from signing anything that was put in front of him by shady managers and labels, and Frank saw all of that first hand.
Frank was a capitalist, don't be fooled, and he was also staunchly for the competent military defense of this country. He just didn't think the conventional powers were doing a good job of it.
you graduated from the best music college in the world and they didnt explain music rights to you?????????? i own rights to music .... that i made and expired applications! it can cost as little as 75 plus bucks

I can watch steve talk about Frank countless times.
Frank was a smart guy! The music business is complicated. The more you understand the intricacies; the more you will enjoy your craft.
I was fortunate enough to see Frank Zappa live
Met Steve backstage in Louisville at Zappa. We played "stump the guitar player". Had a blast. I'll NEVER forget that night OR meeting you guys!! 😘🥰
Shit ugly zappa looked like a bum at the end 🤣
He changed the World of boring assholes 🤣
With shit zappa trolls, its like with mushrooms, keep them in the dark and feed them shit 🤣
To save millions requires millions -
Do Vai's math.
Cos Zappa was no fool he knew the way of the Jew
Steve miss you in Tahoe still riding that orange Harley
Beato rocks
Frank was a genius on every level
freak us out frank.
Dave Clark - Dave Clark 5 chose wisely.
Vai's hay day was with Zappa. Nothing note worthy since!
And don't let Lennon rip you off.
F. Z. was the be(a)st.
My cousin and I just had a realization that Steve Vai resembles Wilson from House MD with his cancer progressed some. We're awful LOL
Zappa knew this bc, among other things I’m sure, John Lennon stole one of his songs and credited it to himself.
Oh no I don't believe it . . .
