Seems like they might have fixed the issue with the right hinge braking by adding the ergolift thing, since there isn't as much weight put on the hinge. A lot of potential, can't wait for the full review
I love my current Flex5 Chromebook with the 10Gen i3, 8GB Ram, 128 Drive. I want to give it to my stepmother when her Acer stops receiving updates in June. This will be a very welcomed replacement. 🙂
I have Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook with an i5 processor / 8GB RAM. It is a great Chromebook and especially good at running more demanding Linux programs. I also upgraded its M.2 2230 128GB NVMe SSD to a 256GB SSD to give me more storage space. My only disappointment with this latest Flex 5i Chromebook is they don't offer an i7 model with 16GB RAM. The i7 processor has a higher performance iGPU plus the increased RAM would have made it an even better Chromebook for running the new Steam container and gaming or running IDEs and software development.
It's 2023 now and still no sign of this chromebook. Lenovo must have a bunch of stock of the 2021 Flex 5i model that they've decided to clear out first or something...
I got a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 for $100 during the 2021 holiday sales and honestly I use it way more than I thought I would. It's definitely my beater Chromebook. The build quality of Lenovo is lowkey underrated. 300+ nits is the sweet spot for any Chromebook. I will not get one with anything less. This new one is checking a lot of boxes. Still waiting to see what Acer has in store for us with their 2022 713. I hope to God they sort out the speakers on it.
Great video as always. Almost thought I was looking at the HP 14c from the track pad to the finger print scanner. O' and the side speakers grills. Looks great.
Lenovo knows how to make a solid offering with the Flex 5 line. It strikes the balance very well, with enough premium hardware and features, and enough compromises in the right places to be affordable. The plastic Lenovo uses in their base is also not the standard old laptop plastic that everything used to be made of several years ago. It is ruggedized and has almost a mat texture. It helps a lot of their offerings to obtain the MIL-STD drop resistance rating.

The fingerprint reader or the CPU model or the screen ratio are perhaps the fastest. If it is i3-1215U, i5-1235U, Intel Pentium 8505, or it has a fingerprint reader or a 16:10 / 1920x1200 display, you have the 2022 version
The only store I've found it in is Lenovo's website, and they only have 4g of RAM!! If anyone knows where to buy one with 8gs, please let me know. Thanks!
Long time chromebook user. Long time fan of your channel. Love your videos. One idea of improvement for your reviews. Maybe you can include a few new test scenarios like testing how well a chromebook works with an external 4k monitor. Don't need to show it, just share your test results. I have a HP x360 14c i5 11th gen and when hooked up to an external LG 4K monitor (in my case via USB-C) some apps/website cause Chrome OS to freeze/crash. E.g. it happens when using Google Maps or TinkerCAD in a maximized window (just zoom in/out and pan around a bit and it crashes). As soon as I scale down the window size to cover e.g. only half the 4k monitor's real estate it never crashes. Maybe I was just unlucky with my unit. The Chrome OS File app also freezes from time to time (only a reboot will fix that). Sad to see rock solid Chrome OS being not so stable anymore. Powerwashing did not solve any of those issues (using latest Chrome OS 98). Keep up your great work. Cheers :)

Hi, do you know the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 CB 13ITL6 (82M70037MH) model with an OLED screen? I can't find anything about this one, not even an review. It's in sale here for €399. Also strange that on the user guide i found online it says Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i Chromebook (13″, 6).
Hell, I'm just about to checkout the 1115G4 model from last year because I see no other competitor with similar specs in its price bracket. Now I'm in doubt whether to wait till June or just do it, as if I do, I have quite a significant payday discount coupon.

Thanks so much for this clear, enthusiastic and conversational video. I'm now clear that this product works for me in design and usability terms. Now almost everything I do away from home setup is in the browser, there's only one thing that comes to mind as "could a Chromebook do this?" question and I've not been able to get a confident answer. I move a lot of photo & video files between FAT32 or exFAT formatted hard drives and SD cards / USB sticks when out with clients. With Windows I stick a 4-way hub into a USB slot.. open file manager, see and open the files and drag/drop to move them graphically. Can that be done out of the box with Chromebook, or is it a hacky Linux type of hit & miss thing? I don't want to be putting client media content or drives at risk.
Now that the AMD 6000 chips are out for laptops there is absolutely no reason to buy any Intel laptops the graphics performance is pathetic on the 120x00 series Intel chips! Brave new world!
Metal is overrated. My 2015 Lenovo Yoga 6-series was all metal. I was eating spaghetti one night next to the brand new (at the time) laptop and my fork dropped unto the edge of the palmrest (about 3 inch drop) and put a dent on the palmrest ! I'm 95% sure if it was plastic, nothing would've happened as plastic absorbs shock better. My ancient Lenovo T440's lid and palmrest for instnce is plastic - I've agressively bumped that lid unto so many things over the last ~7 years but it's totally unscathed.
Damn this is a good upgrade to my 2021 but I got that so cheap (£250) with an 11th gen i3. My main wants from an upgrade were a 16:10 and a fingerprint reader. Hmmm I’ll wait six months to see if I can get a refurb.
Chrome OS itself is already build under Linux platform in the first place. As for Steam Deck, I'm not sure if Valve would drop their own SteamOS for that.

Running ChromeOs Flex off a boot drive for dual boot has limitations, especially in that you can't run Android apps for that version. I don't think that's a good use case at all. If you want Windows that badly you're better off getting a dedicated Windows device.

The best laptops today are fanless unless you really need the power and can't get it without a fan. My Asus C234 (C214) is fanless but only has a Celeron processor. Too bad Apple doesn't ruggedize their MacBook Air and make the keyboard spill-resistant. If Apple could be trusted to do what was best for customers, like it seemed to when Steve Jobs was alive, it might be trustworthy, but they make so much money off repairs that they can't resist making their screens easily damageable and putting sensors for humidity and moisture on their motherboards without preventing humidity and moisture on their motherboards. This Flex 5i has a great big grill by which dust, dirt, and moisture can enter, which makes for a potentially disgusting muck to clean out if you don't want it clogging up internals, including the fan. I don't care how nice it looks. If I can't relax around my laptop, have to keep everything including myself clean around it, it's no fun and no good for me.
I got the 2021 version of the Flex 5i during the holidays, now I kind of wish I waited- but I did get it on doorbuster prices oh well.

Iirc, AMD chipsets aren't mainly optimized for Chrome OS.

I believe the Idea Pad is a windows based laptop. Both are probably very good though.
