Snagged one of these by accident. Just needed a bass while I was in JP. Didn't realize how rare they'd become.
How rare are they? I have a 2005 model identical to the one in this video. Not my main axe but I still love it. Trying to learn more about it, bc I bought it in new condition from a prominent jazz bassist in NYC. It was one of the prizes in a bass competition. Trying to figure out if there’s anything special about it.
@@filmjazz It would depend on the model. I know I got mine for about $900 in 2014 at a Shimamura music in Hiroshima and then seen people selling good condition 5 strings for about 1400 to 1500usd in 2018.
Thisbaconisalive it’s the Japan non-export model in black, just like in this video. I got it in 2005. What’s weird is it does not have a “crafted in Japan” or “Made in Japan” decal above the serial number.
Thisbaconisalive after a little more research it’s looking like mine is a rare prototype. I knew there was something different about it!
New version has a better Strat-style input jack, has the pickguard removed, and no inlay dots for a sleeker look. Sounds the same, but is a secret weapon in the bass World. Great demo, and that first overdriven tone you opened with was killer!
Not true. Well, to be clear there are multiple versions. The IMPORT version sold in the USA is what you're describing and that's all that is sold in the US and only comes in black. This is a NON-IMPORT version that is sold directly out of Japan and not in the US. I have a 2016 version like this but in Gun Metal Blue that is freakin' gorgeous. I also have a 2012 version that looks identical to this except it's a JJ pup version. Both are from Japan.
Gosh, what a sound! . Dressed for all occasions so to say.
man that is perfection! i want one...
Great demo
Does anyone know what the factory supplied strings were and gauge?
Sounds amazgud
man that slight distortion sounds good! what did you use?
tube amp mate
Just the Ampeg V4 head. I also have one.
Can this bass pull off a 100% true P-Bass sound? Or the slimmer, basswood body alters the sound a bit? Thanks
In my experience listening to a bunch of different basses and playing several different ones myself, the only bass capable of giving you that exact classic P bass tone is a P bass with only one split-coil pickup. Even just adding a jazz bass pickup near the bridge adds slightly more treble, even with the P bass pickup soloed. Some might tell you that the J pickup's magnets and the cavity it sits in causes this unavoidable difference. However, you can get pretty close with some P/J basses or with either a Jazz bass or Rickenbacker if you solo the neck pickup. But from what I've observed listening to other demos, the Aerodyne J bass doesn't seem to reproduce the authentic P bass tone very well.
Does anyone know how I can get pickguard for this bass?! Or what would fit? Dig it better with a pickgaurd
I'd appreciate the help!
Jimmy Alvarez To answer your question, there is a difference between the newer Fender Aerodyne, and Fender Japan Aerodyne. It's one word, but the Japan model had this pick guard. If you're wanting to put a pick guard on the newer version tho, they're all over guitar center, or Amazon, and other online stores. You'll need a drill and some screws, but you can do it.
Thanks for the demo! Are the tuners and bridge branded Gotoh?
they are not branded but they are gotohs
Chau the USA model I received does have Gotoh tuners. They say Gotoh on the tuners. The version I have is the smoke chrome version with Strat-style input-jack.
Nice axe. Did you install fret dots? If so, how much and was it hard to do?
SixSentSoldiers those are stock
Mateusz Piotrowski my bad. It's the new Aerodyne that don't have dots.
I tried one.. love the playability and looks but hate the sound of pick-ups. I wonder if I could put active EMGs in it, if the back dig-out would fit a 9v battery.
I don't think there is a better bass on the market new under $1000 than the Aerodyne. I'll put a $799 Aerodyne up against any $12-$1500 bass out there.
Is that a 34" scale neck?
+J Harper yes sir
Hello, what is riff 1:40?
