    It’s so weird hearing words like “tight budget” with Disney, considering at the turn of the decade they are now a multi trillion dollar powerhouse all over the world with seemingly endless budgets.

      Not really weird when you have studio honchos like Bob Iger in charge of the theme parks: These are people who are used to tight budgets, and only greenlighting the ones who meet that criterion.

      UltraCheesy Studios he might not be a mega Disney fan though he could maybe just do some decent research but who knows. I'm not a big Disney fan by a long shot but I no a lot of stuff anyway I'm talking about WDW, not so much Disneyland but I know the basics for Disneyland)since I'm a local and went 6 times a year at least with probably an average of 25 days spent in property every year from when I was 3 up until my mid teens. just never was the biggest Disney fan as a kid, I like Universal better so as I hit 16 years old and my brothers and sisters hit 14 and 11 we starting to get tired of Disney as well so we started switching off every other year to an annual pass at Universal. now in my early 30 s i always buy annual passes for me and my son to go to Universal every year. bought annual passes for 2 years when he was a bit younger and he just really didn't care for it that much. To be honest he really doesn't care for Universal either but he likes it better. I know weird kid LOL.

      Since I use to do this ride every time we went to DCA...I have to say the individuals who would place a small child in the middle then slip them out of the restraint to be put on the surface (while the ride was in full operation) just to get a beach ball was a major issue for new cast members. When they took the beach balls out (because somebody decided to hurl it like a NBL pitcher against people they did not know) was the start of the decline for that ride. Personally the Luigi's dancing cars ride needs to go. I got hurt on that ride by the aggressive jerking. Original Flying Saucers was the best...but technological advances don't always make a good ride. My opinion...the Rocket Rods were the product of being CHEAP and using track that was made for touring not a thrill ride. Even my 4 year old son who rode the ride HATED IT.

      They were a great ride! Probably my favorite of all time. The vid doesn't even show one of the ingenious bits of engineering which involved a giant sweeper arm that would gently wrangle all the saucers that were currently in the open field and enclose them in a pen while simultaneously releasing the waiting saucers and passengers into the open field. I was 12 when the ride was removed and have bored my family through the years with tales about the Flying Saucers!

When I graduated high school, I got to pick where we went on vacation and obviously, it was back to Disney World for us! We saw 3.0 and while I didn't like it as much as 1.0, it wasn't bad. I think you nailed number one... Superstar Limo is the worst thing Disney ever did. I rode it, was very unsettling. Luigi's Tires would have been number 2 for me. I also rode that and thought it was too slow.
    I wouldn't have put Rocket Rods or Flying Saucers on this list. I understand they were closed due to technical problems, but people loved them. I thought Rocket Rods was wicked the only time I got to go on them when they worked...
    Instead I think Maliboomer and Alien Encounter earned spots.

    • @A_A610
      @A_A610 6 лет назад +6

      @@pawtonsansders985 it's was a drop tower ride at Disney's California adventure. I live in California and my parents took me to the park a lot back then. We still go to this day but I really wish they would finally build the fancy quin jet ride at avengers campus here at California adventure. I never got on the maliboomer because I was too scared and only about 9 or 10 at the time. Anyways for some reason they randomly closed it (I think right before they remodeled the entrance and built Buena Vista Street. The area where the maliboomer was sat abandoned for a few years since even though they took out the ride they didn't take out the elevated concrete platform the ride sat on. It was used as a smoking area for a short while. Then there was plans to put the green army men parachute drop ride (from disneyland paris) in the abandoned maliboomer area. Mainly due to it fitting in with the Pixar pier re theme. Sadly all they did was move fliks flyers from the bugs land area to the maliboomer spot. Probably to save money, since they were tearing down bugs land to build avengers campus. All they did was re theme the ride to inside out emotional whirlwind, and that's what currently sits in the former maliboomer spot to this day.

    The original Journey Into Imagination was perfect! It was dazzling, whimisical, the animatronic hosts were excellent, and it was a visual delight no matter where you looked. The latest incarnation...NONE OF THE ABOVE! It's cold, sterile, Figment is treated like a pest instead of a partner, and Eric Idle is the straight man (for a comedian of his talent and reputation, a tremendous waste and an insult)!!! They need to bring back the original, along with enhanced animatronics and visual effects.

      Really what they should have done, since it was one of the top rated attractions, was use the money from Kodak to do maintenance, and maybe update a few of the animatronics. Right now the rumor is that it's eventually going to be replaced by an Inside Out themed ride.

    • @MattBurosh

      Lauren Emmett I just got back from WDW after having last been in like 1996. I too loved the original ride, and lovingly referred to it as, "Figment" (ie. "Let's go on Figment next!").
      The newest version of the ride is pretty bland, two-dimensional (in ways quite literal and figurative) and seems to talk about nonsense the entire time. It was a pretty lame follow-up to what was always an appealing kid-ride in my opinion :(

    When I was a kid, I got stuck in the Submarine Adventure ride for over 4 hours in 1983, I think. I had to watch the eels go in an out of the rocks for what seemed an eternity. There was no 'in ride exit' so we just had to sit it out. I remember it was the last day we where there, and it total sucked. No e-Tickets back then, in fact we had to leave immediately after being let off the ride because the park was closed! Getting stuck in a small, crowded space for so long left an impression on me, and to this day I avoid small places I can get stuck in, like elevators and walk in freezers. When I was a kid, I really wanted to me an imagineer at Disneyland, but after being stuck, I never wanted to go back to Disneyland, ever. I though about working at Disneyland, and I think I would have been an ideal job for me, I love building robots and working with technology. Today I work in IT as a systems engineer and network security. I don;t worry about being stuck on a ride so much anymore, I am more concerned about cyber threats. What could happen if a stuxnet like virus effected the systems at Disneyland and what Disney is doing to mitigate those risks. PLC -HELL!

    With the advancements made in technology from the 1960's, I can see how Rocket Rods could possibly be brought back with a few changes (especially since Disney now has enough money to do almost whatever they want). With a few new scenarios and a change to the track to allow for safe passage, Rocket Rods could possibly be successful.

    What made Imagination 1.0 so great was all the extras you could do. They had these rainbow tunnels with floor panels that would play music. There were also all kinds of extras like computers you could fiddle with and programs where you could paint pictures and create your own music.. They gutted it all and now is only a fraction of the size it once was.

    This explains my childhood confusion about the Figment ride! I rode the crappy version, and was really confused where Figment went, so didn't ride it again for years. To this day, the Rocket Rods ride structure and tracks are still there, but in a decaying and rotting state unfortunately. Why don’t they just de-construct it and get it out of the way you might ask? Well another downside is that the Rocket Rods ride track, travels throughout many other buildings and structures that host other rides and restaurants. To get rid of it means that they would have to close down all of Tomorrowland and take apart many buildings to get the track and structure off of the map.

      They would have to essentially rebuild most of the track and structure. I believe the People Mover, even at Magic Kingdom, is still not popular ENOUGH for them to budget in for it. I personally LOVED the People Mover ride at WDW and rode it all the time because there was almost never a line and it was relaxing, hahahaha. But alas, I live closer to Disneyland which doesn't have it... oh wells.

    • @annettehopkins6895
      @annettehopkins6895 5 лет назад +1

      I loved the old people mover (the one at WDW). I worked at Epcot and then Disney's Animal Kingdom during the 90's, so I got to go to the park all the time. Like someone else mentioned; the people move had little to no line and was relaxing. It worked great for when we had a group where some would want to ride Space Mountain and some didn't or couldn't. We would ride it around until the rest of the group got off Space Mountain.

    • @kevinbhieey9188
      @kevinbhieey9188 5 лет назад +1

      @@narutosbelievin Part of the problem is they keep having new ideas on what to do with the tracks. For many years Imagineers had hopes of turning part of the tracks into a coaster. Well, the beginning of a coaster. The trains would launch from here into a building which would hold the bulk of the attraction. This was all going to come around when they finally got to "fixing" Tomorrowland, which would've included getting rid of the Autopia and the subs. But one thing Disney doesn't like doing is spending money. So this huge project always gets bumped by some smaller, cheaper project. With Galaxy's Edge underperforming, there's a larger chance this might actually happen one day. Like, maybe in 2030 or so.

      Timsalt3100 I vividly remember it and the disappointment when they changed it, and semi delight when they changed it back.

    With something like The Flying Saucers and Luigi’s flying tiers. You’d think they would use magnets so they levitate better

    I rode the Rocket Rods in 1998. It was incredibly disappointing. We headed over there as soon as the park opened and spent our first hour and a half slowly moving through the line. The ride was dubbed the fastest ride in the world, but it had to slow down around each corner, like was stated, and just as you got excited it was over.

    Disney: makes journey into imagination.
    Public: I love it!
    Disney: cool it's getting a refubeb.
    Public: okay so it'll be better
    Disney: okay here's a different ride to show your VEEERRRY creative
    Public: what?-
    Micheal Eisner: what!?-

    OMG I thought for sure I had #1 figured out and I was WRONG! I thought for sure you'd mention "Alien Encounter" in WDW, that was retooled into "Stitch's Great Escape". That ride TRAUMATIZED me as a high school student!
    Also, as an aside, you forgot to point out the similarities between Superstar Limo and Rock n Roller Coaster, which opened in mid-'99. :)

      Christy Stevens Stitch's Great Escape was so stupid and I'm both sad and disappointed that I ever went on it. Even my parents agree.

    Two rides I miss most, - World of Motion in Epcot, (however Test Track which took its place is pretty awesome in its own right), and Mr Toads wild ride. The finaly in the train tunnel was awesome.

      It's a shame they removed Mr Toads for Winnie The Pooh! Luckily we still have Mr Toad at Disneyland.
