Reminiscing my family's history in Singapore just before and after the war... Am a Eurasian of English and Thai blood. Both my parents went through the 2nd World War... The music the wardrobe. It all brings me lovely memories of my childhood in Singapore
@@arexses3523No more were made. This is only the first 2 novels. There were 2 more books running until 1947 and in the mid 2010s Elizabeth Jane Howard wrote a 5th before she died, taking the family, based on her own, into the 1950s. The BBC cancelled the series after just 6 episodes. In hindsight, a terrible blunder.
Amazing how my memory remembers this wonderful adaptation of the novels. Past England lovely times although through war. I shed a tear when Sibel died, the acting was excellent. I think I will read the books again. Many thanks.
oh that was really wonderful...living abroad was not able to see it... trouble is that as the others have said ....so many stories still to have been completed. or maybe we have been too spoilt for never ending series. wonderful cast.
How disappointing that the series ended in such a bizarre way and was not finished great pity that a series is started and left with no proper ending. Great cast shouldn't start something unless one is committed to go all the way.
I have just finished watching these six episodes. I believe that Eliz Jane Howard, the author of 5 books about the Cazalet family, continued their story into the 1950's. I suspect that the story was left unfinished to us viewers because the TV executives expected a budget to continue the series, which wasn't forthcoming. Such a pity as it was so well acted.
The BBC cancelled the series after 6 episodes. This was an independent production by the renowned Cinema Verity company of Verity Lambert. Everyone involved was 100% committed to it, but only the first 2 of the 4 1990s novels were filmed. These novels ran unto 1947. Years later, Elizabeth Jane Howard, shortly before she died, completed the Cazalet Chronicles with a 5th novel. I think in today’s world another more committed channel would have filmed the entire story but the BBC knew better. It always says, since it is publicly funded by compulsory licence fee that it does not take commercial performance into account, but clearly it does.
I agree, but still found the ending of ep6 quite satisfying!! So happy to hv enjoyed these 6 episodes… wonderful period & storyline & superb acting!! Thinking I must read her novels now! Throughly enjoyed… cheers, from Texas
I visited the UK. I’ve never understood the high door latches and locks. I guess it might be easier to see. However if someone on the other side opens the same door, you might end up with a black eye.
That was a lovely final chapter to the story, brushing lightly over sadnesses - and focusing-on what matters most; Life goes-on, and the curtain is drawn momentarily aside giving Us a glance toward the future. Bravo, All! (I don’t know if this screenplay originated with a book, but if there is a book - I’d love to read it!) Thank-You for uploading this excellent mini-series, I enjoyed it immensely.
This series is based on four or five books. Try googling the series and you will find the name of the author ??Susan Howard?? People who've followed both seem have really enjoyed the quarter of books.
AG NO....HOW DISSAPOINTING THAT IT ENDED SO SUDDENLY - I WAS ENJOYING IT SO MUCH AND GETING READY FOR SOME BINGE WATCHING....I WILL DEFINATELY READ THE BOOKS...
Quality of these starts out well enough but sloppy editing and inattention to intrusive commercials and sound synchronization make it unwatchable after episode 4. Skip it.
The🥺 ending was to rushed 😢. Crammed to much into the final minutes 😮. DIDN'T even see Rupert come home 😢. I loved it But felt the war was second too all the devious goings on 🙏💯
Actually I'm glad it's over. A good story but ser 5 & 6 are innidated with short ads (although I'm premium) an the SYNC gets worse and worse. Poor confused endind 1 out of 10.

One of my favorite shows.
Yes one of my favorite shows .
Oh My Gosh!! I'm sooo disappointed! This can't be the end??? So many loose ends.
I echo your sentiment indeed. This could have done with 6 more episodes. Its ever so wonderfully written and the acting is superb.
But that ending is something for sure.
its missing the final episode

Me too! I wanted to know if Stephen's lover had the baby and so much more.
Yes what a shame no additional seasons.

Does this series stop here at part six ?? A strange ending !

Have the last two episodes been out of sync for anyone else?!! I hate this!!! This episode started out fine and then got wonky!
Christopher was a huge wimp and a disgrace!😡
❤
I wonder how many times they said "darling". So irritating
Joanna Lumley, Producer. How many times did Patsy and Edina mutter "Darling!"
