The question after that is, can the Cubi 2 run OS X? If it can and a broken iMac G4 can be sourced then it would definitely make for a nice little project.
Easy to do. Just need someone who can solder the wires on the internal monitor wires to a DVI connector (would not be me, my eyes are as bad as yours), then supply 12v and 5v to it using a couple of voltage converters. I fitted an Intel NUC inside the base of my G4 after gutting out the original parts. And it is an amazing kitchen hackintosh :D Even have the original speakers working! Have to show you dude. it's so cool :)
Nice review Tom, but I'm confused by the Warranty Void sticker, only for MSI to invite you to void your warranty by upgrading RAM & Storage... seems a bit weird and IMO non-enforcable being as every PC forever has been user upgradeable without penalty.
Thanks for checking out my review :) MSI are offering a barebones version of this system I believe, so I'm assuming that the sticker won't be present. This is a review sample so maybe they stuck the sticker on to see if reviewers had opened it up? I'm not too sure on this one, I'd check with MSI to confirm.
Nice video Tom! I like this PC because it makes so easy to make AiO PC (lookalike maybe?) but I wonder why it does not have any kind of i5 or even i7 CPU inside.
Thanks man! :D There are more CPU options, I believe this is the lowest end config. There seems to be a sweet stop config available with an i5 7200u and 8GB RAM.
great video (as always)! great use case too with the streaming i would do the same but I was GIVEN a GTX 960 4GB and I am going to build a LAN Party/HTPC with it and an i7 2600
Would this be able to do some basic Photoshop editing, and ocassional light video edit? (i mean cutting parts of videos, adding music, recording screen on windows, etc).
Hy there. Great video. I am looking for a good mini pc for my home theater setup. Maybe you can help recomend a device. I need a device that can push 4K HDR movies with dolby atmos sound. It would be also good that it has dual video outputs capable of doing 4K hdr. would you recomend this ? Tnx
yo dog dont think it will do 4k screens that would require some serious graphic card power and surely you meant 1440 or perfect on 1080p looks good though like the upgrade ability
It outputs 4k res no problem... from their site: "MSI® Cubi 2 supports HD and 4K (3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz) ultra-high-definition content, to serve as an HTPC that helps to change your living room in a home theater where you can enjoy the best display quality." Gaming at 4k requires series graphics power, simply outputting to a 4k display for playing back content or whatever is far less demanding.
I think it's more a case of it not being his to do it with. MSI let him borrow it as a review unit so he had to give it back. I'm sure he'd try and Hackintosh it up if he actually owned it.
It is funny you said it is not going to affect my electricity bill. Lets get to facts My latest upgrade of both of my computers was: Move from AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ to AMD Phenom II X6 1090T and 1100T This move was not done for sake of more computing power, but rather for sake of much lower power consumption. Basically I went down from 100% on both cores to bare few percent (8% on average on lowest speed of those processors), went down from 65C in my room to bare 30C - real story, real room Now I am using BTRFS based RAID6 on 4 Enterprise grade 4TB SATA 7200RPM Hard Disk Drives. I am using 2 SSDs in RAID1 based on BTRFS, have 32GB of RAM and run two monitors instead of one, use youtube all the time (I can watch something, while working) I changed my systems to make it more power efficient, but.. I know that running anything what takes 1W hurts my pocket by £1.05 a year. At max power this takes £27.33, which is noticeable. It is not big deal, but it is there.
I want a 6 core i7 3.7 ghz mac mini with a gtx 1050ti and 32 gb ram . And a quad CPU Xeon tower mac pro with 4x22 cores and two Titan Xp ram disk , pci e ssd
So you want a server with two budget workstation GPU's that have fairly below average floating point precision that makes them questionable for workstation usage? The PCI-E SSD is already a thing and has been for a good while on Macs by the way. The current Mac Pro uses one and gets like 2GB/s read and writes (yes, BYTES).
Been using Mac OS exclusively for about 6 years over here bud. And if you think that opting out of the phone home options truly stops them from sending data back to base, well, you are truly the delusional one.
This was a great video, Tom! Looked very professional. I´d love to see more content like this in the future.
Great video tom, your videos never fail to entertain. Looks like it took ages with all the shots and beautiful audio!
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed!
It did take quite a while but it was worth it because it was great fun :)
Tom another awesome video, what a change from your usual stuff... :-) More reviews!!
Thank you! :)
Great work Tom!
Spotted shenmue case in the back. Instant subscriber!
Nice bit of kit,
liking your console collection as well .
Woah! A 10 minute IMNC video! So short!
SJN Tech haha :-)
As product reviews go, you did a real great job! extremely professional. and Ha I was the 286th like! I need an upgrade
This is the best most detailed knowledgeable review I've ever seen
Wow, thank you Toby!
That was an awsome vid Tom really enjoyed it.
Thanks a lot :D
not a problem I look foward to what you have coming in the future.
his new review style is very good
wow! i think i definitely want one of them! short review but definitely an ace!
Nice review fella
Hey Tom, because it has the RTL8111 chip, cant you hackintosh it?
My DREAM PC....I NEED this.....hope I can get one soon......
here from notification. prefer usual blog content cos sound breathless makes me think about my breathing. still excellent overview
Love the review! Keep up the good work, please do more reviews :)
Could you do a game streaming video ? I understand the concept it's like streaming video from a pc to another. But games ? What software do you need.
Stick it inside an imac g4
That would be SICK! :D
Would actually be a nice project, the screen inside the iMac can be driven by one of these small HDMI converters pretty easily.
The question after that is, can the Cubi 2 run OS X? If it can and a broken iMac G4 can be sourced then it would definitely make for a nice little project.

Wow! Great video Tom! Where can I buy this? I really like the style of the video :)
Thats a neat little computer
Tom I hope you still have the quad G5 because it would be a big shame to get ride of it
It'd be pretty awesome if MSI lets you keep this one.
Great Video! QUALITY!! :D

Someone give this man more subs!
great video (as always)! great use case too with the streaming
i would do the same but I was GIVEN a GTX 960 4GB and I am going to build a LAN Party/HTPC with it and an i7 2600
I love these small pc's. I've got an Intel nuc laying around, I should really do something with that.
Damn! nice little machine :-D wonder what we will get in next 5 years !
Would this be able to do some basic Photoshop editing, and ocassional light video edit? (i mean cutting parts of videos, adding music, recording screen on windows, etc).
I liked the video.😀 is there anyway to connect an external gpu. Love the channel have a nice day
This kind of upgradeability plus MacOS would be perfect!
This thing looks fantastic !
It really is a great bit of kit

0:36 Dreamcast shot. Nice edition to the scenery of the video :)
wow i want it
Great video
the front usb is also a quick charging port ;)
The Face of Boe. Nice.
The question is: How well is it suited for Hackintosh?
Starting to wonder why I bought a Mac mini with all these other options around. lol
*whispers to Mac* I still love you...
Dreamcast new sub
hmm would this be any good for a plex server?
How much does it cost in Canada ?
The USB C port, could you use an external GPU?
Probably not is my best guess
ItsMyNaturalColour if it could it would be a big plus. The expandable memory option is killer on this
No, it would need a Thunderbolt bus. This is just USB.
Nope. It's a USB 3.1 Gen 1, not 2 or Thunderbolt. The whole USB spec is a fucking monstrous mess, especially the 3.1 crap.

The integrated GPU's of the last few generations of CPU's have more than enough power to output 4K. Now, gaming at 4K is a different matter.
Good story telling
tom you make 4gigs of RAM a lot more than you could ever need
But the question is: does it run mac OS?
I like the intel nuc , but this is a slightly more modern version.
hmmm. new tv cabinet :)
These would be great for a child's bedroom setup
Agreed!
Is it possible to upgrade the cpu to maybe an i3? Or whatever?
Just about to buy one to trade futures and travel the world
How can I get in India?
Why not try and make a HacMini out of it?
I'd love to but I din't think MSI would be pleased if I blew up their review sample :(
Yeah probably, not everyone is as hacky friendly as gigabyte.
I think it's more a case of it not being his to do it with. MSI let him borrow it as a review unit so he had to give it back. I'm sure he'd try and Hackintosh it up if he actually owned it.
Maybe if Tom can gain the same notoriety as Linus he'll be able to mess with stuff.
it reminds me of wii
were u running gta v on i ternal gpu ? bro
GTA V was running on my gaming PC upstairs, I was using the Cubi 2 to play the game through Steam in home streaming over the network.
why would you do a review for free?
It is funny you said it is not going to affect my electricity bill.

No Support for Windows 7 ... very bad!
Too bad the only Windows OS it supports is Windows 10Bigbrother edition.
Looks good otherwise.
Thanks for sharing.
Yes because no other OS's phone home. None at all. None.
butt-hurt much?
The other OS's don't phone home when you tell them not to. Windows 10 still does it even if you say no and it'll turn shit back on too.
+TalesOfWar don't waste your time with that MS delusional fanboy. Of course it is your time to lose, but yeah.
Been using Mac OS exclusively for about 6 years over here bud. And if you think that opting out of the phone home options truly stops them from sending data back to base, well, you are truly the delusional one.
