My jaw literally DROPPED when I saw y’all were in my city!!!! The timing truly is such a shame though, you’ll have to come back to experience the real Cincinnati when things are normal again. It’s such an incredible, vibrant, close-knit community and there are so many amazing places to see! Btw for anyone else wanting to visit, you GOTTA have LaRosas pizza and Graeter’s ice cream (any flavor with choc chunks) along with your Skyline, goetta and buckeyes. Also, true Cincinnatians eat their skyline with oyster crackers on top :)

If you venture any farther south in Kentucky, there is so much to see and do, even with Covid19. The Red River Gorge area is perfect for hiking, and the views are like no where else. While in the area, you should try Ruth Hunt's cream candy--plain and chocolate covered. There is a store in Lexington, but their factory and main store is about 30 miles east, in Mount Sterling. Ruth Hunt's also has a candy bar, the Blue Monday, which is the official candy of the Kentucky Derby.

Both of my parents grew up in Cincinnati a very long time ago, but these foods were all rocking then! I still make my mom's Cincinnati chili and people always ask for the recipe. My mom's recipe does have allspice, cinnamon, sugar, apple cider vinegar and cocoa in it, and chili powder of course. She had a recipe in her folder that my dad says was given to him by the owner of one of Cincinnati's Greek restaurants that originated the sweet chili. It's way too hard to make, so I always make my mom's simplified version. Cincinnati food is such a treasure. My aunt never made the trek from Kentucky to Virginia without a block of frozen goetta in her suitcase. Now I want some! This is really memory lane for me, I was born across the river from Cincinnati in the 1950's.

Be ready for the hills - first 9 miles felt like they were all up hill when I did it - at that point you are maybe near the viewpoint where they stopped to look out over the city. Cincy is the City of Seven Hills. The hills in this list are: Mount Adams, Walnut Hills, Mount Auburn, Vine Street Hill, College Hill, Fairmount, and Mount Harrison (known now as Price Hill).

I am filled with envy right now. I adore Cincinnati chili and can't get it where I live. I have perfected making it myself (it DOES have chocolate and cinnamon it it) but being able to buy directly from the two all stars would be heaven! I have to have onion on mine, but I'm sure it was fantastic anyway. So happy to see you two out and about. Thanks for everything that you do.

OMG, I missed you guys! I live in Bellevue, KY, ... the next town over, and home of Schneider’s Sweet Shop, but I spent the last three days at the Red River Gorge in KY. One of the most magical places on Earth and definitely worth a visit! You should go there in your RV! 😉 Even though I live in KY now, both myself and older son were born in Ohio, and we’re called Buckeye’s!

It's great you came to Cincinnati! There's alot of great things to do here when everything's open. I've always loved all the hills. We have a ton of hills but we're in a valley.
I grew up right below fairview park. We used to watch annual fireworks from our kitchen windows or fairview, Bellevue, or Eden Park. I think you would've really liked Krohn's conservatory and the Cincinnati art museum. Our city is deeply rooted in and famous for the arts.
I want to try the restaurant you went to in NKY. I love goetta! (but no ketchup) There's some great restaurants here. Two I like alot are first watch and eli's BBQ. I like the style of my mom's homemade chili better than restaurant chili, still with a little cheese and crackers. So glad you visited Findley Market. It's been around forever, but I liked it better the way it used to be.
Where was the tiny house you stayed in?

Oh yes! I love a good 5-way! While in Cincinnati you should have hit up Jungle Jim's (two locations). It's a great international market. Anyway, I also love a good buckeye as well (the candy). We actually had some this past weekend (small shop in E-town, KY). And, I just noticed someone else mentioned Jungle Jim's. They referenced the Fairfield location, which his our favorite.

I think most candy shops make some variation of the buckeyes. Where I'm from in Michigan we call them chocolate dipped peanut butter balls. I run a Christmas craft show and have two ladies who will sell about a thousand of these. They only sell them by a 3-pack for $2.
My mom always made enough chili to have some leftover so she could make chili mac the next day. Of course, it had beans and onions already cooked into it. She boiled and drained regular ole elbow macaroni, added in the heated chili. Might add another can of stewed tomatoes if needed then we topped with raw onion if wanted and lots and of cheese. mmm mmm good

Ah I remember fondly Cincinnati food. We go there for the Flying Pig Marathon and Goetta is served at the runners breakfast after the 5k and 10k races. Always had some Cincinnati chili while there. Skyline slightly more Greek spiced and Gold Star is more Middle East in flavor. Most non locals do not appreciate Cincinnati chili and that is why there are not many of their chili parlors outside of the area.

I made buckeyes the other day! We called them bulls eyes at school (in NZ). The filling is literally butter, peanut butter and icing sugar! You should totally do your next cooking show to make those!

I lived in a town one hour exactly from Cincinnati ,Ohio, Indianapolis, IN and Franklin KY. May I suggest when you can go to the creation museum and ark encounter in Kentucky when things open up with your new old rv. Anyways I lived in Greensburg, IN. You also need to go to Jungle Jims in Cincinnati because it is a foodies dream grocery store. Give yourself all day to check it out. It is almost a theme park. Cincinnati chili is awesome. We would get it all the time when we went to indy
