- Mindy Kaling ("The Mindy Project", "The Office") and Emma Thompson ("Love Actually", "Nanny McPhee") from the new movie "Late Night" sit down to give advice for other women, from how to deal with a male-dominated workspace to how to best navigate a breakup...and what type of shellfish to hide in the curtain rods if the breakup wasn't your idea.

That curtain rod tip is one of the most savage things I've ever heard in my life holy shit Emma
You can also unscrew light switch plates and put dead fish in the walls. #collegepranks
Yes, yes I'm going to use this!
you can also open up teddy bear, put mince meat inside and re-stitch the bear, and give it to people you hate.
Or “sheep-shift” the bed…
@@HafezZahruddinGardenandKitchen the bear is easy to throw out tho :)
I love how mutually respective they are of each other. Such a lovely warm chemistry
Yes, they seemed very respectful of each other and to get along well apart from when Mindy joked about Emma's relationship with Kenneth Branagh (as that relationship famously ended very badly).
frolickinglions I actually think she meant Emma’s current husband (who was in Sense and Sensibility)
Rebecca Elliott mutually respectful not respective...
Agreed
Absolutely. The way Emma looks at Mindy and how she puts her hand on her shoulder.
"However good you are, not everything you do will be good." Dame Emma Thompson
"Just... lie."
Life advise from Emma Thompson. I admire this woman more and more.
I love the way they actively listen when the other person is speaking. It shows mutual respect & the willingness to learn from each other. Didn't expect any less from these great women!
@mysterychemistry There are different types of people in a dialogue, not everyone do the same thing.
@mysterychemistry That's true. But you know, the world these days is so dark and negative that these small actions like complimenting people when they do something right, even for really trivial things, really makes me feel more optimistic :( So I'm sorry if that bothers you.

Such smart compassionate genius queens. Mindy calling Emma out on her “office” romances was hilarious 😂
8:31 Thank you, Dame Thompson, for the curtain rods and prawn advice! 🤗
I hope she did this to Kenneth.
I heard this ages ago with bedposts. Such a nefarious prank.
Hahahahaha thanks Dame E🤣
"Love, romantic love, is generally a projection of the impossible on the other person".
I don't think I was ready for that ...
Thats Freud, yeah.
Is an Ideal, thats what she meant.
@@lauralunaazul I'm pretty sure Dame Emma wouldn't mean to quote that man... possibly ever.
@@Meme-go9ts Freud? 😂😂

Dame Emma Thompson's got some bona fide revenge techniques daamn
That was brilliant!
We should all worship Queen Emma. She is a global treasure. 👑👑
Anish Gole No we Should worship God not a human being.
@@davids5980 it's called exaggeration. Do you understand the concept of hyperbole?
@@davids5980 not everyone believe on god and they were exaggerating

"Absolutely trust your instincts. They are your sword and your shield, and they will never let you down." Emma Thompson
She's so sassy when she talks about Kenneth at 4:07 I love it :))) What a powerful queen xx
Charlotte Ruby not to mention Emma and Greg Wise being roommates 😉😆
@@marielavalon Exactly what I was thinking - coulda been worse than ending up with Willoughby ;]
It crushed me when it happened. They were my Shakespearen love idols. I couldn't ever watch that version of Frankenstein again. And every time I see Kenneth in anything my lip just involuntarily sneers.
“ you have to be self reliant” - that got me
She's right though. Self-reliance is important. I wish I'd known that earlier.
I've taught this to my daughter! I told her to not depend on others in order to get by in life. For things like...money, happiness, success and security. If you depend on someone 100% for things like this.....you WILL get disappointed!! I'm raising her to be a strong, independent, and hard working young woman!! You create your own happiness!!
toxic friendships are never talked about in a healthy way! Love this video for addressing it in such a thoughtful way!
Agreed! We only ever hear about Toxic Lovers...but it is much more common to have a Friendship turn sour.
The women have good advice. It is better to just slowly stop hanging out with the friend as much than a huge Screaming Match!
I heard that story about the prawns in the curtain rod. Supposedly it was done by a woman divorcing a guy who took up with a "newer model". He kept the house in the settlement. When they couldn't get rid of the smell, they put the house up for sale and the ex-wife bought it back for much less than it was worth. Not endorsing this action at all. It might be an urban legend.
I feel like this shouldn’t be just advice to women but advice to everybody. Their words are brilliant.
Emma Thompson is a GIFT that we don't deserve...
I turned 21 yesterday and this was actually one of the most valuable birthday presents I received, I kind of needed to hear some of these things. Thank you Mindy and Emma for the wise words 💗
Girl, I'm 34 and still need these life lessons... 🤣
Has Emma ever written a book? Her advice is incredible and I now want her with me in every situation so she can help me through it. what a wonder!
3:50 is MEME/Gif- worthy!
Loved how Mindy brought up Kenneth and Greg up- found an opportunity and grabbed it!🤣
All praise Dame Emma Thompson 🙌🏼🙌🏼
These two are amazing. Hope they work together again!
I cannot believe I found this on the internet. Inspiring! Can we please have more women who take their intelligence, talent and integrity seriously in the Entertainment Industry!!!!
The toxic friendship thing really hit me, I did exactly what Mindy said, I drifted away, but I still always think about my good friend and the amazing times we had....the good ones.
I also did that, and there are times I wonder if what I did, which was tantamount to "ghosting", was the right way to end that friendship. However, I suppose "cold silence" would be more bearable than an emotional confrontation.
Uh someone pls explain to me why Emma Thompson wasn't cast as Mary Poppins ever
I think she did Nanny McPhee at a time when no one thought of remaking Mary Poppins..so it's like confusing a bit if she ever were to be cast as Mary Poppins any time later I guess.. sad ikr 💔💔
@@reemahmed2104 she even played Mary Poppin's author in Saving Mr. Bank's. But I've always wanted her to play Mary Poppins so bad. Emily Blunt is amazing and she did a great job, but this woman is other-worldly.
@@srestha Yasss I forgot about that she was extraordinary that's one thing I remember vividly about that movie although I've seen it a long time ago ❤❤ yeah I hear you she's would've been amazing.. thanks for bringing up this thought to me 😂🙏❤
@@reemahmed2104 gosh I love Emma so much. It makes me so sad that she's getting old. The world would be such a depressing place without her in it. :"(
Well try not to think about it this way dear. At least she'll leave behind so much great works of art to remember her with ❤
And now she looks way better than me and I'm only 18 so..😂😂💔
Beautiful ladies. Beautiful words ♥️❤️💖
This was great! I love when celebrities actually answer the questions genuinely .. and not just gloss over them and make a joke of it.
Yes!!!! Your instincts are your sword and your shield
As someone who has stopped writing and now just trying to get back into it, I'm so glad they answered that question!
Can we have a million more interviews like this please?
A little revenge there at the end! I loved this. The best advice I ever received was when I was in my 20's and I was talking to an older woman about aging or something and she said essentially, don't fight the changes as you get older but accept them and keep on going.
Lovely advice for not just women, but for men too... Being a gay man, some of those advice resonates a lot with me...
Though, what Mindy said about women needing to make their work speak for themselves, is true, but it also puts undue emphasis on women to be meritorious, when men who are lame just become more successful! Unfair world!
As women (and queer people -- I am one), when we get into positions of power, we must change these spaces by giving opportunities and space to other hard-working deserving people who have been overlooked. 💗 In the meantime, we have to keep fighting to succeed, for ourselves and our communities. We got this.
The best advice from Dame Emma is Be self reliant... and putting prawns into a curtain rod! 😁
I love the chemistry and mutual respect between these two wonderful women! I've recently absolutely fell in love with Dame Emma, she is truly a gem and her words here are so beautiful and wise and I could listen to her for hours and hours and just never get bored! She is the kind of person you want to have drink with and just talk about life! wish to be like her in the future❤
I've said it once and I'll say it again: Emma Thompson is an inspirational badass
I need an Emma Thompson in my life like every single day
Love how they gave genuine and helpful advice. 😊 Talented ladies.
"Always laugh in the face of disaster " super advice for the times.
This was genuinely great advice, all of it. Thank you!
Mindy Kaling is just THE BEST! 👑
God, I love these women.
I loved every bit of advice given in this video . I'd watch Mendy and Emma everyday, amazing women, classy and smart❤
Listen to Emma. Be yourself.
Trust yourself. Allow others to get to know the real you.
To the own Self be true.
(Plus, everyone wants to be confident, be confident and others naturally follow. )
I must make a note of that raw prawn/ curtain rod tip. Excellent. I adore Emma T.
I LOVE EMMA THOMPSON TO PIECES, SHE'S SO DAMN GREAT!!
I wish when I become her age, I'd be half as funny, intelligent, sassy and positive as her..
I LOVE THIS! MORE OF THESE PLEASE!💕
Emma Thompson's description of love at 0.52 is one of the best I have ever heard. 😏
Excellent advice from both of you wonderful people. Especially the one about ending friendships, probably because it happened to me. Thank goodness I did what you advised as well as realized what you said Emma, friendships are often not forever.
Ghosting - since before the internet.
wow this was all such great advice i did not expect to learn so much within the span of 9 minutes
This was fantastic in every way!
This is a delight. Wondering session. Useful advice. I love it.
Absolutely loved the question, more of this please!
Definitely not cookie cutter advice, they are keepin it real!
Watching this earlier made my rough morning much better ❤️
I absolutely love this helped me soo much👏🏽😱😭😍😍

I love the bit about the curtain rod 😂 I wouldn’t want to cross her!
I wish there was a series like this with these two
emma thompson needs to be a life coach.. or just a phone a friend
Always laugh in the face of disaster , I love this
This is genuinely good.
I know these were advice for women but I like that they were quite general so all people could resonate with a lot of em too
00:24 It sounded like Emma said " huge little cup "
Thanks to subtitles ! 🤣🤣🤣
We need a series of this - wise, successful women giving awesome advice 💯
I wish I could hang-out with these women... 💕
Love the videos with them! And the movie is great too :)
Well said! Thank you!
Find someone made you so happy and proud like Mindy was when Emma Thompson was talking about her
I’m just going to watch this video anytime I have a problem because I’m basically guaranteed afterwards that I will feel better.
This advice is precious and everyone needs it☄
This is such a great video ♥️
Love Mindy and her advice! Very talented woman whose figured how to channelise her creativity.Shes an inspiration to we Indian girls 🙏🏽
I scrolled past this expecting it to be some American hyped up "who can be the loudest and funniest" clip, but was pleasantly surprised when I gave it a chance. Good words, thank you ☮️
Dame that was great to watch!
This is a great video!!! Love Mindy ❤❤
7:24 should not have made me laugh that hard lol
I love Emma so much! But it's always been a bit weird to me that she's routinely introduced as a "two-time Oscar winner" without mention of the relevant fact that she's literally the only person in the history of film to win Oscars for both screenwriting AND acting.
And speaking of that acting Oscar... Howards End is a gorgeous film adaptation of a gorgeous novel. But lovely as it, and everyone involved, is, Emma's performance really is transcendent. And that transcendence is only magnified by interviews like this, which reveal how very dissimilar she is from her Oscar-winning portrayal of Miss Schlegel.
She's just that good.
It must be wonderful loving an actress who gives One performance in such a long career.
I could listen to them ALL day!
I truly loved this
Love these two lovely strong intelligent women!
Oh, man! That advice is not just for women! That was fun and helpful.
Fantastic duo. Hope to see them doing stuff together in the future :D
That was some good advice! :D
this is actually such fantastic advice wow
That last advice killed me. I will do that, so subtle, so nasty yet so clever.
I LOVE MINDY SO MUCH!!❤️❤️
They are very inspirational!😍💙👍👏
“Arson” 😂😂 and that curtain rods idea is going into my memory bank. Love it lol
"As a teenager in 2019, how do I not succumb to peer pressure but also not come off as lame?"
Emma: "That's like saying how do you live." lol!
A word of advice from a random internet stranger: ignore it all. You've spent the last 18/19 years of your life trying to fit in, because public school and high school reject the different. Everybody is expected to arrive at the same destination, so you have to have the same grades, the same hobbies and interests, the same direction in mind. But once you get to graduation, you're going to find that you don't have to fit in, anymore. You don't have to abide by what other people find "cool" or do what teachers and parents expect of you. And you're going to find a whole gaggle of other people out there who are just as hungry to get out there and be exactly who they always wanted to be, but just felt like they never could be.
Maybe you're into sports and that was always frowned upon. Maybe your thing is math, but it was always considered too nerdy to keep friends. Maybe you're a homebody, and you have no desire to take part in parties and organized social events. Maybe you enjoy working late hours because you feel a sense of accomplishment. Maybe you prefer video games and cosplay, or you want to get into music and theatre, or just read and write all the time, or whatever. Nobody can tell you what's cool, or place their own expectations on you. You are always going to find other people who have things in common with you, if you go out looking for them and if you reach out to them. So find what you love, get involved with the things that give you joy, and forget about what other people think about you, because there's no sense in pleasing everybody else if it's making you feel miserable. True friends will stand by you for who you are, and those are the kinds of people who would never pressure you into doing something you aren't comfortable with.
Great advice.
Emma Thompson...What a queen 💖
This is just helpful in general.

The prawn + curtain rod thing is really similar to the dung hidden in a mattress thing that Sansa suggests in GOT!

Part of me is looking forward to getting older so I can stop giving a damn, like Emma and my late nana
Friendship tip really made ne feel okay
